Can we win a final or the flag?

Lol one month is a long time in football. In May we had blokes on this board calling for Hardwicks head.

and rightly so. We were rubbish against the Dogs and Dees ad were not much cop against the poor old Blues.

Perhaps the negative reaction to the first few rounds made coach and team sit up and take notice.

Said at the start of the year,We don,t handle pressure well(i'm talking about supporter outside pressure) as proven in the past 2 elim finals. To get this monkey off our back we need to finish top 4 and at least in the first final the pressure won't be as high.
Top 4 not out of the question
Flag.We all would love to see it happen but no.

I still are, but truth be told I have now been married for over 5 years. So it's been that long I'm looking for any type of head.

In answer to the op. Maybe a final maybe not.
Flag, we are no where near it.
This is the concern from winning games with us. We win a few and the real issues get papered over.

First few rounds. We were 2 and 4 and had not played one good game of footy. It was almost 2 and 5 against Collingwood. It was an improved performance and ended up a win.

Whether we win a final or not depends on whether the club wants to plan for it or not. We MUST do the following.
- Win 6 of the next 8 games to enable us to lock away a top 8 position early.
- Rest the players for a week or two once the top 8 spot is nearly locked.
- Put the players into as heavy training block before finals and taper off 1-2 weeks before finals.

Our club is a comedy club compared to professional organisations such as Geelong, Hawthorn, and Freo who time their runs perfectly. We should plan our seasons like this EVERY YEAR because there is no point making it if you don't finish top 4. Battling on like muppets to limp in like last year will result in tghe same ending. An absolute thumping from a primed 5th placed side just tapering off ala Port Adelaide last year. So, do we go in with a limp dick only to have our bitch poached or do we go in hard and ready to perform? As always we will mistime it and Hardwick will run them into the ground. 2013 is a good example too. Blow our load too early and not prepare to win when it counts.

I thought it was a development year this year anyway.

Remember we started our rebuild in 2004 with Lids and 12 years from 2004 is 2016 based on the Hawthorn model anyway.

Obviously this is only a ballpark target with swings and roundabouts comparing different eras and apples v Oranges.

The main thing is we threaten for a premiership well beyond 2016 which I think is clearly achievable!:)

For mine our plan is 2016/17 with the view we are 1-2 top liners way from a genuine premiership side (we'd pick at least one of them up in this years trade period etc). However if we keep playing the way we are currently then there is no reason why we can't pinch one ahead of time like the Hawks.

Well we're winning...

I will say it is possible given its a pretty weak year this year I think. Like when Adelaide won it in the nineties.

Not many teams are strong. Hawthorn will probably win it but I think they are getting weaker as are the Swans and possibly Freo. Freo were not playing there after burn last night but I think they will respect us more after that.

Dunno, if we can win but we are far from a very good team. We have plenty of weaknesses to fix and improve on so we are a work in progress.

We might fluke it I suppose but we are pretty far from the kind of performance we want to excel at I would think.

Friday night was okay as a stepping stone. But I like to think our future teams should be able to put in far better performances than that as our team develops and improves.

We are coming from a pretty low base so there is plenty of development and work left for us to do I think.
theres no such thing as fluking premierships, you get there by beating the best teams

Yes
We would have to continue winning until we're guaranteed a top4 spot about 6 games out, then we can prepare for finals managing training loads and give us a realistic opportunity of winning finals.
Big ask though, especially considering we dropped games early.

Where do you get 12 years from Mr Magic.
Imo it took Hawthorn 7 drafts and two coaches to virtually build a premiership side. That is 01 to 07, premiership in 08. Only three players who played in the 08 premiership were at Hawthorn before 01.One of those was Crawford who was taken in 1991. From 01 to 07 they almost turned over the entire list bar a good handful.

If we want to compare Hardwicks team to what Hawthorn achieved then Hardwick needs a premiership next yr.

Hardwick has also almost turned over the entire list from 09 to 2014 he has the next draft and the time frame is exactly the same.
Players that are there prior to 09 are Cotchin, Deledio, Edwards, Foley, Newman, Rance, Riewoldt and Vickery. In this regard hes been better off than Clarkson.

I don't want to repeat myself but I regard the 2008 premiership by Hawthorn a fluke care of a far superior Geelong team that were not on the ball then

The atmosphere was amazing at the elim final 2 years ago, imagine what it would be like if we made the GF

After some predictions, obviously a few games could go either way for a few teams given the way this year has panned out, but considering I have Nth missing out with 13 wins... it will be sooooo important not to drop any games we should't.
