An article by Mr Rucci in this mornings Advertiser contained a small part concerning the Crows having a go at picking up Brendon Lade at the end of the year,

How does anyone of you guys think about this ??
myself i'm not sure where we could fit him in the side on a permanent basis & to be honest he doesn't seem to have the leap of yester years (due to having his leg broken twice) & he is getting on in years,

If we do make a play for him who/what do we offer the paps in a trade, maybe a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick

any thoughts,????

Might be worth going for if we can get him cheap. Other than that, no way. He's getting on and he's had his fair share of injuries.

I can't see why Port would want to get rid of Lade though. He's been going alright this season. Getting rid of him would severly hinder their ruck depth. In fact it would put them in the same boat that we're currently in since Ackland is still a long way off the pace. Maybe worse if Primus can't be as effective as he once was.

I wouldnt think that you need Brendon Lade. Maybe you are lacky that sort of player but wouldnt it be better to go for a Ray Hall type player :). Lade has had injuries and I dont even rate him as a good player. I cant even find a spot for him in your side.

There are other options that you could go for. Maybe at a cheap (really cheap) price and if you are desperate but other then that there is no need!

Please No!!!!

We don't need his bow legs and no game.

If we gave up anything other than a late draft pick (later than 50) I would be devastated.

He would be our third ruckman, and a backup tall forward. And he's not young either. He would get no more opportunity with us than he's getting at Port. He's certainly not going to give us much more than Marsh does.

That's my opinion anyway.

I am NOT a fan at all.

If we keep going for older players like this we will end up with an image worse than Sydney had under Eade. Yes, Lade is not that old, but he still has huge question marks over him in terms of injury. Frankly, we don't need another Fitzgerald experiment.

Use our picks and trades wisely and get some good kids who will serve our club till 2015.

Pretty much my thoughts as well but if he came for a mid-late draft pick might just be the back up big man we need,

not a very convincing argument for making a play for him is it though, ???

No, not at all.

And agreed with **** too, he would be filling in the same role as Marsh. Perhaps the Paps would consider a straight swap!

PROS:

- a good ruckman that will give you an option around the ground
- can play asa key forward
- is more likely to challenge for a regular spot than Marsh would

CONS:

- history of injury problems
- getting on in age
- Power would want something good for him
- Seems to have lost his leap since breaking his leg twice

I say no way. What we need is a YOUNG up and coming ruckman. Not another 17-28 year old who has had history of broken legs and who will give you at most 4 years of service. If Clarke was to retire this year then I say yes as a quick fix but definetly not otherwise. The only ruckman from the Power that I would be interested in is Brogan and even he is 25. He would be worth a 1st round draft pick but I wouldn't give anything up for Lade.

Jamar, Seaby, Cox, Doyle (injury prone) and even Jolly would be on my list of recruits before Lade. At least these guys have 10 years to offer you unlike Lade who will not be around in 3-4 years time.

As napsyd said we need youngsters not washed up have beens in the area that we are not THAT desperate.;)

We MUST draft talented youngsters this year

Getting Lade would be a bizzare move IMO.

We need to get one possibly two young ruckman, a key positiion player and a ball winning fast on-baller.

Hopefully we can get these fromSouth Australia, but if not we must do our pyscological testing properly!!

Surely Rucci's pulled this one from his nether regions! Well he sure didn't read it on the bigfooty Crows site anyway. ;)

Could the club be seriously considering this at all? Anything more than a 50+ pick or a player like Marsh, Nelson or Schell would be selling our future IMO.

Having said that we got a player like Stiffy with a 50+ pick so really this shouldn't be entertained at all.

Just another example of Port's one man promotional brigade, Michaelangelo Rucci, trying to float an idea that would be beneficial to Port.

I just can't even vaguely see why the AFC would want this hack on our list.

No, no, no!!

As has been mentioned by some knowledgeable posters, we need to get some young rucking talent to succession plan Clarke / Biglands.

I would only consider Lade as a short-term depth solution if it was the only way to get rid of Marsh & we give up buggar all for him (ie. Marsh, Schell, etc or a 5th round pick) - can't see this happening though as Port would want more than we are willing to give up.

Rucci is a shocker no doubt about it.

The media in this state are absolutely hopeless.

Can't remember the last in depth interesting article I read in the Advo.

 I cant recall him missing a game thru injury since his comeback game in the Ansett cup in 2002. Missed a couple with form, but none thru injury....so your comment is a strange one, considering Fitzgerald couldnt go 3 weeks without doing something.

I wouldnt think the Crows would want him all taht badly. Altho the Lade to the Crows rumour has been around since before his first knee injury so maybe its just digging up and dusting off an old rumour.

Rucci comes up with some of the most bizzare rumours. He must be sitting in his office thinking how can I get a headline.

One of the biggest shockers of all time last year was that Crows were preparedd to trade Johncock to Port for Lade. when in fact Crows were trying to broker a deal foor Dean Brogan!!!!!!

That's a classic example of Port's one man promotional brigade in action. Absolutely f***ing ridiculous. He should have been horse whipped for printing cr*p like that.

Now Brogan - there's a different proposition!!! He has the goods!!! But Port would want too much for him.

Pretty well spot on IMO.
Lade has improved with every game this year, and thus would not come cheap. It was always going to take quite a while because of the type of injuries he had, plus we still need him at this stage, firing on all four or not.

Also you should be targeting youngsters, even if you find a cheap short term replacement for Marsh.

Wrt Primus,we are yet to see the full effect of the new ruck interpretations on him. Hopefully we will not see a repeat of the West Coast game. That was an absolute joke.

Although Brogan is 25 he would be more than handy as he would have 5-7 years left in him but as you said he would cost an arm and a leg. If St. Kilda didn't ruin our plans last year Brogan would be playing fr the Crows this year. But saint had to offer Port a deal that was too good to be true and our attempt to get Brogan fell on its arse.

We should target youngsters. That kid from WA appears to be a top 10 pick. We either trade up in the draft or we go for a local kid from Glenelg Clinton Dubieniecki (sp????) who is 201 cm and 95 kg. The way things look at the moment we could get a decent KPP with our first pick

Ruckman to be targeted in trading period: Mark Seaby (WC) and Mark Jamar (Melb.) look to be the players that we should go for.

WC have 4-5 ruckman on their list and will look to off-load one. Cox is the most likely. Would Doughty for Cox be a fair trade?????

I'm not sure that Cox is the man we are looking for as a long term proposition which is what we need. He'd be okay as a fill in but may be that's all.

I prefer the option of getting a very young ruckman by trading up in the draft or for a Seaby/Jamar type.

Does depend on what's available though.
