Can the tigers emulate the hawks and get a premiership? What do they need to do?

Lets see.

Pray for a miracle.

Whilst Wallace is here we ain't doing nothing, we play a game style that is opposite of the way you play finals football.

Having a look at today's game, we would have been belted by 15 goals by now by either team.

If we made the finals, we would have made up the numbers.

Hawks didn't rely on luck. They relied on statisticians and using statistics as a way of recruiting.

They had 2009 as the year tow in a premiership but it looks like their recruiting is bearing fruits afterall.

Edit> I feel so ill watching Hawks win the GF.

Its not like tiger dont deserve it. Tigers admin did everything to get a premiership. they got the big money gun recruiter and coach with long secure contracts to execute the plans and still end up lagging behind other team.

Finals footy is about one thing - "hardness".

Players need to be mentaly and pysicaly tough.

Yesterdays game was the perfect example of this, players physical attack on the ball and man and capacity to sustain return fire.

Richmonds young and developing bodies will need atleast two finals series to be able to absorb the battle heat.

We also need a coach with the tenacity to instill this into the playing group, whether that is TW or someone else, well who knows?

We have a fairway to go yet unfortunately:(

We need to work hard on the weights this preseason. We are on target for finals next season. Top 4 isn't out of the question but top 6 more likely. We should be expecting to do a Hawthorn of 2007 next year :thumbsu:

Watching the game yesterday, its clear that we're a fair way off playing finals football or even being competitive in finals (should we make it).
The game was hard, tough, tackling was ferocious and our smaller skinner bodies would've just been brushed aside.

Anyone who thinks we're just going to stroll into the 8 next year on the basis of this year is kidding themselves...I honestly believe every side bar Melbourne has a genuine shot at making the finals next year...make no mistake, we will have to be at our best for the whole year...we can't afford a slow start ....or any kind of slump at any stage of the season...after Hawthorn & Geelong...it's going to be a traffic jam....

We also had a terrific run with injuries.

Still, I think TAB opened us at $23 for next year's flag today... shortest I can recall us being at this stage for some years.

If that's the case. It'll be one heck of an exciting 2009 season.

One of our aspiring tall forwards needs to stand up next year on a consistent basis ...that will WIN us those clutch games that ultimately cost us a spot in the finals this year. Would have been good to get a taste this year , nevertheless we can take some big strides still bw seasons and hopefully add to the group in the draft with QUALITY

I think it will be, all things being equal, every team with the exception of Melbourne this year at least showed glimpses of being more than capable. The WA sides are both far better units than they looked. Port under achieved. The Scum will improve and Knights has the Bummers on the right track. The only teams I see going backwards are Sydney , North & Adelaide but as we all know, you write those clubs off at your peril. St.Kilda will miss Harvey , but still have enough talent. Footscray may step up or slide but they'll still be a top 8 contender at least. Brisbane is another 50/50...Voss could give them a new lease of life. The Filth will be good again, if not better. There will be very few easy games.

Of course there are many x-factors like injuries & player form, but that applies to everyone.

Who said anything about strolling? If we play the same way, we should win a couple of extra games due to extra experience and size. Not to mention the 2nd coming of Coughlan and the makings of Polo, Connors and Cotchin and early signs from Putt and Rance. We should be aiming for 13+ wins. Port and Freo may improve, but Crows and Swans may drop. It all balances out, but we are a team on the rise. Only a negative person would predict a fall. Only disastrous injuries to our best 10 players would cause this. Maybe you could stop predicting failure. It's not the Walls/Frawley years :o

Whoa Champ , bit defensive there, did I single anyone out?

Yep pretty much said as much in my post after the one you quoted. All I said was it's not going to be easy just because we came close this year. You can apparently follow a John Mclaughlin solo and all this other complex "thinking man's music" , yet you can't interperate subtext or even follow basic written English? :o

So...any number less than 10 and we'll still at least finish 9th? Geez , didn't know we such an awesome and deep list...better than Geelong & Hawthorn's even...must be because even they would fall with half that number of injuries to best players...

Maybe you could stop predicting failure.
Direct me to where I predicted failure in my post...

It's not the Walls/Frawley years
No it isn't...Frawley actually made the finals once...

Man , you're no different to negative fools like deliberate!!...someone can agree with you on most things , but dare disagree on even one thing and you're off and away, making gross exaggertions and accusations like a deranged lunatic.

everyone needs to improve some at the very least to maintain current standing...Then becomes a game of inches as to WHO has the scope for improvement and those that will begin a spiral down as others pass them by. Despite what many will argue, "lady luck" has a fair say....cushy draw to open the season builds momentum and the biggy is injuries...Lose a gun mid to successive knees or marque forward to a broken leg will have impact on any side. Cats/Hawks are ahead of a massive number of qualifiers , we're in that pack, should we play our cards right we can emerge as a contender...Our prospects are as good as any of these qualifiers right now

exhibit A of delusional tigerhead. We "should" but the rest "may".
You see fool, you continue to view the footy world from one eye, when you talk about us winning a couple of extra games, because of our "improvement". But you dont pay any respect to other teams who could have beaten us this year but fell short because they too were in the same boat as us. Whereas the teams that "may" drop down, more often that not, blew us away.
For those who like to live in denial and continue to deviate away from reality, what the dawks achieved over the last 5 years is what we were suppose to, when we started on the same journey.
Like i said to a dawk mate before the game on saturday, i cant belive your mob are playing in a granny before us. And then at 3/4 time, caught up with him outside the ground and it had changed to , i cant ****ing believe your mob is going to be celebrating the flag before us.
All the excuses about us on this long rebuild to sustained success are just pissing in the wind. The dawks are now on a run, that will have them in and amongst it for the next 5 years at least, with a list as young as ours.
While we wallow in the mire, trying hard to elevate us out of mediocrity, to attain the same level of success. Our "long" rebuild will not do anything in the way of extending our successful period, if we get there. It doesnt happen these days, its get what you can when you can, because the system doesnt let you do anything else.
We have muffed our chance. We will do a bulldogs or roos for a while and then return to the chasing pack. The end. ;)
