Bollinger>Siddle

Spare me.

Siddle seems like an awesome bloke, but bowls pies once or twice an over. AN OVER. Not per 10 overs. England'll be laughing. I'd back Doug every day of the week.

hmmm big call. i like siddle but the fact is his international performances haven't been great at all. has struggled to replicate what he has done for victoria mainly because he can't swing the ball.

first test bowling line up of johnson, hilfenhaus, siddle, doherty..... wonder what the chances are of none of them starting the last test. hilf should (but even he is no certainty) but the rest are all under a fair bit of pressure (or should be but who knows at the moment :()....

Not really, it's not like Siddle is picking himself in the side. Once we're off i'll be backing Siddle to the hilt just the same as the other 10 blokes that take the field.

I have issues however with the reasoning behind his selection. You cant tell me Doug has lost his match fitness in 6 weeks. He's been killing it for the past 12 months, bowling big and strong and more importantly taking wickets. A supposed unfit doug also took 3/25 in his first innings back post injury.

Edit - Was meant in response to The 747 Whoops

Play Dougie in Brisbane and you run the risk of having him at 75% for the whole series.

Rest Dougie and it gives him extra couple of weeks to get himself right and set to go in Adelaide.

The selectors might cop a lot of shit but there is no way they would ignore Bollinger if he was capable of playing all 5 tests in a row at a decent fitness level.

Mate he's gone straight back to play with NSW in sheffield shield. If he wasnt fit enough he'd be rested full stop.

Was terrible against SA here, especially the first 2 tests, until the series was over, will admit he and Johnson got it together for 2 Tests in SA, gave us false hope when they were both absolute crap in the Ashes where the Poms fed off free "4-balls".

Remember SA chased down 414 for 4 wickets in Perth, then the last 3 wickets put on 270 in the first innings at the MCG when we were well on top? Hate to say it, that's the bowlers.

Admittedly Siddle bowled crap @ Perth, however there were others worse that innings, and only Mitch Johnson bowled well. He subsequently bowled very well in Melbourne and Sydney and took that form with him to South Africa.

After a sluggish start, I believe he had a good ashes series in 2009.

I Think Doug the rug and Ryan Harris are ahead of Sids if fully fit, but ignore him at your peril. Will see plenty of this in the coming weeks.

Sick 'em, Sids!!

He seems like an annoying Aussie bogan, whether that is a good or a bad bloke I'm not sure.

Anybody that gets a massive southern cross tattooed on their back for being Australian...ah I'm not going to even bother the bloke comes across as dumb as dogshit and it is transferred to his ability to bowl well often, not just once in a while.

I agree...Poms would much rather face a quickish rightarmer who does squat with the ball, than a sharp left armer who swings it ...surely Bollinger would be the first bowler picked . Especially at the gabba !

Bollinger hasn't consistently swung the ball for about two years, if anything he now just pushed the ball across right-handers. All that being said, I thought Siddle or Bollinger was a 50/50 call

A lack of game time has cost Doug Bollinger his spot for the first Ashes Test despite him being Australia's most potent bowler of the past 12 months. Peter Siddle won the final place in the XI on his pre-injury reputation, but the same set of guidelines did not apply to Bollinger.
Bollinger picked up 47 wickets at 22.02 in his past 10 matches but the numbers were not enough to regain his position after hurting his stomach in the first Test in India. While Siddle, who has appeared in 17 Tests, has completed a solid workout in the domestic and limited-overs sides, Bollinger was limited to one four-day fixture for New South Wales.
If we need evidence of selectors playing favourites, here it is. The pre-injury reputation of 60 odd wickets at 31.5.

England will be able to sit back and just hit the bad balls for four all test match.

What an absolute disgrace. If they felt Dougy was underdone..then play the form bowler in the Sheffield Shield- TRENT COPELAND!

I hope Siddle goes at 0/200 so we can all laugh at Ponting again!

you know something is up whem all the victorians are up in arms about a victorian being selected in front of a new south welshman ;)

This team also seems like a replay of 2006 where we brought back the 05 ashes losing crew for a chance at redemption.

Problem was in 06 the guys getting second chances were proven greats, this is basically the team that couldn't get steyn out at the G, couldn't close things out at cardiff and got humiliated in 08 in india not to mention the same team that implodes in the second innings on a regular basis.

It's hard to believe that the only change from our oval humiliation is going to be clark out for a SLA with a first class average of 50.

if we were pakistan people would start accusing us of trying to throw the series, going in with a team of obvious duds and has beens. dumb selection.

hope he plays out of his skin. he's gonna have to cos what he generally serves up is rank. if the poms rip through us on a greentop then sids and mj go for 5 an over while they pile on 4-500 the calls for generational change are going to become deafening.
