Player Watch Brayden Maynard

Love to see Maynard get Real Fit over the Pre-Season and we can put him in the Midfield as we need more of his Type in there.

He did that well for Sandy when Re-Placing a Injured Angus Brayshaw in his Draft Year

Move to the midfield is abit of a joke i think.

He’s just starting to hit a level close to All Australian and his confidence is at an all time high, so id rather forget about a move to the midfield and look at other options.

Reminds me of a tougher version of Shannon Hurn, probably better 1v1 than Hurn, but hurns stronger over head. Both meaty boys with a booming kick.

Premiership-contending teams are built on defence nowadays and we've got the makings of an elite defensive unit for the next 2-3 years, with Maynard and Moore really coming on and Roughead being a surprise lock down defender at full back, on top of what we already had in Howe, Langdon and Crisp.

A full season of that back six would give opposition forward lines more than a few headaches I suspect.

Both Maynard and Crisp should move into the mids
Ive been thinking similar, but it may be easier to find Crisp and Maynard level midfielders, than Crisp and Maynard level back flankers. They're awesome back flankers, but will probably only be run of the mill mids.

As much as being a utility is beneficial to a team, so too is being a player who has a permanent position. Think of it the other way around. Would you really want to see Treloar and Beams playing on the back flank!?
Maynard is a tenacious and aggressive player who has become more disciplined over his career. He is one of my favourite players due to these qualities. His performance on Ablett in the finals was a perfect blanketing role.

On Saturday I would have like to see Maynard move into the midfield after GWS kicked a few goals. We only had 3 on the board and needed to change the dynamic with out mids being tagged and generally outplayed, particularly in the stoppages. Maynard may have provided a spark in the tight stoppage packs. In general though, I think he is being played in his best position and the rile that best suits the team. We have to hope Beams comes good and gives the midfield the lift it needs. We also need to work on Grundy's connection with the mids and some versatility in game plan. On Saturday he needed to hit the ball wider to change the game. Something along the lines of the 2018 PF.

Moving Maynard permanently would be robbing Peter to pay Paul. Add Beams to the mids and improve their work with a dominant Grundy - get a good ruck coach. Find a forward that can clunk a pack mark (Josh Bruce?). Replace Noble with Langdon and maybe Quaynor down the track. That's a start.

Surely he deserves a thread. What a journey for one so young, still only 23. Started off with lots of hits and misses but has been rock solid for couple seasons.

He is fearless, wears his heart on his sleeve, loves Pies, loves teammates and we all love his scissor cutting passes and long shots on goal.

Come on 200 games

One of those players who I’ve been high on since day one.

Problem is I’m wrong half the time. I really think this guys is going to be one we view as a pies legend. Something there I feel like once he hits that prime 26-27 we’ll be talking about his much differently.

Congrats to Brayden on reaching 100 games.

I remember his debut well, which Darcy Moore happened to debut in as well. It was against Hawthorn (Round 14 2015), sadly the same day when Phil Walsh passed away.

A genuine hard nut and the type of player who lifts the whole team with his toughness. Loved watching him play from the beginning.

Except that his 'scissor passes' don't always hit the mark and are rarely precise, and his long shots at goal mostly miss. His kicking is overrated by people on this board because he is a left footer.

He certainly is tough, and solid defensively, but a long way from being an offensive asset still.
