Butch has been given more than enough time to prove himself. There is 0 point in rookie listing him either. We tried, it didn't work, so lets move on.

To rookie list Butcher we have to delist him and he enters the draft pool. If we were to lose Schulz and decide we might like to keep Butcher would we risk delisting him and waiting for 80 picks (say) over National, Pre-season and early rookie drafts to select him? And what if there was a young player in the first round of the rookie draft we loved?
Do you want us to keep Butcher?
If it's KPF security you're worried about there's lads on the list that offer what JB does. (Shaw, Harvey, Howard and Austin)

Doesn't matter what I want. I'm just asking the question.

Understand that but do you want us to keep Butcher?

Again it's not a matter of whether I want us to, it's what is beneficial to list management. If we recruit another tall forward - say Carlisle - then Butch's time is done whether Schulz stays or goes.

If Schulz goes and we can't get another tall forward to the club with some AFL readiness/maturity then I would keep Butcher and continue the development of Harvey, Shaw and Howard. Freo have shown how hard it is to lever good key forwards out of clubs (although the tyranny of distance defeats them too).

Keeping Butch will just delay the development of our other KPF irrespective of what happens with Schulz.

So you are admitting you'd rather an inferior player than Butcher?

How balanced and reasonable.
Was being kind to Butch but really
I think Majak Daw would be a good player for the Magpies. I don't think either of them are AFL players.

The presence of Butcher only has that effect if the coaches choose him. Even in the reserves Harvey, Howard and Frampton are being preferred as forwards to help their development as a forward. You are laying responsibility at the wrong feet.

I wish I could laugh but I'd hardly call Butch an experienced AFL player.

Butcher has performed at a level that Shaw, Harvey and Frampton can only dream about.

It's not his fault we're the only club in the league that doesn't believe in committing to giving a young key forward a serious run in the team - and wearing the resulting ups and downs - in order to allow them to develop.

Listening to Hird's post game presser last week, he was talking about how Daniher and his kicking.
He mentioned how he's only played 40 something games and needing to back in your young forwards so they can develop.
I wish our coaching staff had felt that way about Butcher.

Butcher has had the most horrid ball drop I've ever seen on a forward at AFL level - it hasn't changed in 5 years.

There's allowing players to develop but even those players need to play to a certain minimum standard to hold their spot.

It's everyone else's fault except Butchers...

Carn DT

Seriously. Most young keys, even highly-rated ones, have faults that they can only work through with experience and repetition at the highest level.

There are loads of examples of guys who have comparable and inferior stats to Butch after the same number of games.

The difference being JoBu is always on a hiding to nothing while his contemporaries were cut the requisite slack.

I don't disagree.... And your previous comment regarding the level he's played at in comparison to our rooks is correct.

But you don't just become good cause you get a game. A lot of his deficiencies are on him. That's all I was saying.

7 disposals, 3 marks, 1 goal, 1 goal assist, 2 tackles vs Freo in Round One.

Dropped for Redden who spent the past 2 years playing FIFA.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You have to consider at this stage that the coaches have been working with him on running patterns, goalkicking, body language, marking etc etc. If he's not responding or developing, what are they supposed to do?

Give him a fair run in the ones when he was still a viable concern.

The ship's sailed now, but thankfully we've maintained our good form and forward structure without him/a second key big.

Are there any hack former first rounder KPFs who can magically turn their careers around available for peanuts? That's how everyone does it right?

Provided we can't get a Jack Riewoldt/Tom Lynch slider in this year's draft it's time to pay overs for Les Xon or Lan Son.
