Boomer Has Signed With North

A friend of mine was there today - VERY happy place, signed up Harvey ,Mazda and iPrimus.

Don't know length of Boomer's contract so there will be some surprises left for tomorrow... but the major sponsors are on board for another 3 years.

Especially because Mazda only really signed up because North were moving to Sydney.

They just said on Ch 10 sport that Boomer and North have agreed to the terms of the new contract and he will sign tomorrow.

Fantastic news! The players talk about the season being too long, but the off season is waaay too long for fans. I couldn`t get into the cricket last year.

With Boomer signing and the sponsors keeping the faith, congrats should go to the Doc and admin. We`re in a better position than this time last year.

That's a huge call. Hope he can become one of the better mid sized players in the comp. But for now I think Voss, Hird & Buckley might have some more serious claims as being the best medium sized player in the AFL.

He wouldn't be my first choice for a few reasons.

There is alot to be said for a physically imposing player being captain. Someone that can do all the hard stuff and hurt bodies when the team needs it to be done. Running out of the race behind Wayne Carey would make any footballer bleed for the club. Ability aside, he was the type of player you want leading a group.

No slight on Boomer at all, but I don't think he has that. I would also love the next North skipper to me really media savvy, and have some real skill in front of a camera. The best captains in the league have this ability. Not sure if Brent does.

Simmo is the best suited IMO. Not flashy, but hard as nails, does the inspirational and can mix it in front of a camera. He is very North Melbourne is Simmo. Not handed anything on a platter, worked hard for a spot, but has become great because has an amazing will to succeed.

It's official now and a 3 yr contract. Luckily he hasn't been thrown the captaincy (yet) as a sweetener.

The Kangaroos have re-signed key onballer/forward Brent Harvey for the next three years, which will see him remain with the club until the end of 2006.

The 25-year-old said he it was ‘pretty exciting’ to stay with the stay and that he never wanted to leave the Kangaroos, as he wants the bulk of the group to ‘stick together’.


“It was pretty easy in the end. I didn’t speak to any other club,” Harvey said at Arden Street on Friday.

Harvey has played 150 games for the club since making his debut in 1996

I actually agree that Simmo should be the next captain for all the reasons pointed above. True leader.

However i was mearly pointing out that, to 'hope' Harvey doesn't get the job, is perhaps a slight on the most talented player on the list IMO.

Too numerous to mention! I believe it's over 20 players but we were probably concentrating on getting Boomer signed before starting on the others because he was the most important, and from there we'd be able to work out how much we could offer the others.

My point was that I hope it's not the case of Harvey saying I will stay if you make me captain; or the club saying look Brent we can't match Carltons offer but we will guarantee that you will be made the next captain.
I just don't like those types of deals and it doesn't sit well with me as I believe being the captain of North Melbourne is a great honour and not something to be taken so lightly.

This is news to me. He is a very good player at times but to say he is our best player is going a bit far. Surely Simpson is far and away North's best and most consistant player. And for many years Stevo was our second best player only to the greatest player of all time in Carey. I would also think that Colbert and Petrie are of more value to our team then Harvey.
Not saying they are better but if I had to choose one player to go without between Colbert, Petrie, Simpson or Harvey I would go without Harvey.
