Milllane was tough - so much so he didn't even need a don't argue - loved him on the wing at Vic Park
Old manic was lucky enough to play against him when he was at Dandenong. Not that I had any idea what he was to become

Players were scared of Millane, had an aura
I met a former Fitzroy player at a function years ago, I can remember his name and I didn’t recognise him at the time, he was a fringe player that never made it.

Anyway he told a story about one day out at Vic park he was going for a loose ball on the wing and saw millane charging in out of the corner of his eye. He stepped aside and let millane take it much to the delight of the crowd.

Worsfold was fairly tough but Millane sorted him out on one occasion with a solid hip and shoulder

That's because you were focused on the ball Manic

Everywhere, except prison, you'd be a head down bum up kinda guy

As previously mentioned, Caroline Wilson is TOTALLY out of order by STILL referring to the Maynard - Brayshaw incident as "Maynard's hit on Brayshaw".

In my opinion, the club and Brayden would be entitled to remind her that Brayden was totally exonerated on appeal and could she please desist from using this terminology. In fact, could she please desist from referring to the incident.
It wasn't even on appeal. Both MRO and tribunal cleared him. Only went to the tribunal to pacify angry sentiment.

‘Salty’ Parish coached Griffith when I was going around at Narrandera, ripping bloke but ruthless ****er on the ground and I was lucky enough to share a few beers after games on a few occasions and he told me Pants was only a bit of a kid when he played against him but had that aura about him at a young age.
Vale Pants and Salty. Blokes that their team mates loved.

I don’t see the problem?

Maynard did hit Brayshaw? What else would you call what happened?

Sure, Maynard went to the tribunal and was cleared of any wrongdoing. I don’t see Caro suggesting otherwise? It was still a hit.

My mind instantly goes to Greg Anderson.
Correct.

Anderson made a big mistake in the home and away round in 1990 by being best on ground and making Millane look a bit of a goose out at Waverley. Pies lost that day ( then got belted by hawthorn the week later and the season looked like it was about to unravel before they fired up in the home stretch)

Pants ( with a broken thumb) went on to scare him witless twice in the finals.

It was a “collision with”. A “hit on” suggests intent. Caro needs to do better.

She can write. She selects her words for effect.

That’s not all Wilson said. While the other FC panel members spoke in glowing terms about Maynard’s strong KB game and about his upcoming 200th, Wilson’s only contribution was to very sourly refer to how “sad it was for Brayshaw that the AFL let him down by not suspending Maynard”, and then said Maynard behaved inappropriately again after the incident (referring to his visit to Brayshaw with flowers).

Wilson happily ignores the facts of the case, that it was just an unfortunate accidental collision that happens in football, as the tribunal correctly found. She also never mentions that Brayshaw had a long history with concussion issues, wore a helmet due to his concussion concerns had previously spoken about possible retiring due to concussion - nah, for her, it’s all on Maynard. Would be totally different if he played for Richmond.

I see players hit the post all the time, but I don’t see any evidence that they intended to?

I think we’re being a bit sensitive. If it had been Ed who said those words nobody would have thought anything of it.

By that logic then it was also a hit by Brayshaw on Maynard.

Caro did say “I agree with the positive stuff about Collingwood …”

The Caro quote “Their <Melbourne> anger is directed at the AFL for not standing up for what Maynard did” … surely that reflects poorly on Melbourne for being buffoons who don’t understand the tribunal system, rather than Caro?

The Caro quote “Maynard did one inappropriate thing after the original hit on Bradshaw which was go to his house” - yeah, I don’t think she should have tossed that out there without clarifying exactly what she meant. The way I understand it, Collingwood are winners, which is why Maynard went to his house. Melbourne by contrast are not, which is why they probably took offence. And I am very comfortable with that. I’m guessing Moore hasn’t made the dastardly evil mistake of visiting Petracca in hospital with flowers.

Not many would describe playing against Millane as lucky
I had no idea who he was at the time. He was just a kid and I wasn't much older myself. Chances are I would have trash talked his ears off though, I had a habit of boring my opponents into submission

Are you related to Caro by any chance?

… and she is getting away with a pretty serious defamation via this and earlier comments. Outside the sporting world you would be lucky to get away with suggesting a high-profile person had taken deliberate action to injure another. It is patently unfair to Maynard.

How about when a player runs into the post accidentally, do we use hit there? How about if they slam their fist into the post in frustration? This to me is more analogous. One would be considered a "collision" the other a "hit".

I do believe Caro's wording is intentionally charged. A hit if you will.
