this is my guess what happens going forward

in 5-7 years Dimma will come down from the Gold Coast(not saying he will win a premiership there, who knows too many variables) anyway he goes to the Bombers and asks for ten years which is long enough for anyone to get their toys lined up how they want for the Bombers to be successful in their way if that is what the Bombers want and they believe in him.

Dimma might no even desire the job but he did play for them and win there
That won’t happen

In 5-7 years time Dimma will be cooked and 60 years old
He will be like Mick Malthouse once he is finished at GC and would have lost the hunger and pockets full

Yep. Hard to see Clarko coaching anywhere as well. Maaybe an assistant or VFL but my guess is he retires and joins the media.

Essendon & Carlton are getting chased down on the flag tally too. Pies now equal, with Hawks, Tiges, Dees & BBFFC all hovering on 13.

I would probably back Geelong to get to 17 before Carlton or Essendon too. The problem with those two clubs is that they have not only got a big drought but have had problems on and off the field that go beyond say what Geelong or Pies went through with their premiership droughts. Despite the droughts those teams were always up and about and competing for flags, just had a tendency to choke or were just not quite at the same level as the best. A part of this had to do with the insane zoning rules that basically gifted teams flags over and over again during that period.

Essendon and Carlton have not even been remotely close for a long time now, they have not adapted to the modern age and don't really understand how to reconcile it with their history as a "succesful" club when the game was basically an amateur league. How on earth Essendon settled on Brad Scott is beyond me, he absolutely ****ed North. Also Carlton with Voss, they have absolutely NFI. They just make mistake after mistake. Their droughts look more likely to head into South Melbourne or St Kilda territory. With even more teams in the competition now and both of them will have to do a rebuild through a new team coming through I just can't see them getting close for a long time given how badly run they've been.

Clarko doesn’t have the personality for the media. Would be rubbish

Would rather have Clarko as a commentator/game analyst over the likes of Riewoldt x2, Kellie "the orange team" Underwood, Gary "warning" Lyon, BT, JB etc etc

I could see him popping up on Fox Footy to analyse coaching strategies, and maybe as the fifth member of one of the radio commentary teams.
Honestly, the Merrett deal should have been done. He didn’t want to be there. He still doesn’t.
I can understand that Essendon didn't want him to go to Hawthorn. What Essendon person would want to give the Hawks the missing piece they need to win a flag?

But the Bombers should have lined up another offer at a different club.

For the right price, GWS would have done a deal. Why bring in Clarry when you can have Merrett?

It would be like arsenic to the team's culture to have a guy in the licker room every week who doesn't want to be there.

Yes but logic should always win over emotions the better play was letting him go last year

Welshy has already put a massive red target on himself

I'm surprised he's lasted this long and would've got rid of him a while ago. But I'm not sure why you'd pull the trigger now. They actually showed some heart in an impossible situation last night.
I think he has until the bye, barring an absolutely catastrophic result before then.

The next two weeks, Essendon is playing West Coast and then Carlton. After that, Melbourne.

On current form, I'd be very surprised if Essendon gets over Melbourne.

So at the very least, Brad Scott needs at least one win against either West Coast or Carlton.

If he can't manage that, and he goes into the bye with losses in consecutive weeks to Richmond, West Coast, and Carlton, plus most likely a thrashing by Melbourne, then it's very easy to make tge argument that there's no benefit to keeping him around.

The conversation then becomes if he wants to save face by resigning, like Voss did, or if they just sack him.

I think people need to get over the rivalry though.

Welsh can't continue to talk tough and do nothing. Listening to Dermie and Hird on FC during the week was alarming enough for Brad, they both would have inside intel on what the feel is inside the playing group. What Derm said about the teams warmup prior to this game was pretty damning. Crowds are terrible, club legends are speaking out. If they don't want to play for him there is only one solution.

He is clearly gone - by the bye if they dont with at least one of the very winnable games against awful wc and carlton teams.

But they need to way more, probably all coaches need to go, hire a coach to fix the player culture, get rid of any Hird influence, find a proper captain, get rid of whoever gave gresham a game he didnt deserve etc

The Essendon board will need to sit down at the bye and have a good long hard look at what Brad Scott has actually achieved during his coaching career at both North & Essendon
This is his 14th years and 4th year at the bombers and i dont believe not 1 person could say they are in a better position now to when he was appointed.

They need to clear out dodos failures. That will take time.

Honestly, the Merrett deal should have been done. He didn’t want to be there. He still doesn’t. They are simply going to have to trade him anyway this year and they’ll get substantially less anyway. It just doesn’t make any sense.
Yep, that and they won't give Tsatas enough opportunities. They should have sacked Scott last season.

McGrath breaking his jaw is a blessing. He is a cancer of mediocre that will only continue metastasising if he remains a leader at the club.
Your happy that one of our players broke his jaw where he got sent to hospital? what shit thing to say. he put his body on the line for the team

Obviously an unpopular opinion…but I’d still have Hird back.

Seeing Ross come back to saints after what he did to them makes me believe anything is possible in this game.
Ross is a bad coach but at least he isnt a cheating narcisst.

I think Brad Scott is a bog ordinary coach with a reputation based on his brother being good.

Having said that. I'm not sure even Chris could get much out of this list (he'd certainly getting a lot more than Brad though).

The seeds of this shambles of a club were planted a long time ago and kept well watered over the decades by Dodorro, Hird, Sheedy, and the "power brokers" at the club that lead to disasters like the Thorburn appointment.

If ever a club needed a complete clean out and fresh start its Essendon.

Yep, a big mistake Essendon did was keeping Sheedy for as long as they did. I mean 25+ years as a senior coach of an AFL club....absolutely rediculous. Far too long. He should have been moved on probably 2 or 3 years prior to his final year (2007).
