There is nothing wrong with Butcher's actual kicking style and so there is no need to change it - it is all in the ball drop. That can be fixed in a full pre-season with no injury/operation interruption.

Amen!

And how many of those kicks were set shots?? he kicked a lot of those early goals on the run or snaps. his problem is his ball drop and confidence. those terrible shanks against geelong, he was holding the ball like he was trying to strangle it.
This is it.......

I don't have the cosnfidence people have that we can improve his kicking but we will see

Cricketers, golfers, squash/tennis players etc, etc can change their technique. I would argue that those sports are a great deal more technical than kicking a footy.

Butchers kicking can be fixed quite easily and quickly.

Compared to say what kane cornes gets on here this butch thread is nothing...

I still don't mind butch I want to keep persisting with him...but I can understand frustrations with him

Frustrations are one thing which I can completely understand as Butch has barely shown much recently. Where it gets frustrating for me is when he gets called a spud ( or worse a *******). Most people could understand why a 22 yo KPP with zero fitness/confidence due to zero preseasons is struggling.

If he cant get his body right he will eventually be moved on. If he gets his body right and still doesnt show something he will eventually be moved on.

Why people continue to write off young tall players when history shows that so many of them take a long time to develop into anything decent is beyond me.

I've said it before I'll say it again, patience isnt a virtue around these here parts.

.....maybe we should sit around a campfire and sing coombiya for him...

I'd agree with you if he hadn't battled nothing but back and hip injuries since he got here.

Judge him after he's gotten through next preseason unscathed.

An injury free year. A good preseason. Will do wonders. I think both hips were worked on. His running action has changed as a result and I bet so has his kicking. Time and practice will fix. Can mark when confident, soon it will be can kick. I have faith.

If Pearce Hanley can learn how to kick...

Zach Tuohy couldn't hit the side of a barn when he first came over. Now he's just about automatic from 50 metres out on the run.

Perhaps he had his tonsils out.
