The tackle statistic is only for effective tackles, i.e. a tackle that causes a turnover or creates a stoppage. Maynard having 0 to his name doesn't mean he laid a tackle all day, it just means he didn't lay an effective tackle. Smothers are great, but no better than an effective tackle, and not as good if said tackle results in a holding the ball call unless the smother leads to a turnover.Yep, I'd rather a player make a smother than lay an ineffectual tackle or bump as/after the opponent kicks it. Smothers should be encouraged far more
But Cloke couldn't. But of course did under Bevo.... errr wait......Another one of those players who has not improved under Bucks...no wait, hang on

Be good if he minimised the turnovers that directly result in opposition goals.Time for this boy to be given some freedom and played in the midfield, you can see his frustration chasing tails all day in defence.
Sure, but he is not the only one!Be good if he minimised the turnovers that directly result in opposition goals.
Hey, his season overall has been quite good. Certainly not our biggest problem.Sure, but he is not the only one!
But I believe that he can be something else and better than just a small defender.
What I love about him is he plays with passion and looks like he really cares, unlike some. (Sidebottom, etc)
Yeah rightioCan't kick.
Damn straight.Yeah rightio
How do you work that out?Damn straight.
Yeah they were bad turn overs but if you used your eyes you would notice that most of his kicks hit targets and that two of the ones he missed was under pressure on his right foot. The problem isn't his kicking it's more the decision making when he is on his opposite he needs to take the easier option instead of backing himself and taking the game onThat he can't kick?
I use my eyes.
Put him on the wing. He'll move the ball into the forward 50m quickly with his penetrationAnother guy on the list with strength, speed, a long raking kick, but a bit lost positioning wise, Maynards best spot is a running half back or a winger, not an Alan Toovey style shut down defender.
In that good period where we won 3 in a row he was playing some very good footy when he was further up the field. He hitting players up in the forward 50 a couple times a game. This needs to start happening again.Put him on the wing. He'll move the ball into the forward 50m quickly with his penetration

Lol you never take a backwards step. It's great how he never lets anyone get in his faceThe further away from the last line of defence the better for Maynard. Still a long way to go and perhaps he can learn that when you've had five kicked on you, you don't carry on like your he-man
