The very WAFL stats that have seen 23-25yo Kane "Sandover" Mitchell play 29 out of a possible 61 AFL games in two and a half years without ever producing the AFL stats that 21yo Banner did in the back-end of 2011.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I agree, we should trade Mitchell for Banner post haste.

I thought today would have been the ideal time to play Butch up forward, but as soon as I saw him line up in defence, and Paul Stewart line up near the attacking goal square I thought wtf. o_O

Any doubt I may have had that his cards have been marked were dispelled today.

Than why aren't we planning for our future post Schulz? Or does Ken expect him to play forever? We already he won't rest him when he's injured.

Yeah, Clearly Butch was supposed to fill that hole.. but in addition we recruited Mason Shaw, Mitch Harvey and Dougal Howard.. they're just not ready yet

So I just woke up, checked stats for the game.
-11 disposals
-1 goal
-2 Frees against

This is the guy you are asking to be gifted some AFL games, all this talk about best 22 "gold passes and gifting games", well giving him an AFL game is a gift of the highest order.
Jesus Christ.

Harvey
-10 disposals
-2 and a behind
-1 Free against

Some people just dont make it no matter how high their draft pick is, or how much "potential" they have.

What's the point of the comparison? The stats are fairly even.

If we are going to be choosing who the next KPF is, why not go with the younger one that hasn't had a chance.
Than the older one who has blown his chances?

Because one has demonstrated form at AFL level, last year of a contract, and the best physical shape to step in to AFL football in case of an emergency in 2015. Instead of waiting for the emergency, just go now.

Harvey will get his chance. He's not going anywhere.

Haha are you comparing the stats of a key forward who played 85% in the back lines to a key forward who played 85% in the forward lines... And their stats are almost identical?

Harvey's two goals, if they had been kicked by Butch, would have been shot down for "not being the right kind of goals".

- Left alone by himself in the goal square.
- Kicked straight to him with a shank by Jake Lever.

It's crazy the inconsistency some people have with the players on our list.

Yep as discussed with you at Alberton today '54, I think you are right that Butcher has a line through his name. Playing all day in defence means they dont see a future for him as a forward and if he cant produce some outstanding stuff at FB/CHB, Johhny will be leaving Alberton. Sad but its the only way I can read why he was payed the way he was today.

It seemed odd to play him back in a game where their forwards killed us. Either they thought he was the best option to quell that, or they were happy to lose the game, which would be completely unacceptable to me. Stick him on the pine FFS if you really have made your mind up. Don't drag the team down and the loyal supporters.

Or, again, they think he was the best option as a KPD.

Bizzare either way.

Something else I noticed with John Butcher was that he had some type of strapping from mid thigh to low on the calf on his left leg.
He has always worn some type of leg bandage from day 1, but I go to most Alberton games and I can't recall seeing him strapped up like that before.

Has had some knee trouble including swelling behind the knee this year.

Maybe the wrong thread but who was magpies second key forward yesterday?
I don't remember shaw being out there

These guys haven't come on. Butch no chance. Harvey very little but has some time. Harvey's lack of athletic ability is a concern

Would have liked to have seen Butch back in the forward lines for a while. He wasn't doing anything in the backlines and a chance for a few marks could have done something for his confidence. Now after a relatively good game against West he's gone back into his shell.

Righhto dougal how could i forget

Now that you mention it

He has played more down back that butcher has as a junior

Why don't they're roles swap? Who says we have to develop butcher into a number 1 target, what if he could become a good number 2/3 target and learn those running methods?

Levi Casbault's stats from AFL tables.

He's 25 and is only just starting to look like a key forward. He was picked up at pick #44 in the 2010 rookie draft. Unless they are obvious superstars, building a KPF is a bloody serious, slow process. 5 years from a pick to a reasonable prospect is about what it takes. Harvey should be ready in 2019 then.

If there's anything we should learn from the Great John Butcher Debate it is that we have to be patient.
