In a startling new development in this year's brownlow race, Gary Ablett jnr is expected to declare his voting finished for the year. It is believed he has enough votes already this season to secure the coveted medal.

It is believed Ablett will look to bank his votes for the 2009 season. Many experts believe he'll have the 2009 medal covered by season's end as well.

When quizzed on the suggestion, Ablett said "Yeah, look the votes were coming off the middle pretty well. I managed to squeeze a few out to the boundary to pick a few lucky 3's - we think we have enough in the bank, so we are going to put 'em in and hopefully get a few early wickets and put them under real pressure".

When one confused commentator asked which sport Ablett was referring to, Ablett stated "Does is matter? Might as well be golf because I'd be sh1t hot at that as well"

Forgive me my sins - just a bit delirious from having a newborn and not getting much sleep. Thought i'd put my take on how close I think this year's brownlow will be!!

good for a laugh, well done. in all seriousness though, i hope the little fella wins it, he's so deserving and his old man always deserved one as well.

not sure he did - it has always been a fairest and best award - not something the like of ablett snr, mathews, carey etc are ever likely to win

umpires weren't kind to gazza last year. I thought he clearly deserved it. Hopefully he gets over the line this year because he certainly deserves it.

And in other news scientists in Corio are going to attempt to grow the ear of a mouse on Garry Ablett Jnr's back. They will first remove Kane Cornes by boganectomy...

thinking about each of the games this year, and being conservative (is gave jimmy the 3 for essendon rd2), i predict him to be on 19 votes so far.

I thought Brent Harvey would win last year but I had money on Bartel to poll the most votes for Geelong. I didn't think Ablett would win.

I think a lot of people go on the various media awards to project the brownlow and the media get caught up in the hype when players are on a "hot streak". Last year Ablett got lots of votes from the Herald Sun when I didn't think he deserved them (or deserved as many). My case in point this year is Adam Cooney. On the weekend against Collingwood ABC radio mentioned that Cooney was not in the top 10 players on the field for effectiveness but the next day I opened the paper up and the herald sun had given either 3 or 4 votes.

This year I think Ablett has lifted to another level, in a team that despite losing only one game has struggled at times, so if he stays fit and in form he should absolutely piss it in this year.

Very good post and I agree 100%. I tried to say this on the Geelong Board last year regarding Ablett and people giving him BOG when he would be lucky to get one or two votes in the BigFooty B&F but I got laughed at :(

I think it's pretty safe to assume that Gaz needed last year before he could win this year.

Jimmy absolutely deserved the Brownlow last year (in fact many Cat fans are on his back a lil this year but if you look at the Champ. Data stats you'll see he's actually not too far off the mark again)

But the simple fact is umps need time to warm to a guy playing in a certain spot. It took them a few rounds to get used to Gaz in the middle.

That's why I'm not 100% sold on Cooney's chances yet. Yes, he's always played in the middle but he hasn't grabbed a chunk of votes in the past. West has ... I think Cross will poll well from the WB, along w Aker. But Coondawg aint proven.

Simon Black on the other hand ...

They, or should I say we/Gaz won't have those dilemmas this time round. The umps have known he's been in the guts from R1. And as soon as he gets the pill, it's human nature that they think 'oh there's Gary Ablett with the ball again, gee he's a good player isn't he'

Last yr he was the fwd pocket who ran on the ball a fair bit.

This yr he's the bona fide midfield star. That, my friends, along with all the media hype - and of course simply how much he's carving it up! - will be the difference.

Perhaps the fact that he is sh1t hot will be enough me thinks

the only challenge i see is Richo Richo man - because he has been playing guts, getting attention - and the big fella stands out on the wing

I hope it's a bit more than that. I hope they actually see what he does with it time and time again, because it's the consistancy of what he does with it ( as opposed to just having it) that makes him so special.

I agree with the above poster as well in thinking that Richo will be his closest second if both their forms persist.

Dunno about this, I don't reckon Richmond will win enough games - hard to get the 3 votes in a losing side.
