Also think they need to think about putting him at 5 and Head at 6. Green is a more technically sound batter who likes to build an innings and he could really benefit being involved in partnerships with the experienced top 4. Head really is the perfect number 6 who can come in and shred an attack to bits quickly.

Seniority and all that might get in the way but maybe if Head gets left out for India that could give Green a window to cement 5 as his own.

I assume he has sort of longer term concern and thats why he is overs restrictions, even if they are bit over cautious probably better than early days with patto where they ruined him, CA seem to be getting better at managing the bowlers so its frustrating but we have to accept they know more than we do about greens health.

Is it a coincidence that this appears to be happening since Pat Howard got the flick?

Interesting yesterday with young greenie

After Starcs dropped catch .....we actually saw some frustration from the young fella and I liked it .....his next 3/4 balls reflected that and he let it rip ..and he looked a lot more threatening

Would like to see more from this from young greenie.....bit more aggression with the ball... He is a wonderful young man the kind you would marry your daughter to but sometimes he seems a bit reserved on the field...a bit too nice...express your talents young man get fired up son

Hitting guys in the head pretty much counts as a wicket

Should stop playing t20 and less 50 overs...
Why? We really need to stop expecting this of players, they aren’t just going to sit out two thirds of cricket because we value test cricket more. Plenty of players are all format players

Shame how the West Indies series has gone for him, hopefully he can have a better series vs the South Africans.
Didn't really get much of a chance, especially with the bat. Had no opportunity in the first test, and both times this test he basically came in needing to "hit out or get out". Not good for building red ball form going into SA and India.

I hoped they'd push him up the order in the second innings to give him a chance for a 'proper' hit this series. Instead he had a nightmare scenario where at best he could score a quick 20-30 in the dying overs before the declaration.

Precisely my view. While our middle order were smacking balls for fun, Green was sitting in the dressing room twiddling his thumbs or biting his finger nails for hour after hour. Then when he finally had a bat in his hand he had no choice but to tonk everything he saw. That sure as hell is not meaningful prep for the bigger opponent we have coming up.

Why they didn't give him a decent hit at in the 2nd innings this match is beyond me. We had already won that match with a gigantic lead, let someone else have a hit.

He should be batting at 5 anyway. Head is striking at near enough 100 at the moment, he would be a much better option at 6. There is a reason why Green bats at 4 in the shield.

They should have been thinking ahead and opened him

We were swinging almost that entire innings, Marnus and Smith went hard pretty early. He was never going to have a chance to build an innings.

Nah then he gets a good one and it’s a waste. Let Warner who is cooked anyway take the shine off the ball.
I love Greeny but man people are desperately trying to baby him

Move him up the order so he can get a hit, but not too high because that is too risky, but not too late in the innings either.

He will get his chance.

Yes Westie his change in attitude was noticeable to me too at that time. Have to say felt good watching him adding some mongrel to his bowling. Green has said his future lies as an all rounder so he needs to decide whether he wants to be a front line length/line bowler, a short menacing spell bowler or what his role is currently , a short spell relief bowler. Does CA think he has it in him to be a front liner, or would his body be better off in the long term if he was to play a role similar to what the fellow tall timber Kiwi Kyle Jamieson plays.. reduce his speed, lift his accuracy amd utilise his elevation/release point.

He's 23 now, he's been around for a while
Unfortunately for the guy himself much of that time was spent rehabbing from injury. Hopefully now his body has matured sufficienly he can go forward injury free and concentrate on honing both his skills to his and CA's satisfaction.

Yep agree with this part of test cricket batting at 5/6 is you have to play a variety of roles which can change every series, sometimes quick runs after long partnerships sometimes we are 4/50 with ball doing plenty but thats test cricket green will either learn to adapt and thrive or he wont and we will move on to somebody else down the line he doesnt need special treatment.

I am of the view that you have to have a specialist batsman with a solid technique at #5/#6. Preferably one that has opened at some time as it has been known for the 5 or 6 to find themselves suddenly having to face the second new ball.

I agree 100%. He's 23 now, he's been around for a while, when does he get the chance to become the allrounder we hope he will be. At the moment he's a middle order batsman who bowls a little. Time to unleash the beast.

He's 5 years younger than everyone else in the team.

His fc and test bowling numbers are alright. Looks good on the eye test
