Essndon v Geelong two of last years finalists drew only 22,000

15th v 16th drew over 30,000.

Who is more popular?

i didnt go cause we lost last week. anyway my mum and dad dont let me out of the house after dark.

I suppose the fact that Essendon lost by 79 points the week before, making it virtually impossible for them to make the pre-seaosn finals (hence making the contest against Geelong meaningless) had nothing to do with the turn-out.

Geelong lost the week before too as a matter of fact.

I wasn't going to bother responding to the trolls, but I will to you. Don't you think that the fact it was played in Canberra might have something to do with the low attendances, rather than them losing the week before.

Most of the bomber supporters like to be on winners. That is why the Saints are being inundated by new members!!!

You knob. That crowd of 22,000, was one of the biggest non-Grand Final Ansett Cup crowds of all time. Obviously, any team which is losing, is going to get less crowds than when they are winning. Any team. But Essendon stll got a very good crowd in a pre season match, even though the match was essentialy meaningless, since they couldn't make the semi-finals. Remember, Essendon played in front of one million spectators in 1997, and we finished 14th!

Because if not even 500 000 different people went to the footy as a total last year.I doubt 1 million went just to watch Essendon.

The total attendance for AFL matches last season was in the order of around 6 million.

eer you think 6 million different people went to watch the AFL.

I dont think so
Try less than half a million
Dont forget people go more than once
Many going up to 18 times.
Or all the members going at least 11.

I stand corrected.
2.5 million people went to the footy one or more times in 99.So 2000 was probally more than that.Less because it was all over the media that numbers where down last year,

Then again in 98 it was 1.9 million less.

Still stands to say
there is no way 1 million people went to essendon games in 94.

Sandie has a membership at the Bombers, most bomber people here only have a local cheap membership but sandie apart from last year has full essendon membership, cant understand why, cause she only gets to 1 or 2 games in melb.

Yes 6 million people attended AFL matches in the 2000 season. Obvously it wasn't the 6 million "different" people. Nonetheless, that figure of 6 million stands as that many people passed through the gates.
