Hijacking the thread a little - but what did you think of Hendo after watching the prelim again?

In the 10 mins kicked a ripper of a goal off of 2 steps from 50 (reminded a little of that ripper in 2010 against Geelong)... Was really good in that prelim playing loose across half back from the 3rd quarter onwards.

Has been on our list for 3 seasons and has had to learn the football game moving from basketball... Just think with 4 preseasons and 40 games that 2013 might be the season where Hendomania actually happens.

Agreed - it's easy to forget that he didn't grow up playing the game. Would love to see him off of a wing this year, but wouldn't surprise me to see him spend a large chunk of it up forward.

Didn't know that. So he started out playing footy - stopped, took up basketball - then went back to footy?

Pretty much. He presumably played both, then decided to focus on his basketball. At some point the Crows were tipped off about him, were happy with what they saw, and asked if he would consider a move to footy.

Compared to just trying out (from what I hear he was very good, but no certainty to make it as a professional basketballer), it must have been nice having a club say "we'll give you a guaranteed wage with enormous potential for growth".

This is actually his fifth year on the list, too. He was rookied at the end of the 2008 season.

As stabby said, he didn't take up basketball at 14, it's possible to play more than one sport at that age, in fact most kids that are into sport do. He just decided at about 14 to focus on basketball, which meant giving up footy.

Listed as 3-4 weeks on the AFL site

Reported that Smith has just re-commenced training ....thought that was a bit weird after 6 weeks

Wouldn't he have been able to run and do some drills? ......or are they meaning just joining full training (excepting competitive drills)??

Defender Brodie Smith is available to play in Balfours Showdown XXXIV at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.
Smith has overcome a fractured collarbone he sustained in Adelaide’s opening-round NAB Cup clash with Port Adelaide. The 21-year-old defender returned to full training last week and will be hoping to earn a recall to the Crows side this weekend.
Midfielder Aidan Riley experienced soreness early in Sturt’s win over the Port Magpies. Riley sat out the second half of the match, but should be fit to play this weekend.
Defender Sam Shaw didn’t play for SANFL club Glenelg because of a hamstring injury, which is currently being assessed by Adelaide’s medical staff. Rookie Jack Osborn’s transition to Australian Rules has been put on hold. The 205cm former basketballer requires hip surgery and will spend 12 weeks on the sidelines.
Adelaide will have a light open football session from approximately 10:30am on Saturday (April 13) on Max Basheer Reserve.

Mixed news there - good for Smith & Riley, bad (very) for Shaw & Osborn.

Would have thought they might have an idea about Shaw's injury by now - it having occurred a week ago. I guess they're waiting for the swelling to go down before taking a closer look at it.

Or holding back on releasing bad news...?
