A couple of further thoughts.

We should def. have salary cap room now (if Broughton's contract was back ended) to delist JA and replace with a draftee since we are obviously planning to draft three kids in (or very possibly trade for one in). With 3 def. coming in plus presume an upgrade for Clancee more delistings must be coming - by my count 2 which would be JA and Chricton.

McPhee last year now, Broughton gone and Roberton going who takes over the McPhee role next year (if injured) and 2014 onwards...

Broughton is a smart footballer who will provide plenty of rebound for GC. He was a starting 18 player for us but the show must go on.

We all watched Suban running sprints at Subi Oval (after the matches as the sub) so if there's ever a time for him to start running now, get the rig in working order and be able to play more than a quarter and a half...2013 is it!

I am looking forward to the club sacking Bond, Lloyd & the list management team next year for their "pathetic" efforts & FFC hiring a bunch of BF keyboard warriors to take over recruiting.
I have no doubt that if they do this FFC will get get Buddy in a FA deal for peanuts, maybe Jimmy Bartell as well. Chip Frawley will be traded to Freo for pick 146, which Melbourne will consider a bargain & Ibbo & Suban will be traded for picks 1 & 2.

Get it done Freo, you are sooooo pathetic if you don't.

Forster or Faulks if we keep him

I see what you did there....

Actually I am amazed they all played AFL games and at the quality of some (Montagna, Le Cras, Clarke).

could add Scotty Thompson and Todd Goldstein to that quality !
Still think Freo should have pressed harder to at least get an upgrade on our first rouder,#37 for Broughton is under value when compared with Dawes,Wellingham types
can only assume there are reasons for this trade, lack of opportunity ??disgruntled player ?? not fully buying into RTBs game plan ??injury concerns?? who knows, hopefully there is a master plan about to unvail itself

Can you stop taking the piss? Freo supporters have the right to be upset at this result.

Alot of talk that Broughton doesnt fit the plan, didnt buy in, didnt put out etc etc. Thats fine to move him on. The argument is that its taken 3wks and then we have thrown him away for unders. He was at the very least worth a pick in the 20's even 25-30.

We did not get value.

Why are people making comments like "Duffield, Spurr, Crichton etc" had no currency, and that's why we traded Broughton? Well, evidently Broughton did not have any trade currency, as we traded him for a bag of chips.

I look at GC's list, and while it is stocked with young talent ... a lot of that has yet to reach it's potential. In the next few years, I reckon a fit Broughton will be finishing in their top 5 in the B&F. For pick 37. What a joke.

And nor do you. The bottom line is we traded a best 22 player for pick 37 and the Eagles gave up pick 17 for Wellingham. Someone has gotten it wrong here. Three good players in the draft will make it all better, but they are under a lot of pressure now to get it right, because by even the most pro-Freo standards we gave away a very good player for a very poor return.

Nope, you are right I don't. But at least I have considered other scenarios other than FFC do not know what they are doing, everybody else's trades are better than ours, Bond & Lloyd are shit, oh woe is me. FFC are doomed.

I would have hoped we could have got a pick upgrade 17-13 and 37 for Broughton & 60. GC got a bargain. I'll certainly have Broughton in my DT team next year.

I'm looking forward to either Bond or Lloyd try to justify this pathetic trade in the media later today. Trading Broughton for peanuts isn't going to help us win a Premiership next year. Chris Dawes is apparently twice the player Greg is.

You see this is just way over the top. It's not like we're talking free-market currency based economy here, it's basically of no relevance what how any other trade compares. I posted on the main board, GC don't have anything else to give but pick 37. Let's for argument sake say he's worth pick 13 (which I don't think he is), well it doesn't matter because we weren't going to get it. If we were keen to get rid of him, well it would seem it was pick 37 or nothing. Secondly, keeping him might have been an option, but clearly there's good reason why Bond and co. are happy to see him go, almost pushing him out the door. We don't know the full reasons but there could be many good ones:

- his back issues are more serious than we think (I personally think this is highly likely)
- salary cap issues, maybe not today, but there may be some plans in place for next season
- coaching relational issues
- disciplinary issues that we don't know about

The list could go on. I rate Broughton as a player, and GC have paid unders, can't say I'm thrilled with it, but the system is what it is and you don't always get 'true value' for your players.

Yeah yeah we know clown prince, don't ever disagree with our management. Broughton for 37? You do the math. I assume they know what will be available around that area in the draft but it doesn't mean the trade was fair and equitable. hope he enjoys the surf on the Gold Coast anyway.

Probably got it done before we found out about it. :)
I don't actually mind the move. Some of the defenders needed to go and if broughton got a pick 37, ibbo, JA etc would have given us squat. GC were never going to give up pick 13, as fun as it was to think so. 37 was their next best. A lot of folks in here getting barred up about a lot of unknowns. Greg was universally liked, but if he didn't buy in like everyone else to an obviously effective game plan, so be it. I'll admire him watching GC, but the club has to go about its business.

Chris Dawes is actually worth a lot more than Broughton, Broughton type players can be found every year but to get KFP are much more difficult hence why we still haven't got a decent one after Pav. It's not just a matter of saying that they are a better player but if there are not many of them around you have to pay more for them.

As the saying goes, midfielders and flankers win medals, KPP get paid the big bucks......

My suggestion on the other thread that Broughton was on the table and Mitch Brown would have been a good swap doesn't look so silly now does it?

Umm, we could've swapped pick 17 for 13? That would've been a lot better. And how else do you calculate a players worth other than comparing to other trades that happen?

Looking back, it would've been great if the club packaged Broughton in the deal for Mitch Clark. He would've been playing in the same state.

Not likely.
I am amused no end at all the doomsday theorists on here that think FFC are now doomed to never ending seasons of mediocrity because we traded a good, solid player (which is what Greg is, a good, solid player, not a star & not IMFO a first start 22 player.)
But you feel free to keep smashing your keyboard in frustration over it if it makes you feel better about it.
I will just keep chuckling along, not knowing what either tomorrow or the 2013 AFL season will bring.

I promised myself not to make any comments until the trade period concluded, however, cannot contain my disappointment at this trade (on a surface level). I hope FFC has not just some good reasoning, but some good practical outcomes resulting from this decision.
