The only way we are going to learn is playing him week in, week out. Many KPF played as much as possible in their early seasons, despite their ups and their downs, well in to the teens to maximum 22 games a year. Butcher has never had more than 8 total in a season. Calls that we've already seen enough are ridiculous
Have you guys saying that playing in defence would boost his confidence ever actually played in defence? Nothing is worse for your confidence than having goals scored on you.

I genuinely couldn't agree more. I played full back for 4 years prior to this season (decided I didn't want to play this year as I enjoy watching more than playing) and the few times that I played really poorly, I was down on myself for weeks. In comparison to playing poorly up forward, it's far worse.Have you guys saying that playing in defence would boost his confidence ever actually played in defence? Moving Butch would work form many reasons. Its easier to be a backman for starters if your fast and can punch people in the back of the head you are half way there. Mostly it would teach him to play the game he isnt learning anything at the moment with the pressure of being a forward he is running around not getting the ball. As a defender he wont have someone shadowing him and spoiling every attempt he can use his judgement and athletism to get the ball and then learn to use it. That will build confidence then he can try up forward again..but as a key forward he is behind shultz, westhoff, redden, lobbe and probably trengove and bobby carlisle.I dont see how that would work though.....
If I was hired for a particular job and got shifted "sideways" it wouldnt build my confidence

yep
Hawkins and Cloke were both slow to develop. Even our Westhoff took a long time.
You are assuming he will do ok as a backmen....imagine if he has scores kicked on him.....his confidence shot at the moment as a fwd if it happens when he is down back he may never recoverMoving Butch would work form many reasons. ....
But, it has to be taken into account that he had more than a dozen chances on the lead against the gay bays and muffed virtually all of them, by leading too early and being forced to double back, or too late, and too hard and ran under the ball.....
I suspect by next year we will at least have someone else who can play a key position role for us up forward. At that point Butcher's spot on the list gets pretty shaky if he hasn't improved. I don't know if Harvey or Mason Shaw will be good enough to push him out by the end of this year, or even next year. But you would think Redden would be a chance to replace him this year when he comes back from injury.Turns 23 in July. Younger than both Pittard and Moore (same draft) and less games. He still has time IMO.

Josh Carr was chatting with Butch and Robbie Gray. Wingard, Youngy and a few others were pinging shots at goal.
