Couldnt find the link just yet, but in the Adelaide Advertiser on saturday an article is written by Michelangelo Rucci, possibly SA's most credible football journalist titled 'Bombers make play for Gorringe'

Part of the article reads as:

'Essendon has upset the running order for next months AFL national draft by yesterday making a major sales pitch to Norwood ruckman Daniel Gorringe rather than a midfielder. Gorringe, considered the fourth best draft candidate in the years draft pool, yesterday met Bombers recruiting manager Adrian Dodoro and senior recruiting co-ordinator Merv Keane at Glenelg while ruckmen dominated the news in AFL's trade week.

Essendons keen interest in Gorringe, 18, contradicts the pre-draft speculation that the bombers would use their pick 8 on a midfielder such as Woodville West Torrens candidate Jared Polec.

'Well draft the best player at no.8' said Dodoro last night. 'That could be the best ruckman or the best midfielder. And Daniel is in strong consideration'.

There is also a picture of this meeting.

What does everybody think about this considering we are desperate for a classy midfielder. I believe it is unlikely that Gorringe will slip to 8 anyway.

Doesnt seem as if this has been brought to anybodys attention yet :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Dodoro keeps insisting that we need more talls...

Despite having the hopes of all Bomber supporters resting on his shoulders, he took time out from his busy schedule to talk exclusively to Bomber TV about the past few drafts and what Bomber fans can expect next month.

"We will pick the best player available. We could do with a great ruckman, a great midfielder and a great forward but every club can," Dodoro said.

"People say we need midfielders but they tend to forget that last year we drafted a lot of midfielders like Jetta, Davey, Reimers and Houli."

Pretty sure it was raised in the other thread, though I don't believe any quotes from the article were given.

I don't neccesarily read too much into it as Dodoro and Keane have probably had sitdowns with many potential draftees to assess their character etc.

If he slips to 8 (which seems unlikely anyway) I wouldn't be upset if we went best available and picked him. From memory he was pretty impressive in the U18 champs game that was on fox sports. But anyway, take what these recruiting guys say with a grain of salt. Like it's been mentioned we would have done the same with every other kid in the top 20 at least I would have thought and we're not going to give away our plans for a draft that is still a month away. A lot can change from now and then anyway.

I would also definately prefer we take a mid... but then again decent young ruckmen are hard to find and we could always find a gem of a midfielder later in the draft or even through the rookie system...

There are also midfielders that are rated top 5 prospects. Make no mistake the draft pool will be thin at pick 30 with all the 17 year olds taken out. I would rather get an A grade midfielder than a ruckman. We can always rookie list a delisted ruck.

Robert Campbell... Hawk premiership player...will probably be available...

WC Tony Notte can also pinch hit ruck as well and we are rumoured to be very keen on him...

I hope its a midfielder with the way the new rule has been brought in, i dont think ruckmen will be that important. Will probably also not play next year even if we were to lose Hille or Ryder so his develepment wouldnt be ideal.

Well we do have a good number of young midfielders but with the question marks over Myers, Jetta, Reimers and the lack of talent in our list of older midfielders, a midfielder should still be our priority.
