Cam Mooney - Extra Man in defence?

Just wondering, considering Barry Hall poses such a threat, would it be an idea to start the game with an extra man in defence? Possibly Cam Mooney? I believe he'd play this role incredibly well!

This is just an idea, i'm prepared to take the critiscm if people don't like this idea.

Anyways, thoughts?

That has been his role for a few weeks now. Play in the midfield to give us his agreesion throughout the ground and float back into the hole the opposition full forward leads into.

Are you're right. It does do this incridebly well. Hopefully another best on ground performance from the big hairy cat this weekend.

Moons does spend a lot of time creating havoc in the back line already.
I would like to see him in the forward line as well so we don't fall into the trap that might well have cost the Swans the game last week (as well as a couple of umpire clangers) and that is they just did'nt spend enough energy trying to kick goals instead of stopping them.

I want Cameron to play forward this week, in an Aaron Hamill style role.

We know Sydney are going to flood back and try to clog up our forward line and we know for Nathan to be effective he needs space to lead into.

Put Mooney back there with the aim of giving Nathan and Kent space to lead into, get him blocking for them, get him charging out to marking contests to put the fear of god into the Sydney defenders who are certain to drop back to fill the hole in front of Nathan and Kent.

If you get smashed in a marking contest like Joel Bowden a couple of weeks ago you're going to think twice about backing back in front of the leading forwards the next time.

nah man, I wouldn't be starting big cam lose in defence tomorrow night if I were bomber. don't forget guys that we have to win this game tomorrow night, and I don't think conceding our best player from last week for the sake of chipping across big baz's path is going to win us the game.

we mustn't forget how influential the big hairy cat was for us early last week - this week he must start in the middle and do exactly the same job for us. sure, he will spend time in defence just as he has in every game he has played this year. but for us not to start him on the nut this week where he can crash a few bodies early would be a huge win for the swannies I reckon.

whilst I hear your points phat I don't think we'll see many swan's defenders shirk any issues tomorrow night. they are a pretty gutsy bunch of players - they showed us all that last friday night. I don't think we'll see kennelly or craig bolton back away from getting in the way of a kk or nath lead because they were crunched doing it the previous time - after all it is a final we're talking about here, something perhaps joel bowden and richmond aren't so accustomed to.

I also understand the need for kk and nath to have as much space as possible but I think we'll need to find another way rather than sacrificing big cam's game. for mine, I'd rather see him crashing into paul williams' thigh (or whatever it is that he is injured with atm) and kirk, buchanan, luke ablett, etc right from the opening bounce. that would be something we didn't see the last time we played them up there 8 or so weeks ago.

I'm not saying they'd squib it, but it's natural to at least think about it when you know someone like Mooney is just waiting to crunch you.

It may cause some hesitancy, you never know.

I just don't want them feeling totally comfortable about filling the hole and blocking the leads, i want them to at least know they're going to take some pain in the process.

Yeah, that's a fair point.

Perhaps he can play his natural game of floating around the ground whilst also making his presence felt should Sydney drop someone back into the hole.

The free run that Moons has had over the past few matches has meant that he's spent some time up forward anyway. If he just keeps being a presence right around the ground, I think he'll do a good jjob of intimidating the forwards, midfielders and defenders. The most important thing is that he goes for the ball, when he takes his eyes off it he gives away stupid frees which is what we don't want. If he goes for the ball he's going to hurt anyone else who goes for it, so it's a double bonus if he keeps his mind on the job.

I think he'll be in the middle at every centre bounce and then push a kick behind. Where as they'll flood 18 back into defence.
