How how how how how how how can rupo beat Ajax? Were rupo missing blokes against Werribee? Surely they couldnt have made that much difference? #mystified

Monash need a win and will get it, forcing scribe off bigfooty for at least a week! Can smyth win the league b&f from only 7 games?

Hi Les :)

Sadly, I think George will have to do it from 6 games after being left stranded in the Monash forwardline in what was very much a "half-court" game of football for most of yesterday. Whether by chance or design, Monash played a superflood in the 1st and 3rd terms and Smyth across half-forward was reduced to a spectator like most of the rest of us.

It was an error-riddled game which never reached the heights of greatness, and our boys' goal-kicking was nothing short of atrocious. Word was the mud in the middle stuck to the ball and made it harder to hit targets, but...well....can't say I've ever heard that one before!

Blues were missing a couple of handy types in Davidson and T. McKenzie, but they will need to find some of their form from last week if they're to hold off a resurgent Ormond.

Battle for 4th intensifies with the Rupo spanking of a disappointing Ajax - just goes to show footy is sometimes played a little between the ears. The Jackas list looked pretty close to full strength to me, and Rupo were missing the critical ground level presence of Justin Phillips ;). Still, at Sunbury, they're tough to toss and they're a young side with a true wildcard look about them.

Depending on whether the Roys roll Mazenod at BSO next week, 4th place could come down to a toe-to-toe tussle at the Barnyard in rd 18 between two clubs with plenty of goodwill and coaching groups which have been helping each other out with 'good oil' and scouting info. all season!

Lucky your boys kicked badly Scribo, would have been a massacre! Need to find 4 points urgently.....

After my car broke down on the way home down the Old Geelong Road, and I waited 90 minutes for roadside service, I've learnt the following about Premier C today:

1. Mazenod have some seriously handy forwards, but their Defence Against the (Nathan) Black Arts was awful;
2. Ajax are clearly Rupo's bitch;
3. Old Essendon are lucky there's only 2 weeks to go and they're clear of relegation;
4. Monash could be in strife if Ormond can jag one against OEG next week; and
5. It's now a 3 way battle for 4th between the Roys, OC and the unpredictable Rupo.....

Interesting times ahead chaps.

Thomas didn't play as he is physio for Port Adel when they play in Melb and Sydney. Along with Black, they are the two best players in C-Section.
Both defences were terrible and it looked as if both teams didn't want to get hurt.
If Werribee were playing ducks and drakes then they are setting themselves up for an unexpected exit from the finals. Went over to the Werribee huddle at 3/4 time and didn't hear one instruction from the coach...I get the feeling he is lucky that he has a good playing list. Just my humble opinion.

That's a fair slap to the best coach I have seen and heard.

Could it be that his instructions on how he wants his team to play are clear and players know what he expects and might be the best playing list because they stick to instructions?

Ha! Black is definitely not the best player in c section. If it's because he kicked 13.8 then fayman would be the best player considering he consistently kicks a massive amount of goals each week. Black could be a better player but he's far too slow and lazy.
The coach didn't need to say much because those boys know when they aren't playing at their best. But your right playing the way they did on Saturday will cause them to go out in straight sets. They are hungry for that silverware so they will work hard to get it!

You are probably right and maybe they just needed a rev up.

I've seen it happen too many times in the ammo's, teams that are up all year then fail in finals because they get ahead of themselves. Not saying that it will happen to you guys but history shows that it happens far too often. I like to see teams on the rise who can challenge the old school brigade. Sholley and his co-horts will be shaking in their boots that another team that is not an APS/AGS affiliate is on their way up....

Black is a gun smoking aces.

I agree he might not be the best at Werribee, but there is good competition and he is clearly top 5 and a big reason Werribee have improved on last year.

In a close game, to have 21 shots on goal is incredible.

One day they will make Werribee Build a school that is APS/AGS. lol

But they are coming through the ranks.

Banyule are doing well, as are Willy CYMS. Point Cook are struggling at the moment, but the growth of that area is phenominal and they will start getting good kids through.

There could be a stage where there are 5 or 6 uneducated teams in the top tiers! :eek::D

Notice all the talk about Werribee again. Does ANYONE have ANYTHING on Ajax. Surely KB or ANYONE yes ANYONE from Ajax have anything on Ajax. Still believe their the Team to beat for the Flag.
Werribee going through the motions and waiting to play finals.
Coach must be a genius if Nods reckons didn't give any instructions at 3/4 time huddle and Werribee then kicked 5 straight. Get off the grass:eek:

While I agree that my call maybe off the mark but surely that statement above backs up what I was saying??

Don't get ahead of yourselves, there's a HUGE gap between C and B and A. Caulfield have done well because of their school programme, but its unlikely that others coming up will repeat.
After reading todays paper about the Oakliegh v OB game on Saturday, I would say the VAFA is happy Old Boys teams dominate the higher grades.

A couple of things here.
1.Am reliability informed that VAFA hierarchy would like nothing better than to see district clubs move up the grade
2.Werribee have about 12 junior sides coming through to senior level.
So I believe when Werribee gets to B and A they will be well served by their Junior programme
Can you enlighten us as to what happened at Oakleigh on Sat.

Really?

If so, should it not work in the reverse? i.e. that sides getting relegated from higher grades can easily adjust to the lower grade standard and perform far better.

Looking at the recent deterioration of Old Essendon, Marcellin and MHSOB, you'd have to think that a relegation threatened higher grade side wouldn't be better than a mid-tier side in the grade below.

Unless logic fails to work in both directions.

Werribee not only have a pretty handy 1sts team, our 2s, 3s and U19s are all going rather well too. I can't see any reason why we shouldn't be confident of continuing our upwards trend post haste!

Grum

I am taking up a collection to purchase Ajax a Lap top with internet connection to hand over to them on Saturday, as obviously they don't own one or are banned from this site. Come on boys give us something, anything.:confused:

Don’t agree with everything that VAFA HQ do but I can tell you they would be absolutely wrapped with Werribee’s success and would love nothing more than to see them in A grade. Like em or loathe em they have invested plenty in growing a VAFA presence in the West and fought the WRFL over the Point Cook issue. They have established an umpires training base in the west to accommodate the growing number of western based clubs and umpires so any suggestion that the VAFA are concerned about Werribee rising through the ranks are ridiculous and ill –informed. And the way some people are carrying on you would think that Werribee’s rise through the ranks is breaking new ground. It is not. Ormond were an A grade powerhouse for many many years as were several other district clubs. Beauy and Oakleigh already doing good things in B grade with Ormond and Hampton having been there also recently. This myth about school & uni based not wanting district clubs in the higher grades is just rubbish and seems to be perpetuated by a minority with a chip on their shoulder. The best thing about the VAFA is that the promotion/relegation system across so many grades ensures a competitive game most weeks. Premier grade clubs could not care less who or where they play and would welcome Werribee in the top grades. However they need to get there first.

Rooster, thanks for stating the obvious, would love to see the Scotchies out at Soldiers, OM's will forfeit if they have to go there next year!

Bedders, any real hope of surviving?
