Outside of 1 or 2 homers no one assured you this was going to happen.

Stop listening to the voices in ya head mate.
You might want to read the posts from Hawks fans up until maybe a month or two ago. Embarrassing the way they drank it all in and couldn't see what the rest of us could.

I have read this entire thread, most posts from both sides have been embarrassing

Seriously, I and many other opposition supporters have been pointing out to the deluded, arrogant and condescending Hawthorn fans that the list management strategy has in recent years been short sighted and irrational. But no, Clarko is a genius, Omeara is a gun, Worpel is the best young mid in the competition and so forth. Pure arrogance, like a mocking collection of howling hyenas. Well well, well

B: Morrison (21) Sicily (25) Hardwick (23)
HB: Impey (25) Frost (26) Scrimshaw (21)
C: Shiels (29) Mitchell (27) Day (19)
HF: Wingard (26) Lewis (21) Breust (29)
F: Gunston (28) Patton (27) Morris (18)
R: Ceglar (29) Worpel (21) O‘Meara (26)
I: Maginness (19) Burgoyne (37) ?????? (??) ?????? (??)

Bit of a way forward without most of the old blokes perhaps?

Depth is an issue.

Totally A OKAY with Clarko and everything he and GW did post 2016. We had credits in the bank and went all in to try and win another flag or two with the group they had.

Yes it looks like it won't work

Yes it will set the rebuild back a few years

No i don't have a problem with it, we tried to get around bottoming out as a club and now we will probably look to hit the draft and hope to his the lotto like every other club does. sh*t happens.
Very reasonable post.

However the test will come if Clarko (and Jeff), can also recognise the need to now rebuild and hit the draft hard. Jury still out on that.

I think we saw that start last year didn't we? Took Day in the draft and and Finn who was highly rated as well.

Great effort...you’re correct...depth a huge worry...

no replacement for Frawley, our supporters will say it’s jacob Koschitzke who is miles off playing senior football...

no number 1 key forward, our supporters will say Mitch Lewis...he’s a number 2 or 3, who at his best will kick 30 goals in a full season...

a midfield that can’t move...all slow and can’t kick with absolutely no one coming through...Mitchell, Omera, worpel and Shiels are our only pure midfielders and not one of them can kick and none kick goals.

guys like howe, cousins, Morrison and glass are all plodders who won’t be on our list in two years...the lack of development is those players has killed us.

Agree with almost all of that, but Lewis kicked 20 in his second year last season in only 12 games as the main target. We don't know what his ceiling is yet.

Yes at the time thought it may have suggested a change in philosophy

Is Finn close for selection?
Really hard to tell with no VFL footy, seems to be playing pretty well in the scratch matches but that is all just talk from the club who really knows.

I want him getting games as he can't be any worse than a lot of the guys getting a game but has upside. Jones is the other one that just HAS to get a game. Killed it at VFL level, now we need to know if he has what it takes at that next level or if he is just going to be a VFL bully.

And added Frost and Patton and Hartley. Also using rookie list spots for Brooksby and Minchington. Have to use first round picks twice every 4 years to stay in the mix to trade future picks. Weren't many big name trades last year anyway. Kelly was only going to WC and I don't think Hawthorn wanted to pay Brad Hill's asking price.

Day and Maginness might end up stars but they won't be stars overnight. If you are starting a rebuild via the draft strategy in 2019 then what does it say for your 27-30+ year old players?

Shiels is showing he is extremely lucky to be a triple(!) premiership player
Oh yeah but i think most knew that already though didn't they? Is one of the best 'role players' i have seen in years but surely no one thought he was anything above that.
