Player Watch Brayden Maynard

What game were you watching? Tackles as hard as anyone and is hard at it as proved by that fabulous run down tackle at an important stage in the game.
To say he runs the other way when the ball comes near him is just idiotic. For someone who you say can't read the play, he seems to get himself into pretty good scoring situations and usually converts.

That left foot is going to be a big weapon in the future. Only hope the coaches can see this and play him in the midfield. I wouldn't want to be standing in front of him when he charges out of the centre with ball in hand.

I'm talking about Jackson Ramsay... You?

Howe, Scharenberg, Maynard and Dunn.

We have some really damaging ball users in our back half.
How good were Dunn's long kicks to WHE in the last quarter against freo, WHEs marks were good too. Thought Maynards tackle on Grey in the last was superb too.

WHE should be a target to hit from kick outs. His marking power is exordinary.

He reminds me of a number 37 we had running around in the early 2000s. Raking left foot laser who kicked goals from half back and had a bit of dash about him. Ryan Lonie. I think he is version 2.0 which means he is a better version and going to be a Collingwood fav by the time he is done.

A much much much much tougher version of Ryan Lonie

Ryan Lonie was about the softest player I have ever seen pull on the black and white jersey.

Maynard is the opposite of soft.

Well Lonie had Class to make up for it

Well Lonie had Class to make up for it

Yeah not sure id agree with that.

Lonie wasnt as bad as people make him out to be.. but class is not a word i would associate with him.

He was similar to maybe a Jack Crisp - a consistent 16-25 guy who you just know what he can provide.

---

Maynard is a completely different player. Doesnt have the consistency yet, but should have a reasonable ceiling if he continues to improve defensively and plays within his limits offensively.

Both left footers with dark hair - as far as similarities go that's about it between Lonie & Maynard.

Lonie was good for a while, but very, very outside.

Mark my words he's going to be our Dusty Martin. And before anyone laughs at that suggestion,i would just ask,was Martin any better than he is now at the age of 19 or 20?I can see the resemblance already. Both quick strong raging bulls who are hard to tackle.Maynard has that lethal left foot as well, which is rapidly becoming a weapon.Just let him play up in the midfield and you won't see so many brain fades from him.I can see him developing into an A grader in the next few years.

We've got a good one in Maynard, keep the faith people.

Players like Adams and Maynard add a Brisbane like (under Matthews) hardness to our side; that's a nice to have.

I also see Maynard's ceiling to be very high.

I can see that. Great post!

Fair call, the biggest issue when recruited was his tank, getting through games well now and looks like he'll do whatever is needed.

Theres argument to say in his first two seasons Martin was as good as if not better than Chris Judd. I agree Maynard will be a great player but he is a fair bit behind Dusty (as is most of the competition)

My only disagreement with this assessment would be that Martin kicks with both feet, but Maynard is one sided. He is still developing into a really good player, with his pace the unexpected bonus for me.

He looks to have gained a lot of confidence the last few weeks. He is playing with real aggression and really utilizing his left boot. He has been playing higher up the field as well, and we are benefitting from his kicking going inside 50. I think 2 weeks ago he had 5 kicks inside 50 with 100% efficiency. He also laid a few beauties off against Freo as well.

With Wells out for a lengthy period, our game plan going into forward 50 should revolve around Maynard. Get the ball to him at all costs and deliver into the 50 more often.
