Two W.A kids who high rated highly in their tiime in our system, just wondering about their progress and if they are likely to pull on a guernsy any time soon.

Cheers.

No. I'd say both will be delisted at the end of this year.

Tough call, but you may well be right.

There is going to be a squeeze on senior spots at the end of this season. There are no senior players who look like retiring, and none of the experienced mob looks to be in danger of delisting. A minimum of three senior players have to be cut for the draft, and meanwhile Jack, Rowe and Barlow (based on last week's performance) all look senior AFL potential.

Bevan may be in danger, though Roos seems to like him, and Vogels may also be looking over his shoulder. But Thornton and Brabazon certainly need to show a bit more at the moment to assure their spots for next year.

Crouch may retire - depends on how his body copes from now on. Regardless, I think it will take him a while to get back to the form he was in before the injuries - and I'm thinking possibly around finals time. (unless he's stuffed already and we should get an idea pretty soon.)

Brabazon and Thorton are average players and are similar types. Considering we're packed with short people anyway, I can't see why these guys should be on the list next season.

Bevan is like Matthews, I guess there will always be room for a player like him at the Swans. I'd gladly trade him for a draft pick next year though.

Don't forget that both of our veterans (O'Loughlin and Barry) are 'inside' the senior list. They can be moved onto the veteran's list proper, and we've effectively 'delisted' two players.

I'd say that there's probably one spot for either Brabazon or Thornton at the end of the year, and if that's the case I suspect the 'project player' Thornton will get it. I think Bevan will be delisted and it might also be the end of the road for Stephen Doyle if he doesn't play more than a small handful of games this season. Hopefully common sense will win-out with Benny Mathews too.

However, at round 4 it is too early in the season to talk about such things in anything but the most speculative of terms.

Yes I agree with Charlie that's its too early to pass judgment. This time last year I would have said Simpkin had no chance of getting retained on the rookie list, let alone promoted but his improvement was fantastic.

Between the two I think Thornton would be ahead of Brabazon at the moment.

won't delist doyle, who will ruck when spider/jolly are injured.

stupid comment charlie
bevan will stay.

That presupposes that there is an alternative spare parts ruckman available. If one, possibly two of Currie, Shaw or Rowe turn out to be a viable option for the 2008 season, Doyle is in trouble.

Yay! Let's get personal!

bevan will stay.

We'll see.

Both have been playing well in the reserves. Brabazon has been moved to an on ball role and has had 25+ possies, kicked goals in both games. Thornton has been versatile as well and is still a year younger.
It's a bit early to start naming who is going?

The blurb on these 2 before they were drafted was that they were big midfield possession getters.

The standard of the ressies really doesn't give us much of a benchmark to work on, but if they are getting high possessions as mentioned by someone else then that's about all they can do.

If Brabazon has been moved into the midfield then that's good because that's what he was recruited as. This week might see one of these blokes promoted.
