Nobody at the Saints cares. Not up to it and gone. Was just about to be the Saints new Gumby anyway. Saves him the embarrassment.
The final straw was on Saturday night having Reiwoldt and then McGuire rucking.
McGuire for god sake, not yet 19, and still made a contest.
Good work Saints. Keep the hard nosed attitude to players not helping us go forward.

I find this incredibly amusing.
He is that bad, yet he has played 6 games this year? Why can't he be dropped, and play out the year in the VFL?
I will p1ss myself if St Kilda happen to make the finals (I know that is funny, but there is more), and come up against West Coast or someone and Thomas just wishes he had an experienced ruckman with finals experience who has had his body right and has found form in the VFL.

Well good on ya Norfbouy, have a good laugh. Like that lazy trouble maker Everitt did in Loewes last game, Capuano forced the Saints into using our future champion Reiwoldt in the ruck, so as to get physically clobbered, and then had to use an 18 y.o. in McGuire to make a contest because Capuano was just hopeless.
This was the final straw, Capuano was on notice from the week before. He couldn't come up with the goods and therefore paid the price.
As for Brookes, he is a 20 y.o. ruckman who will be with our club for many years and once his body matures will prove a good ruckman.
SO laugh away buddy. Capuano helped North to a flag in 96 and 99 and good luck to him for that mighty effort. But 5 seasons down the track he isn't the same player. Sad but true.

ST KILDA today dumped ruckman Matthew Capuano after a run of poor form.
Capuano was benched during Saturday night's loss to Collingwood and coach Grant Thomas said after the game the ruckman was not playing as well "as he needs to" at the club.
This morning, the Saints issued a media release announcing they had released him.
"Matthew's opportunities for the remainder of the season are minimal," Thomas said in the statement.
"This combined with the need to develop the young ruckmen has led us to take the stance of terminating his contract as of today.
"Matt is a dual premiership player – something most can only dream of.
"The decision to act immediately and decisively is in the best interests of both parties – he deserves our honesty in relation to his circumstances and the club's future, we wish him well".
Capuano, 27, played 107 senior games and had suffered from shoulder and knee injuries last season.
He was a member of the Kangaroos' 1996 and 1999 premiership sides before moving to St Kilda two years ago.
Capuano only managed seven games last season because of injury and had played six out of nine games this year.

Was Capuano ultimately made into a scapegoat? Part of Thomas' efforts to embed a new culture down at Moorabbin? That his sacking is a harsh statement to the rest of the team that good enough is not acceptable? A more extreme version of the Blight / Pathetic Pittman jibe?
This is the only sensible thing I can make of this.
As he has been sacked, he would still have to have his contract paid out and it will still be counted towards the salary cap. As he isn't on a long term injury list, there is no rookies that can be promoted in his place. And there is no chance of him helping out the younger players at Springvale.
I just wonder if there is something more sinister behind all of this. That perhaps there is an impending disgrace about to emerge that the Saints wanted to be proactive in distancing themselves from?

Obviously the Saints couldn't afford to keep him one way or another.
Hope Essendon are paying attention...an experienced ruckman like Capuano could be welcomed out at Windy Hill

Pure speculation, but Saints supporters have been asking why he has been selected over the past 3-4 weeks when his form hasn't been good enough to warrant a spot in the team. The concensus at Saintsational is that he has been given 2-3 games to prove his worth. Something he hasn't achieved. In that regard it makes perfect sense especially with the likes of never rucked 18yo Matt Maguire proving more effective.
Why he hasn't been kept for the Springvale team I can't answer, maybe it is less a priority than giving the likes of Oliver a go?

Brookes is a dud.
St Kilda may or may not have made the right decision in deciding to offload Everitt (wrong IMO), but they totally screwed themselves as only St Kilda can, by getting Barry Brookes in return for him.

I know the saints are saying that he was crap and coudn't compete and all that but I still feel its a pretty shoddy way of treating someone.
He gets the media spotlight for all the wrong reasons and a dreadful way of (most likely) ending his AFL Career.
I have no fondness for David Bourke but if they sacked him after his one game against Adelaide or a week or 2 after I would be
a) probably glad he was gone
and b) feel that the club did the guy a dis-service.
what if the roos did it to Shane Clayton ? Every week for the past 2 months we have had people screaming for his blood on the Roos board but I don't think any one of us would wish a mid season sacking on the guy under the same circumstances.
Whats wrong with leaving a guy in the VFL until the end of the year ? I just think its another dud move By Thomas and makes it look like he is using him as a scape goat rather than for any other reason. I hope at least they offered the guy a chance to "retire" first rather than have this media beat up

Paid the price as a footballer, surely a drop to the VFL? How is it worthy of sacking? Plenty of blokes have sh1t games (a St Kilda fan would be aware of this phenomonen surely), but you don't sack them.

Absolutely.
Clayton is a mess, but he played 12 staright games of soft uncommited garbage, then we sacked him mid year, I would be furious. It is simply not on.

Ordinary people management, which is what I thought the St Kilda coach was supposed to be good at, whatever his other shortcomings.
Capuano was a more than useful ruckman who was pivotal in the 99 GF win, and St Kilda were happy to recruit him. If he's not up to so much now, after some work-related injuries, then surely he would have been more useful passing on his experience to the younger players round the club than being dismissed (given that they surely have to pay his contract out anyway). Plus it would have been a more appropriate way to treat him.
