I'd love him at the Saints however he's about 2 -4 years too old. We are after blokes born post '88' to fit in with our next 'premiership window.' He's looks to be an ideal type for you guys, its strange that he's up for trade. Definitely think he's worthy of pick around 20.

The only plausible reason to let Broughton go for little return would be personal issues with Lyon, or his underlying back injury is much more serious than the club wants to let on.

This 'back injury' has no substance -he was just overseas on a surfing holiday with JVB. Im sure RTB would never have approved of the trip if he had any underlining issues.

Really just think while yes, gregs a good player, we must have his types already in place and coming through - and if Ross thinks we can use it to leverage NEEDS from the draft, then I am comfortable with that. Basic form of transactional trading.

Is Ross pulling the strings? My understanding is its the list managers area and he would have the last say on the matter. Obviously Ross has a bit of input too.

He's actually a part of the list management committee made up himself, Chris Bond, Brad Lloyd, the Steves? (President and CEO) and some other people. He does have a say, but does not pull the strings, would like to think Freo are too sensible for that. Not sure how things were at St Kilda.

You may be right but I would hope the President of clubs would stay away from direct involvement in list management or on-field issues.

Exactly. I can see a fullback line of Broughton, McPharlin and McPhee as being premiership quality.
Well you won't see that as Macca plays CHB and McPhee has one more year left. On top of all that Broughts wasn't even played in defence last year, RTB does not rate down there.

Our defence got stingier as the season went on. Team defence overcame our previous deficiencies against small forwards.
Yeah, I'm not sure why this obsession with lockdown defenders persists in modern football. Furthermore, how many small forwards has Broughton actually stopped?

I agree, I was very surprised to hear that the two Steve's were fully involved in list management along with the two ex-player board members i.e O'Rielly and Allen.

I guess when you're talking contracts etc, the Pres needs to be involved as he'll be responsible at the end of the day if anything goes terribly wrong.

Sorry?

Really? Does that make him a match winner? Does it make him worthy of a first round draft pick?

No club in the league would pay higher pick 20 for Broughton. He's not that good.
In my opinion Broughton has not only won a match, but was the main reason we won an EF in 2010. Yes Grover and McPharlin were superb but Broughton cut off at least 5 or 6 uncontested marks the Hawks would have had if he was not playing.
The main reason we won is because we shut down that forward line. So yes Broughton is a match winner.

I also agree it's weird to have a president there but Bond did say in one of his radio interviews that both Steves are on their committee. Steve H probably bangs his fist on the desk every meeting and asks why aren't we recruiting tall Fijians with marketing potential?

I don't think Young's ever played forward before. I thought he was exclusively a wing or HBF?

If you play wing or HBF you are essentially a forward and midfielder in the modern game. He averaged nearly a goal a game a few seasons back and ranks among the highest in inside 50s due to his penetrating kicking. He was 4th for Inside 50s per game in 2012.

The West:
Fremantle defender Greg Broughton won't push for a trade but hasn't ruled out investigating interest from other clubs if they want to speak with him before Friday's trade deadline.
Broughton is contracted for 2013 but was the centre of trade speculation while holidaying overseas last week. Port Adelaide and St Kilda have been strongly linked with the back man, while North Melbourne has also been mentioned as a possible suitor.
He met his manager Gavin Jahn yesterday to discuss the situation but Broughton is yet to speak to other clubs. Jahn said the 26-year-old was happy at Fremantle so wouldn't be the one instigating trade talks.
"There's been a lot of speculation. I told him that yesterday (Monday) I spoke to a couple of clubs and today I was expecting a bit more, but I haven't got anything," Jahn said.
"He's got a contract so he can still play there. It's a waiting game at the moment to see what happens."

Well it is a matter of how the club rates him, it doesn't seem like they do, that article leads me to think he will be traded.

General consensus on the GCS board is no fricken way to pick 13 for Broughts. They are dead keen on an inside mid, but a pinch-hitting small defender/mid won't cut it. The more this shit goes on, the more I hope he stays.

rumour has it we are interested in Tayte Pears in the trade. any good?
According to a poster from the Essendon board, Pears has said that if Essendon offer him for trade he will refuse. Can't say how true that is but doesn't sound promising. Would probably be a good deal if he has a return to form.

I certainly would think about it if the Saints offered pick #25... having said that, if the suggestion mentioned in another thread that netted us #15 for Broughton, Jacobs and #31 to North for #15 and Broughton to Port for Jacobs and #31 was a reality, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Stranger things have happened. Richard Tambling

Stephen O'Reilly and Ben Allan

Rosich and Harris are both on it, I would suspect to be signing off on the financial side of the deals, while the others deal with the footy side
