What has happened to his career? Came onto the scene as a real talented allrounder at the age of 20, his batting was great, bowling not too bad. Now he cant make runs for Victoria, doesnt bowl...

Did he get given the captaincy too early - has that weighed too heavily on him? Just seems like he has gone backwards in performances since he came onto the scene.

Funny that, I remember during our pumelling in the Ashes, everybody was rooting for White as a potential captain of the test side.

Some idiots thought it would be a good idea to play him as a spinner. The rest as they say is history. His bowling stats aren't too bad, would be better than part time and if he hadn't already made his test debut I'm sure he would have been one of the spinners thrown in given our past 3 spinners have had worse records than him.

His batting seem to suffer once he made the ODI side, that meant he missed FC matches and County cricket.

He should have been groomed as a number 6 batsmen for the test side but he was played as a spinner. He hasn't been in the best form of late either.

Would have been a good replacement for Andrew Symonds in the test side if he'd kept up his form.

As you put it he came in as an all rounder but his skills were never good enough for either. His bowling never reached the mark and his batting while good at times has never been consistent enough. Too many players gone past him for test matches now. Still may get a one-day gig if can get some form back but doubt it.

Came onto the scene as a potential allrounder should be the wording.

Legspinning allrounders more often than not end up being misses rather than hits, white certainty never proved himself a genuine bowler at first class or test level.

two 5 wicket hauls in 115 first class matches, he looked a part time bowler when you watched him in action and his first class stats back that up.

he was never that good

buuuuuuurn

he had jolly good fun smashing div 2 county attacks on the flattest pitch in england (and as a somerset fan i thank him) but he averages 36 for victoria. he's never been able to make that next step. as noted missing half the shield season to play in meh oders not helping him. he's still only 28 mind you.

White and D Hussey - hugely dissapointing internationally :(

dhussey was solid in domestic 50 over games never good, in the long form he has been brilliant for victoria though he's passed his use by date. His international 50 over form reflects his domestic form.

should have been in the test side 5 or 6 seasons ago.

Really seems to have lost both his timing and the ability to construct an innings.

Thought he would make a good solid middle order test batsman one day but looking exceedingly unlikely now.

I think Victoria and many victorian players went backwards after hooksy passed away.

I think he was developing into an outstanding coach and manager of players.

Has a big flaw in his batting technique outside off stump. Good bowlers can (and have) exploited this. Cops plenty of flak for something he didn't have much control over - being picked as a lone test spinner. I mean seriously, the guy is a handy backup bowler in Shield cricket and there he is trying to stem the flow against Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman on their own pitches. Would have been a reasonable option as a backup spinner, but does his batting warrant this? Probably not, but in saying that he deserved his opportunity at test level.

One thing I do really like about him is his leadership. But unfortunately like many fine domestic cricketers before him and after him, he couldn't quite fit in at test level. No shame in that.

As mentioned should have concentrated on his batting only, averages 40 with the ball in First Class cricket and it was never anything better than part time at state level.

...but as soon as he became captain White threw the bowling out the window. (hence why his selection as a bowler was so absurd).
That's not absolutely accurate.

He used to bowl himself plenty. But after being selected as a test spinner and then failing, he never bowled himself much after that. Confidence totally shot. F*ck me we've had some useless selectors!
