So we have chased Ben Buckley and Cook who have both rejected us. 7 Months later and still no one of high quality, looks like no one wants the North job.

Who will want the job considering they will be 3rd choice at best? CEO's should have arrogance about them, some sort of ego, and I don't think it would sit well with a lot of potential CEO's.

A million bucks? Does the bloke play centre half forward?

We dodged a bullet.

I hope Geelong aren't too pissed off about us driving his price up by a few $100K.

Hard to Beat that news. ;)

But thanks to all who came across to stir the pot about our (contracted) CEO going...nowhere :p

Poor form.
So good to see you are much better than that...

Look at the bright side Geelong would now have to pay him more, so he just got himself a pay rise, but I suppose the Victorian tax payer will be wearing that, as that's where Geelong get most of their funding.
Still contracted some no we don't

I think we're seeing a lot of referred G. Ablett angst on this issue.

I wonder how many of the good folk of Norlane and Corio are off getting the CEO's name tattooed on their arms as we speak?

One or two will likely get **** tattooed instead.

What's the beef with Geelong supporters? Most of us were understandably anxious at the thought of Cook leaving us given how vital he has been to our recent success. On top of that, he was publicly unhappy with Bomber Thompson leaving us when contracted so it would have left somewhat of a bitter taste if Cook then did the same thing.

I am thrilled he has stayed loyal but the fact he clearly seriously considered the North job proves your club is a desirable place to be. If your next CEO oversees a great period for your club with on field success and record memberships, he'll be as important in your history books as Cook will be to ours.

Good to see someone with manners.

Cook stayed loyal to his job at the cats so we cant get too angry at that. Good to see the club went after the big fish even if it did back fire, but it gives me confidence in the club that they are not going after the cheap option which we all know we have done before, Rick Aylett ring a bell.

I on the other hand wouldn't mind if Vale took the position onfull time, he seems to do a good job.

I imagine Cam would be 'capable', but clearly in terms of who they've targeted, it would seem they are after someone with more of a business development background (within the sports industry), rather than a more narrow accounting and finance background.

That's not to say Cam may not be able to do that, but I'm assuming that's why it's taken so long, and perhaps why they didn't automatically renew Eugene's contract (pre-dispute). We're thinking big, in terms of where they want our next CEO to be able to take us.

How do sour grapes taste mate.;)

You missed the best sports CEO in the business. If you think that's dodging a bullet your club should be grateful you don't hold any decision making position.

Good on your club for its efforts in trying to attract him. It's a disappointing result seeing you've held off so long. I don't share the same sentiments for Vlad who had his mucky fingers all over this. To paraphrase the Ross Oakley bumper sticker - Up Yours Vlad!.

What is it?

Man I couldn't give a toss about Cook, reckon we went the wrong one. Freddy Cook now he'd shake the place up. But it does seem Brian Cook used North to milk the Cats for more coin. So yeah ya probably right;)

I wouldn't believe the sums you read in the press or that our offer amounted to too much more.

There's a history re Cookie and Geelong involving matters not directly associated with the Club that may have played a part in him staying. I wouldn't be surprised that his age had something to do with it too. But make no mistake he's a superlative administrator. We were in deep doo-doos when he arrived and the manner in which he quickly almost halved a sizeable debt through skilfull negotiation with two banks was just one of his terrific achievements.

you tried to steal a CEO off a club that earned over 20 million dollars more in revenue.. it was only a matter of how much we wanted to keep him, your club doesnt have the money to steal quality staff from us that we want to retain
