If the AFL had prosecuted Carlton further once the Williams/ATO verdict was known, Carlton would have been in the hands of liquidators and the then current Sports Minister for Victoria would have been shown to have participated in a fraud. As it was the opposition were calling for an inquiry.
The AFL have swept things under the carpet with a lot less on the line.
Reality is in 50 years we'll still have Essendon supporters arguing they didn't dope their players and Carlton supporters arguing they didn't cheat when they won their last premiership in 1995.
The rest of us will just continue to roll our eyes.
