Arsenal
1 WB Adam Cooney West Adelaide
Never in doubt. Clearly the best available

2 CARL Kepler Bradley West Perth
Pagan takes a raw kid on potential to supplement his trading for the experienced. Can offer massive mis-matches once he develops

3 MELB Colin Sylvia Bendigo
Dees need a hard nut that's ready straight away. Colin Sylvia, come on down.

4 WB Fergus Watts Sandringham
Dogs showed last year they weren't afraid to take a raw tall at #4, this year they do it again to provide fans with tantalising thoughts of a forward line spearheaded by Walsh & Watts

5 MELB Andrew Walker Bendigo
Touch and go with Tenace, but they opt for the bloke with greater aerobic ability in order for them to gain a "run-all day," more consistent midfielder.

6 ESS Kane Tenace Murray
Simply the best inside midfielder available. Pace to burn and smart around the stoppages.

7 GEEL Troy Chaplin Nth Ballarat
Shellshock is in desperate need of a versatile KPP. Chaplin is the man.

8 STK Raphael Clarke St Mary's Brother of Xavier provides another touch of class to this raw Saints team. Deceptively taller than most think.

9 NORTH Brock McLean Calder Laidley will love this man's grunt.

10 FREO Farren Ray Peel Thunder After slipping further than expected, Freo take the local boy with no hesitation

11 WCE Michael Johnson Perth
A prospective replacement for the one and only Glen Jakovich. Can also play forward

12 FREO Jacob Surjan South Fremantle
Freo continue the search for midfielders. Surjan has been compared to Simon Black.

13 ESS Ricky Dyson Northern
Dons take a punt in a quality young tall being available with #28, in order to get the clone of Adam Ramanauskas

14 ADEL Brent Hall South Fremantle
Best ruckman going around. Adelaide is his destination.

15 PORT Will Gayfer Murray
The old-fashioned CHB that Port are lacking. Likes a contest, strong, and can also kick goals.

16 SYD Ryley Dunn Murray
A steal. Theoretically a Top 10 player, but needs for big men see him slip into the harbour city. Could replace Cresswell. Downside of Dunn is that he is more of a flanker at the moment, needs to learn the midfield.

17 COLL David Mundy Murray
Athletic key backman who will work with Cloke in the years to come.

18 BRIS Bill Morrison Tassie
Injuries see his price fall, and the Lions need a bloke to sit in Lynchie's square.

19 FREO Matthew Moody South Fremantle
After a massive 2002, Moody's 2003 form sees him slip from a potential Top 5 spot. Freo go for yet another local boy, and yet another midfielder who is a damaging goalkicker

20 WCE Callum Burgess West Perth
WCE get their wish to shield this boy from the rest. Bargain at #20. Team mate of Kepler Bradley at West Perth.

21 RICH Llane Spaanderman East Perth
At 199cm and 100kg, Spaanderman will slot into the Tigers line-up without them having to worry if he is physically ready.

22 GEEL Daniel McConnell Eastern
Another versatile KPP for the Cats. McConnell will take a while to come on, being only just eligble in terms of age. Most likely to be moulded as a backman. Has excellent endurance.

23 BRIS Chris Stewart Northern
Could be anything. Most raw talent of any of the talls. I have experienced first hand what this bloke does to his opponents, and let me tell you there is only one way to describe it: murder.

24 NORTH Jay Nash Central Districts
A similar fit to Jess Sinclair, although with greater finishing skills. Probably more of a midfielder. Very good kick.

25 HAW David Trotter Calder
Played most of his footy with Assumption College. Very good football brain. Extremely versatile.

26 WCE Chad Jones Claremont
Athletic tall defender who can also play forward. Reasonably paced for his size. Will take a long time to come on with his 194cm frame weighing in at only 79kg

27 FREO Tom Logan Darwin
From what I've seen this guy is a bit like Justin Blumfield - a midfielder who can play tall or small. Likes a goal.

28 ESS Ryan Murphy Gippsland
A relatively high possession getter for a bloke who stands at 192cm. Takes a strong mark both on his own and in the contested situation. Will be groomed to replace Dustin Fletcher.

29 SYD Ben Clifton Calder
This guy is a difficult one in gauging where he is going to go. Sydney really need a defender but with a bit of luck Clifton will come on as a versatile bloke who can take the 2nd/3rd best forward

30 PORT Josh Willoughby Glenelg
The best available. Port love their local boys.

31 ADEL Andrew Ericksen Sandringham
Drops to #31 after teams above look for KPP. Ericksen is purely a ruckman. National Carnival didn't see him perform at his best. At 204cm he is just what Ayres needs to bolster the ruck with Hall.

32 COLL Heath Shaw (F/S) Northern
A dubious father-son selection. Many doubt he would be drafted at all had the Pies not taken him.

33 BRIS Jake Furfaro Mt Gravatt
Lions invest in some home grown talent. Dashing defender who could step up to senior footy quickly

34 PORT Brad Symes Central Districts
Stock has risen of late. Was voted MVP for SA in the carnvial. Will perhaps fill the void left by Stevens in the long-term along with Salopek.

35 COLL Tom Mentiplay Sandringham
Judkins reads his name out on a desperate need for a ruckman. This bloke si OK though. A former rower, so his aerobic capacity and stroke volume will be 1st class. Reasonably strong in comparison to someone like Ericksen.

36 MELB Chris Johnson (F/S) WA
Father son rule. Know SFA about him.

37 RICH Tom Roach (F/S)
Son of Michael

38 GEEL Mark Blake (F/S)
Never in doubt to be taken under the father-son rule.

39 PORT Tim Schmidt West Adelaide
A tough in and under midfielder. Not expected to go this early, but Port are desperate to get a decent inside midfielder who is hard at it. Good skills.

40 NORTH Ben Cosgriff Murray
Yet another Bushranger gets a crack at AFL footy. His aggression and toughness is something that is needed with the imminent retirements of Archer and co.

41 HAW Joel Campbell Alice Springs
With a couple of midfielders departing, the Hawks go for a bloke who runs the lines well and is good under pressure. More of an outside player, but not one you would put in the 'passenger' basket.

42 GEEL Beau Waters West Adelaide
Had an excellent carnival, playing mainly across half-back which saw him make All-Australian. Has experienced senior footy. Reasonable mark for his size.

43 FREO Brett Peake (F/S)
Freo , like many other clubs, show their interest in keeping family ties.

44 ESS Rowan Bonson Northern Territory
The Sheedy experiment. Has huge internal wraps from blokes involved with NT footy, but clubs will be wary due to the fact he is reluctant to leave home. A deceptively tall player, Bonson is (like all of them) an Aboriginal player who has an uncanny knack of controlling the ball.

45 SYD Michael Pettigrew West Perth
Brilliant performer at the Draft Camp, so if he lasts till #45 consider it a surprise. One of the many versatile KPP this year, so he could easily get to Sydney with this pick. Extremely agile.

46 PORT Matthew Spencer Swan Districts
A true CHF. Will do his apprenticeship under one of the best - Warren Tredrea. Similar player also. Could take time to develop.

47 SYD Jed Adcock North Ballarat
Running type who mainly plays in the back half. Could be used as a link man through the middle. Good anticipation and defensive skills are up there with the best.

48 COLL Brayden Shaw (F/S) Northern
Collingwood would be rapt getting the better Shaw for a 3rd round. Would have gone first round had he not been eligble for father-son.

49 BRIS Sam Butler Central Districts
Had a quiet National Championships. Does all the right things - gets to the ball and keeps his feet. Has a low centre of gravity.

50 WB Josh Krueger Glenelg
Listed as a ruckman for the draft camp, but in reality not big enough. His strong contested marking and big body could see the Dogs take him as a potential CHB.

51 HAW Luke Herrington Dandenong
Fits in nicely at Hawthorn. Flashy, goalkicking forward who is very small but super quick on the lead. Could be one of those blokes who can just 'turn it on.'

52 MELB Adam Bentick Calder
In and under midfielder to compliment the addition of Sylvia. Very good deal to take him at #52.

53 RICH Ronnie Davis Calder
Reasonably big defender who will run all day off half back. Can damage opponents who don't pay him respect and may well be the man who Richmond take to move the ball quicker than that slow rate of what they do now.

54 GEEL Alex Gilmour Tassie
A bits and pieces man who is one of the Apple Isle's best. Thrives on a contest.

55 STK Craig Callaghan St Kilda
Gets re-drafted as promised

56 NORTH Aaron Davey Port Melbourne
A one-trick pony, but by jingoes it's a good trick - speed. Quickest bloke I've seen on a footy field.

57 HAW Julian Rowe Oakleigh
Seems a little soft at times, doesn't like it hard, but can take a good mark in space. Good penetration with the kick.

58 WCE Dean Chester North Ballarat
Nuggety midfielder who knows where the goals are. Eagles could do with his hardness to protect the ball carrier as well as getting the pill off the bottom of the pack.

59 FREO Jason Whitehead Woodville W-Torrens
A project player. Will take his time, but showed promise sharing the ruck duties for SA in the carnival.

60 CARL Sam Pleming Gippsland
Strong contested mark from a guy who spends most of his time up forward. Could hold down a KP. Can also play in the defensive 50. A bargain at Pick #60.

61 ADEL Luke Peel Sandringham
Very young, just turned 17. Could become Adelaide's replacement for Smart/Hart, but the question is whether he is tall enough being only 187cm, yet is most likely still growing. Worth taking.

62 PORT Darren Brakenbridge North Adelaide
Another local boy. Versatile medium defender/forward. Could be a tall or small option at either end.

63 SYD Dylan Pfitzner Central Districts
Big tall boy who is a very good team player. Getting to the bottom of the KPP pool here.

64 COLL Mungara Brown Northern
Morrish Medal winner. Can find the footy. Tough in the clinches. Reasonably quick over short distance, bit is a little stocky

65 BRIS Harry Miller Port Magpies
Most exciting small forward in the SANFL. Can take a huge hanger.

Not a bad effort!

A couple of points:

pick 36 will be Chris Johnson (F/S Rule).

I'd imagine that we would take Tenace at 5 if he was still there.

That error with pick 36 has been fixed ;)

I'm not convinced about Murphy, Bozza. He does get a stack of the ball, but he plays a looser kind of game. I think if that's what we are after, we might as well look at Mundy at pick #13 who is quicker, better defensively, and a better kick.

But it depends on who we want at pick #13. To be honest, I'm not convinced about Dyson either. We've got Rama, Walsh (the real Rama Mk II), Winderlich, Reynolds, Alvey, Haynes. And we've just recruited Murphy. Do we really need Rama MkIII?

I think it depends how we rate the talls in this year's draft. I think if we take another midfielder at #13, we'd be praying for Stewart at #28.

By the way Bozza, are you sure you aren't deliberately putting in two talls in the top 6 so that we get one of Sylvia, Tenance and Walker?

No I'm not Stevo. Read the comments on Bradley & Watts.

Re Pick 13 this was one of the hardest picks in the entire draft, along with Sydney's first two picks. In the end I went with Dyson, but if I went for the tall it would have been Gayfer or Stewart. Very close call.

Bradley I can see going to Carlton.

But I'm not convinced that the Bulldogs will go for another tall. They've got quite a few young talls. We'll see who they delist.

Top effort. Given all that I have read... the most likely one so far.

I'd be deliriously happy if we got these guys. I can see us taking Burges maybe if he is still around at pick 19 (one pick before the eagles) and I can see west coast grabbing Surjan if we don't get him with our first pick (although more than happy with Ray instead!).

great effort but id be majorly shocked if we picked up johnson wth pick 11.

if we were that desperate to get a key position i think we'd go pettigrew before johnson, but both would be around at pick 26 anyway if we wanted to hold out.

I think we'll go Surjan/Burges with pick 11, Johnson/Pettigrew/Burges with pick 20 and Pettigrew/Johnson/Burges/Waters with pick 26.........

or if someone like Chaplain or Tenace managed to fall through the draft to pick 11 we'd take them. Maybe even Gayfer.

who the WA clubs and the WA boys end up with/go to will be one of the most interesting things out of this draft.

There is Freo with pick 10 and 12 and 19, WCE with 11, 20 and 26.

And there is Surjan, Johnson, Pettigrew, Ray, Burges, Moody, Spanderman and Brent Hall to find homes who will all likely go in the top 30.

Great stuff bozza..as ive stated b4 i like us using pick 13 on Dyson..this is a midfielder laden draft so we should take the best we can as the talls are mostly project players you will still get a decent one at 28 or 44.

Dyson will be better than all of them IMO. Dyson could slot into a forward crumbing role or a back flank till he devolops and gets some experience. Then i see him becoming a very damaging midfielder.

For the record Bozza, out of the top five you only got the first one right. Picks one, two and four are set in stone and Melbourne's first two picks are out of three players. That's all I'm saying, unzipped lips sink ships.;)

There is no such thing as "cast in stone" when it comes to draft picks. It is all mere speculation, the only one that could be considered a certainty is that the Doggies will nab Cooney. If they don't, then the whole thing is a complete lottery.

This is one of the best ones I've seen so far. As usual there are a few I disagree on (Peel, Trotter and a couple of others should be lower, doubt Michael Johnson will go 1st round after getting overlooked last year).

Also - you described Dean Chester as a hard nuggety midfielder. In fact, he is a very skinny forward pocket who is VERY much an outside player and loves kicking goals.

Also I dooubt Mungara Brown will get picked up, wasn't invited to screening camp and didn't even win the Knights B&F - he had a very good year, but I thought he was a surprise winner of the Morrish Medal.

I've noticed a lot of people have Bonson at pick 44 - I have my doubts. Not on his ability (I was lucky enough to see him in a warm-up match) but on whether he will be a lot of work.

40 NORTH Ben Cosgriff Murray

i owuld love to have him @ the lions with a pick before that, watched the rnd 2 game of the championships between the 2 victorian sides & he did so well in that game & he is a good size i reckon... it woul dbe good to get him, thought that the likes of Ryley Dunn is good too but i just duno if he will go before our 1st pick...... yeah think Fergus watts is a champ as well & a great height but still very agile & has a pretty mean kick by the look of it...but he WILL be gone way before our 1st pick.....

would be happy to pick up Jake though @ 33, hes a good player & a good size & has good leadership skills as well.....

Unless the Eagles delist someone else, we will only have 3 picks. Don't be surprised to see us pick up Michael Embley at 26. If we take Burges at 20 as well, thats alot of speculative drafting. I'm worried.

A pretty fair effort from our perspective, as discussed by FunkyMonk, the most likely so far.

I also doubt WCE will take Johnson at 11, and that might interfere with us taking Moody at 19. There will be some ducks and drakes between West Coast and Fremantle with so many picks around and immediately before each other.

If we didn't get Johnson prior I'd be pretty sure we would take Pettigrew at 27.

Our list is basically full after #43, and we will pass on later rounds.

I think Luke Peel will go about 40 places higher Bozza. As you said he is very very young but he oozes class. I predict late first round or early second.
