Building through the draft.
Clarko says NO

Good luck replacing Hawkins, Selwood, Ablett and Taylor. Geelong are in the exact same position. Two can play this game.

It's really sad to see what Hawthorn has become. They were such a dominant team 5 years ago, and it's genuinely sad to see them in their current state with their aging list.

Funny.

Ablett 36
Taylor 34
Selwood 32
Hawkins 31
Jenkins 31
Tuohy 31
Dangerfield 30
Henderson 30
Steven 30
Duncan 29
Stanley 29
Blicavs 29
Rohan 29

But we're doing well now, and coming off a top of the ladder finish last year. Nothing wrong with having an old list if you're getting results.

Hawthorn have an old list, and they're playing poorly. It's really sad.

If by winning only 3 finals from your last 12 finals since 2012 and no Premierships to show, then I’m totally with you.

If I were a struggling/ mid level club with a coach out of contract at the end of 2021, I'd be on the phone to Clarkson's manager to ask the question of what he's doing next. Wouldnt suprise if this continues if the Hawks and he need to make the move.

Good luck with that. He’s contracted.

Hardwick will be in the same boat in the next year or two so don’t get too excited!
Whaaaaaa? but looking at yesterday, Houli was deputized brilliantly by Egg-molester, astbury by Balta, Caddy barely contributed, Edwards Cotchin out, JR and Dusty just cameos. Grimes probably the oldest bloke with a strong contribution to the game, and the Tiges looked OK I thought.

I've always said 2017 for the Tigers is as 2008 to the Hawks, thus the tide will start ebbing for Hardwick around 2024.

Hey I've been pretty acknowledging of this (unlike Hawk fans who refused to acknowledge their situation). I've always said 2021, maybe 2022 at a highly unlikely stretch is our last year to contest before some sort of list rebuild/refresh/rejuvenation will be required as key players reach their end or twilight.

It all depends on how Martin ages. Richmond seem to be excellent at finding young players who fit their brand of footy but without Martin up and running they struggle to create enough scoring opportunities forward of the footy imo.

Sad?

Half the fun is taking joy in other teams misery.

I feel bad for Hawthorn supporters. There’s always been this palpable sense they’d be OK as long as Clarko was coaching. The number of head-in-the-sand responses in this thread says as much.

This has held true for over a decade, but he can only do so much with an aging list which is almost completely devoid of talented young players.

Burton was fantastic today. Probably Port’s best across the 4 quarters, although Boak was also really good.

Duursma wasn’t overly influential, but crucial in a couple of one-on-ones in the last quarter including a big contest against Walsh (although it may have been in the third quarter).

Port would be very pleased with how those two are tracking, and in the grand scheme of things wrapped with how the 2018 trade period has panned out for them, bringing in Rozee, Butters, Duursma, Burton and McKenzie. Mayes played his first game for Port today and was also solid.
If Burton had played that exact same game in Hawthorn colours people would be saying he is an okay half back flanker who is incredibly injury prone and can't stay on the park.

His best year is still 2017 and yet people downplayed him that year and despite being older and more injury prone since people are rating him higher.

Bugger that.

My team has had twenty years of misery. Now time for others to feel the pain of mediocrity.

Seeing Sydney and Hawthorn near the bottom is joyous. Let them stay there for years to come.

Surely it’s not as enjoyable as watching the Footscray’s vice captains off field actions recently! Or Footscray’s entire history as a footy club 😂😂😂😂😂😂!!!!!!!!!

So what are you saying ?

You wouldn’t follow Hawthorn if they had a bad history ?

Typical Hawks jump on the bandwagon supporter from the 80’s I see.

Well you won’t be going to the footy much over the next few years.

Not necessarily... Richmond haven't actually been neglecting the draft like Hawthorn have. While they have been winning flags, they have been picking up quality youth in Higgins, Collier-Dawkins, Dow, Stack, etc. Sure, their current core of players may hit the wall soon, but they will be well positioned to build another good list.

Also, while Hawthorn were trading the farm to get O'Meara, Richmond got Tom Lynch for free.

Any way you look at it, it's just a sad state of affairs for Hawthorn.

Collier-Dawkins hasn't played a game yet, Richmond fans were calling for Stack's head a few weeks ago and doesn't Dow play for Carlton?

Nah the Tigers also have one... Who is yet to play a game

The lovely chap you responded to decided the Hawks had head****ed him enough to create a new account and add a whole heap of Hawk fans in to a messge group to try and troll us.

Poor fella.

That's and odd course of satisfaction... But whatever floats ya boat.

Watching the second half of that game today was hard. Trying to figure out the good young prospects on the list was even harder. Will Day? Seems alright. Worpel? Good. Hardwick is decent. Who else? The rest look like utter shit.

Funny how the deluded the fanbase was when they got Scully and Patton for a packet of chips, thinking they made out like bandits in the heist of the century. Just ended up with two cooked list cloggers on big coin who will struggle to consistently get out on the park for the rest of their careers, let alone be impactful.

Wonder if Clarko will just abandon ship? Don't see him wasting the years he has left trying to salvage something out of the Brown and Gold scrapheap.

No disrespect but so glad I did not start following a pathetic club like Footscray and chose Hawks instead as a kid!

Had a Western Bulldog fan do that to a lot of Swans users a month or so ago. Sent about a dozen of us a picture of feces in a toilet. A classy guy all round.

What’s Dank and Hird up to these days? Maybe they could provide some advice on drafting elite end talent!
