who knows? If Melbourne lose a grand final they may offer up a high pick to get a 25 year old in their prime to help out.

would you trade Maynard for pick 7?
What’s your best guess?
I would say highly unlikely.

Not a chance. Why would you give up a proven player who is only going to get better for the inherent uncertainty of a pick?

And it wouldn’t be a first round pick either.

What is the likelihood of that happening?

Pretty unlikely, Carlton got nothing for Saad. Essendon on the other hand....

Can I just confirm, that these pages of discussion about a Maynard departure are based on one suggestion of the possibility by some guy on the radio a few weeks back?

I wouldn’t want to lose him, but that’s massive overs for Maynard. It’s also the type of deal that could only be orchestrated if he wanted out and we weren’t facing further cap constraints. I’m a bit iffy on either being the case.

Maynard needs to stay. He is your heart and soul (Ben Johnson) type player.

i am a bit confused how Melbourne can afford an expensive free agent style recruit every season, while still retaining their internal quality players. Doesn’t add up to me.
Yes been thinking the same thing about the Dees, certainly have their fair share of imports.

depends what we can get from him.

if we got offered pick 7 or 8 like Carlton got for Saad would you turn that down?

I would turn it down. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m tired of this over valuing of draft picks.

Maynard is borderline AA material already in his position and should have another 5-7 years left. He will still be in his prime once we have rebuilt.

I’m not trading that kind of quality away, if we don’t have to, just for a slight chance of drafting someone better. Chances are they won’t be…

I don’t think Maynard is leaving, but…

Imagine Bucks ends up as coach of Gold Coast next year. Wouldn’t be hard to imagine some Collingwood players wanting to follow him. Far fetched I know, but stranger things have happened.

Can we have JM's, JT's, MC's, CM's and CB's papers pre-stamped and ready to go in exchange for a sprinkling of draft picks (and maybe a young player not getting a game) over the next couple of years, as a just-in-case thing?

trade maynard for ben simmons

Ben appears to have found his inner demons and developed a solid "team oriented" approach to scoring while also working hard to drop his set shot accuracy to a suitable level over the past 4-6 weeks, so he might be a better (perfect?) fit for our forward line now than he was previously?

Would Hind let through 8 goals in two losses against Greene, well objectively, no - because we wouldn't have that matchup, we would likely play Quaynor on him if Maynard wasn't there...

Pretty sure I know what Toby's emphatic answer would be if you asked him whether he'd rather have Maynard or Quaynor on him.

Quaynor is a solid developing player and (generally) a good user of the ball (although he has his bad days as well), but gee he gets his pants pulled down a fair bit in one-on-one contests especially against better small forwards.

Yeah the first round pick is going the other way for Weideman anyway if Tom Morris is on the money. He'll eventually connect the dots with his favourite coloured crayon and come up with Maynard for Weideman as a deal which is fair for both sides.

Weideman gives me Jesse White vibes

Be the first player to decline an All Australian position...

Off topic but I don't blame a young baller who has just had the biggest mental and emotional meltdown we've seen in a while on one of the biggest stages in elite sports feeling like he's not going to be mentally up to competing at the Olympics 4-5 weeks from now.
