Big bunch of meh.

To go from also-rans to real contenders you need to take opportunities when it presents itself

When opportunity to really excel is put in front of us we wilt.

The finals last year were great but it translated to nothing, we learnt nothing.

There has been no burning in the guts after the horror Prelim. Instead of forwards we've regressed.

Beyond the mid point in the season and we've pissed opportunity up against the wall, again.

My opinion is now that we can go no further in finals with Brad, and Brad can go no further in finals with us.

The ultimate worst case scenario here is we make finals and on the back of that we chop our list in some misguided idea that 2016 will bring a flag with it.

With our mental weakness we will not win a flag we just do not take the opportunity that comes to us.

If we had the same W/L record but lost through having a proper crack and best 22 selected each week, I wouldn't be as disappointed.

Case in point, we have had many disappointing losses and we're only at the halfway point of the season. Sadly, team selection has not reflected this.

I'm not talking about dropping the entire team but players like Gibson/Atley have had extended runs of bad form without penalty (I'm not counting the game he was dropped) Meanwhile guys like Ben Brown/Maj/Froggy wondering what they have to do cement a spot in the side, especially considering their form and age when the more senior players aren't extracting the digit.

That's not the recruiters, thats not Walshy, the buck stops with Brad who as coach has the final say.

Plain and simple, standards are not being met and players are not being punished for not meeting them. We have banged on about this fact for the past 18 months and it has been illustrated perfectly this season.

There's a few questions I'd like Brad to answer and they are:

1. What are the standards and non negotiables you have set?

2. What is your solution and have you been doing when those standards aren't met?

3. What have been the goals of this group and what is the rough timeline you expect to reach them?

I daresay the overall resposne to those questions would be extremely underwhelming and he hasnt given us much to go on regarding them his entire reign as coach. The answers enough would be enough to turn the most loyal of his supporters.

He can be given a pass for the first 3-4 years for letting the list gel, players develop and understand the way they want to play, I have no issue staying the course over that period.

We are now in year 6, and the team has confused as much as ever, players haven't developed as hoped and there is still the same rigid stubbornness to team selection and game plan.

Lot easier to swallow losses when you know the best 22 have been selected and all was done in the box to assure a win.

Brad is still in development mode. 6 years long enough and it's not working.

Brad and the group need to have a total rethink of mindset philosophy, otherwise major changes need to be made.

A really good and thoughtful post. Walsh and Co. need to put it on Scotts at years end as did the Geelongs people on Thompson at the similar juncture in time. He either gets the response next year that we're after, or we're looking for a new coach by round 15.

"You perform or you don't play. That's what North Melbourne defender Scott Thompson has gathered from coach Brad Scott's decision to drop three players"

This encapsulates things nicely for me. What we can safely infer from this article is that this is a new concept under Brad's tenure. He's feeling the pressure like never before and (perhaps) decided that he needs to try a few things. That must be very hard for a bloke who convinced himself that his was the one and only path to glory (messiah complex?).

I won't be surprised if we see a few funky moves in the box during game day.

The emperor has no clothes - it's time the club called him on it and gave him his pink slip. And some pants.

Because bouncing back addresses the systemic issue we have.

The game was never really in doubt.

10 goals to 18th in his sixth year.

Yeah mate we're flying.

Players have definitely been coached on what to say.

Swallows interview then was word for word what Thompson said.

Hate be be a downer, but this win proves nothing. We want to win at least 6 in a row before scott can relax. We clearly have the class. Where has this effort been all year??

Just one win, but I can imagine the hysterics in the Crocker thread if Crock had been the coach tonight.

Anyway, tonight backs up what I have been saying all year. When Cunners, Swallow and/or Ziebell fire in the middle we are virtually unstoppable. Unfortunately they have been very inconsistent all year. And it is reflected in our results.
