News Board Friction?

I'm not sure how much weight to put on Barrett's TFS bit last night. Supposedly there is friction between board members over football vs corporate priorities.

There'll always be differences of opinion between directors. No two people agree about everything. Of course there will be different attitudes between how much we spend on the football department and running the place as a business. Is it that big a problem? We'll see in the next annual report.

The club's purpose is to win premierships, whereas every director's duty is to run the club like a business. It's the sporting club/corporation dichotomy writ small.

What concerns me is internal debate becoming public. That's something we haven't had the displeasure to see since the Smorgon days, and I don't want to see it back.

Probably just a bored Carlton-hating journo shaking the tree to see if anything falls out. Too useless to actually find a real story worth reporting.

Where there is smoke, there is fire.

I'm not sure what purpose it serves for DB to make this up entirely - I think he would have heard the ramblings of one particular board member and gone with it.

Just like how Barrett got out of a 2 minute interview with Lakes manager that he is a certainty to leave at years end, like Lake's manager said last night there is no certainty it football and anything can happen. I'd say its a nothing story and we can just move along and enjoy the good news of Murphy re-signing and Kruezer selected for Sundays game.

Yeah, I loved that massive extrapolation. It must be a slow news week. Well, it must be once you've already flogged TFS (and I don't mean The Footy Show) to death elsewhere.

So Barrett , reckons members of the board (meaning Jeanie) want to cut Football Department Spending just as the team is coming good, even though Dick completely ignored our debt, and put all his dough into the Football Department :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

But Barrett is always right. It hurts me so much every time Gibbs runs out in his Gold Coast Suns jumper.

An alternate, and likely more realistic, conclusion to draw from the rumour and innuendo coming out of the club would be that they want to become more profitable and improve the business ledger.

Damo, needing his weekly exclusives for The Footy Show, has decided this means there is board upheaval and tension.

Anyone who is NOT employed to drum up exclusives for a weekly timeslot would conclude... business people want big business football club to run more like a business.

There's no firetrucking way the Blues cut footy department spending whilst we're on the up and up.

sack [insert board member here] immediately!

Why is it whenever there's a negative rumour we're all so quick to dismiss it?
usually depends on the source. but its easy to dismiss something we dont like than worry about it.

i hope its wrong but time will tell

Not sure what to make of the comments regarding wanting to run Carlton more as a business than a club. Barrett said the group in the board wanted less money going towards the footy dept.

I'd hate to rob Peter to pay Paul...seems a change is gonna come (great song btw)

If the Board start there little in-bred power games and affecting our on-field performances in any way after all this time...:mad:

In other news, I have been in discussions with ODN the past few weeks and let me just say it looks more and more likely I will remain at Carlton Big Footy for the rest of my career. Pretty happy. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

What did we do to deserve this?? :p

Barrett is right that there is some disagreement at board level, but not to the extent that he described and not the issue that he was blabbering on about. All has been resolved and everyone is content again.

I heard that there were differences at moderator level about how much we're spending on the bilious misanthrope department.

This. It's already been spoken about here. In as great a length as it deserves to be.

Carlton is NOT going to cut Football Department spending. League wide everyone knows that almost the ONLY way to having on field success is through FD spending. No one on the board is naive enough to think of it in that way.

Damo's a twerp.

^ As far as I can tell so far MS3 has good sources and is usually on the money so I'm pretty happy with this.
