Personally I think outside runners is more of an issue. We always look much better when they are cracking on.

Agreed...Scully would currently be the worst winger in the afl that plays every week..I have never seen a player run so much and literally
not touch the ball...the fact he cannot lay a tackle makes him even more useless...

Henderson was much better today but he’s just about cooked. He has one more year left.

Love what will day has shown so far. Hopefully he and Finn maginness can play wing once Isaac smith hangs them up in a few years.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused. For years, all I've heard from Hawthorn fans is that draft picks are overrated

We’re done indeed, though nothing wrong with trusting in the judgment of a coach that has delivered 4 flags. Sure Hawthorn fans backed Clarko’s strategy which seems now to be the wrong one, but it’s not like all clubs that rely on the draft have had success (ie premierships) - GC, GWS, Melbourne, Carlton, Essendon, Bris etc. Clarko was justified in questioning whether the draft was the answer. Only 3 weeks ago we were 3-1, but have to admit the last 3 losses and the earlier Geelong debacle have ended any argument that Hawthorn can continue to trade away early draft picks and achieve success.

James sicily and Will day who played his second game today both distribute the ball well... jack scrimshaw will be back next week and Jarman impey either next week or the week after. They can all kick the ball well.

Was trading burton and a first round pick for chad Wingard a bad trade? In hindsight, it probably was.

I reckon Wingard is a gun and will finish top 3 in our best and fairest this season but he isn’t winning a flag with us and he was brought in due to Clarko and Graeme wright thinking we could challenge over the next 3-5 years. They were wrong.

That trade has been an outstanding success, but only for Port Adelaide. They seem nicely placed by getting themselves a strong high in a deep draft.

Not a big fan of putting all faith into draft picks. I mean Geelongs highest pick in the past 10 years is pick 10 so it hardly the be all, but then you see the kings, Walsh, rowels dominating games so early it does make you want the top picks

Early draft picks don’t mean guaranteed flags, but flags are usually won by teams who stocked up on early draft picks at some stage.

Our supporters will only tell you about the Lake’s, Hale’s, Frawley’s , McEvoy’s, Gibson’s and Burgoyne’s but never mention Hodge, Buddy, Roughy, Lewis, Birchall, Rioli, Smith who were all top 25 picks.

You need top end elite talent to win premierships. Topping up like we have in recent years, when we don’t have the top end talent was NEVER going to work.

Sometimes the greatest get things wrong and Clarko has to man up and admit he was wrong.

Not all teams that have high picks win flags.

But all teams that win flags have high picks.

I reckon you need to build your star power through your 1st rounders. The rest can work itself out with 2nd/3rd/4th rounders, rookies and trading.

100% agree...he had every right to give it a crack but he was wrong and deep down he would know it now...the hardest thing for someone like Clarko to do would be to admit his mistake in judgement...

next year and the year after will be much worse as well. It’s not going to be a good last few years for clarko...if you think he’s been angry in the past, I fear what 2021 and 2022 will bring... a lot of broken walls!!

Every player has limitations though. Mitchell can win ball and distribute by hand. He's not the piece thats going to break lines, kick bullet passes inside 50 or kick the match winning goals when needed.
