Calling Out the BF Hawks 'Brainstrust'

I was goin to go out of my way to calm you down and state rather rationally that you are reading more malice into my thread than intended...

However I will simply point out that I did not include you in the 'Brainstrust'...therefore, I'm not interested in your little hissy fit reply.

GOLD - cop that old boy! :thumbsu: :D ;) :p

Yeah I can't say as the issue itself needs to be kept in house. Like all clubs, we are not immune to player personality clashes and coaches ego's. The most important thing is that the problems are resolved quickly so that we can go about our business in a professional way. Whether the incident is off field or on field is irrelevant. It is how we move forward as a club that will bring us success or failure this year.

Do you know if this problem or issue is currently being resolved or dealt with?

Well what ever it is, it has already effected our on field performance and it is only a matter of time before it effects our off field performance..

So I assume an event/incident has occurred that was not dealt with appropriately at the time and it has festered causing a division amongst players, coaches or both.

In your opinion can it be managed or is it a systemic problem that can only be solved if people move on?

Surely some of these problems have to start with the man at the VERY top of the club, one Jeffrey Kennett.

He was brilliant up until September 2008 when he had promised to keep his mouth zipped for the good of the club. I don't know if he allowed for a clause in his little promise about it becoming void if we won the premiership, but I can't honestly say that he's had the club's best interests in mind since that day. I can't help but feel that his insane comments and presence on match-day has done anything to help stablise the club in what has been a pretty difficult time where we've lost a lot of champion players, great coaches, our CEO and we finished 9th on the ladder with the gold AFL logo on our jumper.

If I was Clarkson, I'd be getting mightily frustrated at the former politician (who's never played the game anywhere near the top level) making more comments about on-field related issues than me as a coach.

I wouldn't be that surprised if that's where these "problems" are originating from

Or could it be that players within the club are not happy with the off season trading period letting go some pretty decent players and then paying over the top for some other players?

The key point is whether this is being resolved or not?

Is there anyone here who has the contacts to try and get this raised and addressed so we can do what we should be doing, which is winning football games.

It would be very sad to look back on this era as one of lost opportunity due to mismanagement rather than one of great success.

2009 was painful, this far 2010 has been the same, if there is anyone who
posts/reads these boards that can impact you would be doing a great service to all those that love our club as well as the HFC.

Dramatic, maybe a little... but the point is valid.

Well I just wrote out a bloody long piece on what's wrong with us and my computer froze up! Spooky...

Firstly, I am awesome because I'm in the upper echelon..

Secondly, what's wrong is we've changed our game plan this year to cover our weakness in the ruck and last year we changed our gameplan to cover our weaknesses in defence.

We need to let guys like Roughead, Hodge, Lewis etc. play in their NATURAL positions and the positions where they excel. I'd rather we had Lisle/Dowler getting beaten in the ruck and Hodge at his feet than Hodge making a contest and no-one at his feet.

Clarkson's obsession with versatility is becoming a problem. It might be handy in the last quarter of a grand final when you can swing Hodge up forward/down back to plug holes or for something special to win the game, but there's just too many players out of position for my liking.

Bang, nail on the head.

Called the club during my lunch breaking, asking about 'Wayde Skipper' and his injury update. He is 2-3 weeks away from returning. Geeeeeeeeez, i thought he might have been back this week, initially the club told us 8 weeks, this tells me his injury is more serious, than what we were first told.
That sums up our club last 18 mths. Misinformation.

Before last seasons draft, there was a rumour going around that 'Josh Kennedy' would be drafted. I sent an email to the club(Football Dept) and Jeff Kennet at the time, giving MY reasons why 'Josh' should not be drafted. All my points were football related and not on sentiment.

Guess who replied back to my email. The Great Man must have been dumb founded as i was when we gave 'Josh' away for a 3rd draft pick.

Last season, I clearly remember hearing Chris Pelchen on Morning Radio SEN, after Campbell retired, stating we would not be drafting any Ruckman.
We have 12 assistant and fitness staff behind the scenes. God , we even have a Coach(Chris Fagan) for the coaches. How ridiculous.
I am not trying to put a negative spin on this thread, only posting my experience, but something was not right from last year. I think all the retirements and injuries straight after the grand final has not helpled us.

I try to get down to open training and family days and the club do a great job catering to its supporters. I often get calls from the club to buy raffle tickets or contribute to club events, more often i attend and fork out my money.

While that may be interesting Gary, with this being a public forum and grazing grounds for starved journalists there is no way he is going to discuss anything of concern so to be honest think it would be nothing more than a PR exercise in appeasing some supporters

Mate that would be sensational but I'd only want it if it was the truth and not some PC, political bullshit.

Tell us, the paid up members, the truth.

Well- I think I'm im a little bit gutted reading through this today... I just hope Phil that coaches and players alike remember that no one is bigger than the club... Cryptkeepers mentioning of the word gold coast actually makes me angry that it could be used as a threat or leverage by either party...the inference galls me...

I have no idea what the issue is. But by all reports its solvable if both parties come to the table in a professional manner. I hope indeed that from the president down this is the course of action chosen.

Comrade NB, I think you are right on the money, here. Kennett must be a distraction to Clarkson in the very least. But it still does not explain the current mire.

Like so many other tippers last year, I was fooled by the HFC team on paper and I paid the price. Using the same dumb-arse methodology, I also tipped them against Norf down in Tassie and we all know the result. Henceforth things are going to change !

If one looks at the Hawthorn side on paper, it appears to be formidable indeed, particularly forward of the centre. But the cohesion is not there. I wonder whether Roughead and Buddy are too similar as spearheads, much like the wasteful situation down at Richmond when Roach and BT were both on the same list. This year, the Hawks are being put under such sustained pressure that their gameplan is unravelling. Something must be wrong with their heads, which gets back to the current climate (not culture) inside the club. That is the domain of the insiders and I cannot comment as such. But if the climate is less than happy, players are more susceptible to being wooed north to the Gold Coast.

I very much suspect that Cyril aside, your lack of genuine pace (particularly through the midfield) is the underlying reason for the drop in form. Everyone says the game is getting quicker and quicker but can any of you genuinely declare, hand on heart, that Hawthorn is keeping apace with this development? The names look great on paper but how many of them are genuinely pacey? Buddy by himself is not going to save you. He needs to be fed by prompt, accurate and fast delivery.

Anyway, that is my two bob's worth. I'd never thought I'd be having this conversation after Round 1.

And yes, Go Dees.

Biffinator.

PLEEEEEEASE! I would pay money for this. This thread has really got me worried today.

I dare say there are obviously some decisions or lake of decisions being made on the 22 each week by the coaching staff/selectors and maybe a group of players are voicing their concerns but falling on deaf ears?

I've given my line a second thought, CP. Have had some PMs not such a good idea.

Given the mood in here it would be a nightmare to keep control. I withdraw my question.

Ive been worried since round 1 2009, something was wrong last season and now its about to get worse, last season we were 2-3 this season we are 1-4.
Quartermain is adamant that Brown is definitely going to the gold coast,
I just cant believe that we only won the flag just over 12 months ago and the club is in tatters and falling apart.

I wish this thread wasn't so interesting for the wrong reasons.

Woah lets not get dramatic here. We don't know the full story of what's going on so saying the club is "in tatters and falling apart" is a bit strong. This isn't 1996.

I know you are joking mate, but I am not going to elaborate on anything I have heard. The club deserves better than that and need time to sort through the issues. Plus, what I have been told is hearsay so I may or may not be getting the full story. Regardless, the club comes first in these situations.

Yer i dont mean that kind of tatters, sorry i have a habbit for not explaining my self properly..
But there seems to be some reasons for concern and i dont mean 1996 concern but 2010 concern...
