Hird, Voss and Buckley. All three coaches were beloved players from their clubs, all three had no where near the experience they needed to warrant a senior coaching position but all three got those positions because of how good they were as players, and yet all three have completely screwed up their clubs in different ways, 2 are gone, and the other will be gone shortly. Any AFL club that tries to hire a former legend of their club that had almost no coaching experience deserve whatever pain their club gets.

Has zero support and his midfield isn't helping him either. Shot of all confidence.

His kicking action is absolute dog shit as well. How have they not tried to fix it yet?

Yep, too much weight and expectation placed on him too early. Good news is we'll be due a flag in about 12 years if history is repeating

True & he was also the only coach in recent times appointed by supporters of the club.

Plenty have been sacked because of supporter pressure, not many hired because of it.

Buckley was hired because of one prominent supporter (who still supports him). We've seen that before and it never ends well (Tim Watson at St Kilda a classic example).

His kicking action is pretty textbook, in terms of kicking through the ball and following through.

He's consistently aggressive and decisive with his movement and attack on the ball, something Fraser never was.

I doubt too many other forwards would be getting touches and kicking goals with the kind of putrid service Moore got today.

Aside from the bizarre decision to park Levi Greenwood at half forward, instead of having him tag someone, the issue today wasn't as much coaching, but on-field decision-making and skill execution. Same old story when the Pies lose - long bombs to nobody, and handballing to teammates with the opposition on their hammer, leading them straight into tackles or fumbles and turnovers.

Yes they have, but neither are coaching their former club, and neither could be considered club legends. They got their jobs on merit, rather than off the coattails of their playing careers.

Everytime I see Moore kick for goal this year it reminds me of Roughy about 7-8 years ago when he had the yips and was bereft of confidence. Kept leaning back into the kick and stabbing it rather than smashing through it. Could still hit a target 50 metres on the tit but when in front of goal something just goes into these young players heads.

I might just be focusing too much on the misses though.

Round 16 2011 Collingwood was on top of the ladder with a percentage over 180%

They beat some pretty easy opponents up until getting smashed by Geelong by 96 points in the last round of the year.

Just when Collingwood should have been concentrating on winning back to back premierships all the talk was about the transition from Malthouse to Buckley. Malthouse did his thing and spread rumours through the media and in the end Collingwood failed to finish off the most impressive post premiership season of any team in living memory.

Eddie, by sticking with a plan gained one premiership for his club, but sticking hard to the plan cost him at least one more premiership and threatens to send the Pies off on a decade plus period away from threatening for the flag.

For the club to get back on track they need to do the brave thing and get rid of Eddie and Buckley and start again.

If they stick with both then they risk plunging the club into chaos.

I'm a bit sick of this myth that Collingwood were or should have been still "on the up" towards the end of 2011. The 2011 PF was a pretty clear end-point to that era. Malthouse and the players had nothing left to give after that match. Go watch the last few minutes on YouTube, with Malthouse with tears in his eyes at the end. I for one went into watching the GF next week expecting to lose, and being ok with it.

I feel results would have been the same if Mick had stayed on, but he likely wouldn't have been as forward trading out and retiring "his boys", which would have seen us looking very middle-aged and mediocre list-wise going forward.

Paul Roos at least had half the season as the stand in coach after Eade resigned/sacked.

And he did well there.
