Dudes,

How much of a friggin' WINNER is this guy? You can say all you want about talent, etc., but some players are just winners, period. SO glad we picked this guy up.

I guarantee that at some point in the future, he will prove himself instrumental to our flag chances. I don't even wanna hear about his age, size, etc.

Anyone got stats on his team's performances over the years? Would love to see his winning percentage when playing in a side.

He's playing fantastic footy for us - we've been missing a player like him for years.
Loving how he, wright, pets and also stiffy are rotating through the forward line to keep us dangerous for any contest.

Who cares if he is a few years older than the older players - if anything he demonstrates a smart mind. something that comes with age! Let alone has a good boot and wins the contested ball. Good work Ian, a great effort today.

What are you talking about, in a winning side for central districts for how many years? and having a positive influence on the game?

get of the grass _\|/_  :p :D

If he had an extra yard of pace, he'd be a 200 game player by now. He has something that so few drafted players have these days...a football brain. Like Porps you can see he has already worked out what is happening and what he needs to do before others have got to that stage

So happy for the bloke. Living his dream finally. The wife, having been there supporting him in this for so long, was for a few years probably watching and dreading the time when the reality would hit him, that the dream wasn't on.

Here's hoping he not only plays for several years more, but has the chance to experience real success with the club. He deserves it. What a story.

Quality comment. Must have been a massive support for him. Good on you Mrs Callinan

He's behind McIntyre.

I'll put my hand up, I called for McIntyre to come in in front of Callinan at the start of the season  Dude has made me eat my words, he's been brilliant. Every time the ball is in his hands I instinctively relax, knowing it's going somewhere worthwhile. Unless he's in the forward 50 in which case I tense up with excitement knowing a goal is forthcoming.

More than almost anyone in the AFL he deserves his good fortune this year. Hope he sticks around another few years :thumbsu:

All of the above, and I'm not exaggerating one bit when i say he's one of the most gifted footballers I've ever seen.

His ability to get ball to boot to the advantage of his team when under pressure is as good as anything going around in the competition.

Of course I hope he has huge success while playin AFL. But I think this shot at the big time has given him an opportunity after footy.. Yes it would be hard to teach his instincts N knowledge but I wouldn't mind him teaching our young small forwards how to play in years to come

Do people think he can go on a few more years than a normal 30+ year old due to the fact his body hasn't been put through the afl ringer for 10+ years?
Will this increase his longevity?

That has always been my theory. Hopefully thats how it turns out. The calf injury was a bit of a worry though.

Yes.

He doesn't rely on physical attributes, and never has.

The football matter - the brain, the skill.... That's not going anywhere. He is worth his weight in gold. You cannot teach what he's got - it is so rare.

As somebody else alluded to, I would like to see his winning percentage in teams he's been a part of too. Winners attract winners and Ian Callinan knows how to get the job done on the big stage.

I think Chicane needs to be let in on the joke.

Why does Vader always avoid these threads?
I'm not specifically avoiding this thread, or any other. Still trying to catch up on all the posts written since I logged off around 10pm last night. Unlike you, I don't have verbal diarrhoea, feeling the need to comment on anything & everything despite not actually having anything worthwhile to say.

Callinan has been a fine addition to our team this year. He's now kicked 13 goals for the season and sits 3rd on our goal scoring list as a result (Petrenko is 4th with 10 goals).

Yes, I was wrong with the calls I made about him last year and through the pre-season, but I acknowledged that long ago. Unlike you, I don't have any hang-ups about it. He outperformed McIntyre in the MMC to win the coveted upgrade - and he hasn't looked back since.
