I like the sound of this Squiggystein. He may be a little light on but nothing that Weber can't fix. Is he quick?

Just done a PB with the Gnowangerup Bulldogs .....that PB was half a carton in hour though.

2nd peice of info I gleaned this week...reliable source.

Browne will 'again' be a Docker in 2009 :thumbsd:

Contract extension for Andrew Browne
By Luke Morfesse,
3:37 PM Fri 17 October, 2008

Fremantle midfielder Andrew Browne has agreed to a one-year contract extension for 2009.

The 24-year-old is the final member of the current list to re-sign with Fremantle for 2009, leaving the club with a total of 30 contracted players on the main list and two contracted rookies ahead of the national, pre-season and rookie drafts.

General manager of football operations Chris Bond said the club will be adding 14 new players to the list, including eight players via the national or pre-season drafts and six via the rookie draft.

Bond said that Fremantle will have six picks at 56 and under in the NAB AFL draft in November.

“That puts the club in a great position to reinvigorate our playing list,” he said.

“The six picks at 56 and under are at 3, 21, 24, 37, 53 and 56.”

Bond said that Fremantle had four picks under 56 in the 2007 National Draft, when the club secured Rhys Palmer (7), Clayton Hinkley (24), Chris Mayne (40) and Mark Johnson (55). Kepler Bradley was selected at pick 69.

“For the first time since 2003, Fremantle will have the benefit of three picks at 24 and under in the National Draft,” he said.

“The importance of having those three picks in the first two rounds is a real plus, more so when you consider that with the concessions granted to the new Gold Coast team and West Sydney in the future, the 2008 National Draft will be the last uncompromised draft for some time.”

Browne was Fremantle's fourth selection (no. 52 overall) in the 2001 National Draft, and made his debut in Fremantle's after-the-siren win against Melbourne at Subiaco in round 8, 2002.

In 2004, he played 14 games and stamped himself as a player of the future by taking out the Beacon Award as the club's best new talent.

Although injuries have interrupted his progress in recent seasons, Browne’s consistent form with Claremont in 2007 and 2008 showed he still has much to offer at the highest level.

With a career tally of 27 matches for Fremantle, Browne played five games in the latter stages of 2008, returning to the line-up in round 15 against Geelong following a series of solid games for Claremont in the WAFL.

Meanwhile, 2008 rookie list players Calib Mourish and Chris Smith have been delisted.

well there you go, end of discussion. personally im glad we kept browney, i think when fit he offers a bit.

best news of that whole article.... NO MORE MOURISH!!!!!!!!! :):thumbsu::):thumbsu::):thumbsu:

seriously the guy was a disgrace, now all we have to do is get rid of dodd and gilmore and we will start to look like we will have a list :thumbsu:

I don't understand the hate some on this board have for Dodd.

He might not be a superstar but he's one of the few players you can count on giving his all for the jumper every time. Especially during the CC era.

I'm not going to be upset if someone like Drum continues to improve and pushes him out of the team but there's no way Dodd is delist material.

dodd is a good role player, gives alot of flexibiity with match ups. not the great player but he defensive work is first class.

Realistically with all the retirements and delistings you had to expect a guy like Browne to be given another crack, plus we forget he is still only 24.

I like Browne, i think he works extremely hard and if anything the club are repaying that while they can afford to.

Glad Mourish is gone, Smith probably never would have cracked the team with guys like Crowley and Hinkley in it.

Interesting to see how we will find 6 players in the PSD though?

Hoping Matt Moody will be one of them

Bloody oath. Dodd has been consistently good for a few years now. At his best is a terrific negating defender and would be the best spoiler in our backline. Plays his heart out and would be one of the first picked every week for mine.

Congrats to Browne. Lets hope he can get on the paddock for a few in a row and show what he can do.

Hate to agree with an Eagles supporter particularly on matters concerning our Club but something is wrong when we hang on to non performing crocks such as Browne.

Its simply confirmation that the likelihood of drafting a player with our round 8 pick that can contribute if necessary next year is very low.

Depth was always going to be an issue next year with so many retirements and delistings. Whilst they are in effect doing a full rebuild the club wants to be competitive and not absolutely bomb out if we get a few injuries to our top 26.

Shark, that would be a fair argument (and no doubt the one the club is running with) if the likelihood of Browne contributing next year was greater than very low.

He had a good 2nd half of the season injury wise.

Agreed. The likelihood of Browne contributing next year is far, far more likely than what a round 8 pick will deliver. With fitness and confidence, he's capable. At least when he plays WAFL he absolutely kills it. That's more than can be said for the Thornton and Peake who struggle at WAFL level then get an AFL game the following week??

Letting those guys play week in week out, plus giving them contract extensions (Thornton) is more concerning to me than taking a punt on Browne.

I would hope that these players have been told exactly where their futures lie and to extract their digits or they're 2 of the three to get delisted.

Chook, Browne wouldnt play I would hope unless his form or injuries warranted it. But he would be of more help than throwing an underweight young kid into the game and risk him getting injured.

Browne has never ever contributed anything and never will. I would of rather a draft pick at least they would have a chance to contribute something even if it is just a 5% chance.

We have been too soft on injury prone players for far to long. Why players like Browne and Haines stayed on the list for so long I dont know. The only player you can excuse is Haddrill as he had proven he was quality.

Finished Runner Up in the Claremont B&F, playing only 10 games...

Averaged 24.6 touches with them this year, if he played a full season in the WAFL would easily win the Sandover.

But to have only played 91 matches (64 with CFC and 27 with Fremantle) since 2002, doesnt there come a time when you have to be delisted..
That is a pretty damning statistic.

7 years at 22 games p/yr = 154 games.
+ approximately 10 finals (Freo + Tigers).
Total = 164 games.
To have missed 73 games out of a possible 164 odd, due to injury (and suspension?) is shocking.
That means he only plays about 55% of games. Incredible.

How he is a depth player I do not know. I would have preferred we took a punt on any number of other players in the ND (including other club's delistings).

Oh well, here's hoping he can stay on the park and convert that WAFL form of last season into a meaningful contribution for Fremantle next year.
