There are rumours flying around Essendon are shopping Brent Stanton around. IMO he is just what we need - hard running, skillful, classy, goal kicking onballer. I would be happy to give up pick #11 for him. Averaged 22 possession game this year and usually gets a heavy tag. I really rate him.
Interested in what everyone else thinks?

I hope that they are just rumours. He is a required player and IMO worth more than pick 11. He was pick 12 (from memory and has lived up to his potential) so i think that if we were to part with him, it would need to be better than we paid for him. only my opinion though.

He's a good player, but he isn't a ball winner. We NEED tough ball winners. Stanton isn't one.

Ranked 14th in the comp for kicks per game
Ranked 18th in the comp for inside 50's
Averaged 22.1 possessions per game
Kicked 18 goals this season
Had better stats than S.Pendlebury this year
Best game 32 disps (22 kicks 10 hballs), 12 marks, 9 tackles and 3 goals in Rd 15 37-pt win over Brisbane at Telstra Dome

Why would we tag him in round 17 if he wasnt a ball winner?

Why would a team light on for midfielders be looking to trade away one of their better existing midfielders?

Makes no sense.

I'm a Stanton fan , depending on cost of course , I think we should definately look at him .

Hard to see why the Dons are shopping him around though .

Only reason i can see is to get another high pick so we have some bargaining power for Kerr?
I personally wouldnt get rid of him.

He is hard running , but certainly not skillful or classy. **** me there are better ways to blow a first round pick , or we could use it on an under 18 player we rate , who could actually be skillful and classy.

He doesn't win his own ball/ He's a receiver. We need ball winners. Simple.

I would be disappointed if we traded for this bloke.

Rather keep 1st & 2nd round picks. The Bombers would want one of these picks for him.

I'd trade a 2nd rounder for him, but the Bombers probably won't even be putting him on the table, let alone accepting pick #29.

Generally speaking though, he's too outside for our needs. Great runner and provides and option, but doesn't win much of his own ball.

Correct. Outside player who doesnt cope well with a tag. Reminds me of nick stevens.

YEAH, thank god we didnt get Nick Stevens,
what a waste....................................................................NOT!!!!!

Where's the dotted line? :thumbsu:

I would have thought you rated him higher then that GT:eek:

I think he's a potential gun, got a huge tank and finds more ball then most. Has struggled a llittle with the tag but i think he'll push through that.

I agree that we need inside mids but imagine Stanton, Pendles, Cousins, Swan running throughout a game.....would be nice..........just need someone in and under to feed it out., maybe pick 11 for Stanton & Watson LOL.

Essendon wont give up any young required players for less than 1st rounders, Stanton is a good young player with plenty of upside but has his flaws, his decision making is questionable under pressure and he seems to go missing when Essendon have a bad game which is a trait i hate seeing in players as it means their pride factor is less than 100%.
If it came down to him or O'Keefe for roughly the same deal id take O'Keefe every time for sure.

What is the obsession of Collingwood fans in recruiting players who can't kick. Is it because thats pretty much all we have had for so long, we are used to only having players who can't kick, so now we want more.

Personally i am sick of it, Stanton is average at best, **** him off.

Understand you Ron but few players are an elite kick thats why there not on the market.
We have to recruit them in the draft and make sure disposal is very good.
However Cross is an average kick so is Watson but i tell you what wed almost challenge for a GF with those two at collingwood and nobody would say they wouldnt have them at their club. For what its worth i woulnt have Stanton but as Knights is similar to Cross and actually gets his own ball which is what we lack you could not say hed be detrimental to our team IMO.

If we could get pick #11 that would be absolutely fantastic.

As GreaT SourcE said, where's the dotted line?

I would not even hesitate for pick 11!

Ron however seems to know what he's talking about...

Another light hearted thread. Seriously what can this guy add to our team?

NO Thanks!!!!!!!!!! Essendon can choke on him. Let's Hope he continues to wear that Number 5 for Essendon for many many years. Wouldn't give up pick #99 for him.

BTW Essendon have given the pies some ripper players in the past? SOme that come to mind.

All have done nothing.

Yep.

Seriously guys Brent Stanton is Ryan Cook in a shit side. He is a player with an elite tank who runs hard and gives them an option all day. In there average side his their best option a lot and gets used.

But he is nither a highly skilled user of the ball. Nor an inside player who finds it for himself and hence he is of no use to us. Or many other sides really.
