Our forward structure has been abysmal this year yet we weren't that far off the mark. Number one priority next year is to get the cattle and get it right.

Our forward structure <when Butcher has not played> has been abysmal this year yet we weren't that far off the mark. Number one priority next year is to get the cattle and get it right.
People will shout me down for this, but I think we can learn a bit from the Crows forward structure this year and especially the role played by Tom Lynch.
If we get Dixon, then I'd like us to work on Butcher developing into an old-fashioned Darren Smith type CHF, who works hard enough up the ground to link with his teammates and provide avenues out of defence, but also creates goal assists in the forward 50.
If less emphasis was placed on Butcher's kicking and more on his leading (which needs work), roaming and general work rate, then I believe he could still be a valuable commodity for us playing higher up the ground.
Agree for sure. Butcher is never going to be the one we rely on as the main goalkicker, but as that 'link', has possibilities. This is the role I've been wanting Westhoff to play! He has the motor, but is more intent on running around everywhere rather than lock down a leading half forward link role. I agree though I think this role suits Butcher as it would alleviate the need for him to worry about goal kicking as hopefully he would be leading up and getting most of this possessions out of scoring range and linking the ball from defensive 50 to forward 50.

Fair enoughHe can't be a forward and be used to hide his major deficiency in his kicking. It's over for him, he tries hard, can't fault his effort but it's been 6/7 years now. It's over for him we can all see it. Any other player who had shown this lack of improvement everyone would be all over that player. Enough is enough.
Stoked he kicked that.
A sign that he needs to be kept.
