As much as I love the Butch and am convinced his issues are 100% mental and based around performance anxiety (there's a joke in there), the ensuing meltdown that would result on Thursday if Butch is dropped would make for glorious reading.

Just for the record, from this week's 'All The Goals' video:

- He assisted our second goal, with a centring snap to Ah Chee at the top of the goal square.
- Crashed the pack (taking out Patfull, who was on Robbie Gray at the time) to set up our seventh goal, easy pick up and quick kick for Robbie Gray.
- Kicked our twelfth to put as ahead, which happened to feature as the TyrePower play of the week.
- Crashed the pack, which allowed Wingard to (freakishly) crumb the pack and kick our fourteenth.
- Takes front spot in the contest and brings the ball to ground (mainly because he was being held by his opponent) where Wingard is waiting, who snaps our fifteenth.

Pretty decent for a 25-game KPF.

With the first one, he was also the one that got the ball to ground in the first place, remained on his feet and then when it popped out of the contest centred the ball.

Butcher played well. He got one of the lowest "scores" in the game overall in terms of Dream Team points, but who cares. What he actually did was good enough to be considered for another game. And as most other people have said in the thread, you feel good when the guy does well. Like you genuinely want him to succeed. The crowd went mental for him, and when he nearly took that mark towards the end of the game (he knocked the ball away), you could actually almost hear the crowd ready to unglue. Hopefully he won't be followed around with douchebags that say "worst kick in the league". Then again, that's mostly Facebook morons on the AFL memes page. Christ, what a disgrace those "fans" are.

By the way, here's a really cool video of another angle of his goal:

You know, if I could liken his career/reputation to anyone it'd be Justin Koschitzke.

Different types of players obviously and the former Saint got far more opportunities over the journey, but between the high pick, massive expectations, tantalising glimpses of greatness, incessant injury, unfair comparisons to contemporaries and overemphasis on weaknesses, the two are quite similar in that regard.

If anyone else delivered that performance after a 20-game spell - even with the couple of dodgy shots for goal - no-one walks away unhappy and there's almost universal hope for

But because it's Butcher, his detractors fixate on the couple of dodgy shots, his defenders emphasise the good and the rest remain resigned to apathy that he'll be dropped/delisted anyway.

He had a massive hand in 5 of our goals and kicked a crucial one himself - and this is before we factor in the importance of him scattering the likes of Patfull and Davis like nine-pins.

If that was Schulz (let alone Shaw or Harvey) contributing like that everyone'd be creaming their tazmanian devil davenports.

WE WANT THE FIST PUMP!!!

:D
Finally got around to it. :thumbsu:

another preseason in the gym and he could be a FF.

stay as he is and he could be a Westhoff

Have been a strong supporter of Butcher over the years and the double hip surgery seemed to have hampered him. I cheered the loudest I could when he goaled. He did one thing that our forwards have been incapable of doing, legitimately going for the ball and hurting the defence physically. Watched the replay, and there were at least three players he softened up. I do not know where he is at. I say play him for the rest of the year and let's find out.

It may be heresy to suggest this...Butch must play even if Schultz is available. Either they both play or Butcher plays in his place.

Hear me out.

If Schultz leaves we have to get used to playing without him. If he stays his body could do with a rest going into next year.

What the worst that could happen? We miss out on the finals?

Butch could potentially be another Westhoff type. Westhoff is approaching thirty, and, it is worth remembering, was almost as frustrating a player as Butch minus the injuries (and the ball drop) pre 2013 when he was earmarked as a stay at home tall forward. I'm not sure butch is going to be a stay at home forward at least in the near future. He loves to be involved in the play and, like Westhoff, is tall and mobile and hard to match up on. His mark and kick on goal had more to do with hard running than great forward play.

There is really noone else on our list who looks to be able to add what Westhoff does to our side. He is probably worth retaining in the side and on the list for that reason alone.

No one has ever been as frustrating as Butcher. He is not going to make it.

I dunno, your everlasting pessimistic bullshit is pretty frustrating...

This is such a boring and short sighted opinion.

Can't wait for the triumphant "I told you so" posts if and when he is delisted from you and the people who share your opinion. What a fun day on bigfootball that will be.

Well why don't you talk pros and deficiancies about both Butcher and Schulz.
By the way I think Schulz is a champion and we are lucky to have him but it's not as one sided as some think.
Could Schulz have got the goal Butcher kicked on the weekend? Unlikely.

Yeah.

If he gets picked this week he could well disappoint/fail in what is a mammoth degree of difficulty for all concerned.

But what if he replicates his first-up performance of last week and actually builds on it? Kicks a couple and is responsible for Wingard, Ah Chee and Gray hitting the scoreboard with his general bullocking and packbusting?

It's certainly possible. We all saw it.
