But then in the 2nd round we ignore Grigg (who is taken 2 picks later) and take Paul Stewart.

Why would we potentially take a player at 14 and not at 32 if he is still available then. Logic?

I am not sure....Is grigg even picked up. Grigg is basically a Knights clone... gets tonnes of the ball but his disposal is iffy.

Apparently Proud didn't do that well in the interviews at DC. ALso he got into a brawl at the U18 championships so he is expected to slide.

Disagree with that. He's the best there is at predicting where a player will go, but would have hardly seen any of these kids play, and it wouldn't surprise me if he got a few of his descriptions of players from BF.

Edwards and Houlihan are big chances of going as predicted by Burgan.

His player descriptions don't seem to be particularly grand anyway. Mostly just a vague sentence or two.

If he hasn't seen them play very much then any respect I have for him quickly goes down the drain. Effectively tells one that he is purely feeling for his selections and is just bloody good at it.

There are actually ppl on this forum who go out to underage games every week and have done for years, take notes, take stats and also get tapes and watch them over and over.

I hope Sellar's "bad" year helps him slide to us at 14 ,if we snaggled him the nexts picks could go to my mum and then Bob Francis!! Mind you I think Burga's description of my mum was harsh, her disposal on her left has improved heaps over the last few years. Jim Mead with the next pick, pass on the rest.

At 190cm he is a good height to be a tall utility. He has pace and a good left foot kick

If we get him with our picks we will have done very well.

He is underrated by many people - but not me.

still think reid would be a good bet, his only real question mark was his weight, and since earlier this year he seems to have put a fair bit on. He's tall with great speed over 20m and can take a strong mark.

murphy is 178 cms.
so is douglas.

that's the same 5'10 you're talking about.

6 - HAWTHORN - JAMES SELLAR

Seriously considered a number one draft selection throughout the past year, Sellar will be snapped up by the Hawks, if Gibbs, Gumbleton, Hansen, Selwood and Leuenberger provide the nucleus of the 'top five' picks. And Hawthorn will be delighted if it can land Sellar with its opening selection, should that scenario pan out. But if Sellar is snapped up with Port Adelaide's first pick - just one before the Hawks - expect Leuenberger to be in Hawthorn's mix, while Thorp, Selwood and Boak are also part of the brown and gold's thinking. Interestingly, should the Hawks select an alternate to Sellar, there is some chance that the South Australian could slip as far as No.14, with the way the cards are falling. If that occurs, there will be no doubt Adelaide will pounce on the local lad with its first choice.

Highlights/achievements: Ruckman or key forward with a terrific vertical leap he uses to his advantage at stoppages and marking contests. Sheehan medal in 2005 NAB AFL U16 national championships. Nearly all the players he nominated were drafted, although not necessarily always by the club he nominated or in the correct position.

That would have been impossible to do.

The first 50 players in his phantom draft were all drafted, and it was only in the tail end charlies that a handful of his selections weren't drafted.

He does a damn good job IMO.

I agree. He does a great job all-round. Hardly ever gets the club/pick right, but always pretty much nails who gets drafted. You gotta hand it to him.

When you consider the number of fans griping that he'd given them the wrong "type" of players - particularly Adelaide, Collingwood and Footscray, he really only got Adelaide wrong.

He predicted Collingwood would go tall, fans said they needed inside midfielders. Collingwood went tall.

He predicted Footscray would go for more members of the mosquito fleet. Fans said they'd go tall. Everitt aside, they went small.

Adelaide are pretty much the only one where he was way off the mark.
