Just heard Peter Curran on 5AA talking about their internal trial down at the Mount. Very happy with Carey and perhaps even happier with Ronnie Burns.

When it was suggested that Carey would be CHF he was dogmatic that Ayres was totally happy with Stevo at CHF and it was too big an ask for even quality players to play the hardest spot on the ground (CHF) after a year off. Carey would be at full forward with Ronnie Burns sniffing around for crumbs. He said that Carey at FF gave them something they have never had - a tall strong contested marking forward.

They were very happy with some of the efforts of players pushing hard for a spot - especially Reilly who he said has really lifted his levels.(I'd personally back that one up - he will play games this year)

Bock got a good mention, but will probably have to put a bit of weight on before he gets there. Hentschel has had a back problem for a little while now, but he seems to have thrown that off now and will probably resume full training next week. (Unbelievable that was - I watched him just kick the ball and he went down with a bad back like a sack of spuds.)

He was very complimentary about Torney as well and what he adds to the side - a quality player who receives very little media attention because of the higher profile recruits in Carey and Burns.

The bottom line is this. They will be picking close to their best side for Feb 22 as they DO want to beat the Powder!!!

Go Crows!! ;)

Good to hear that the Crows are confirming most of our thoughts that Carey would best for the side mainly at FF. He should manage at least 3 goals per game IMO & give us our 1st decent target since Mods left. :)

Macca, do you know where Bock played?

Who is ahead out of Reilly, Doughty & Gallagher for a midfield spot?

So if we are going to pick a full strength team (exluding injuries to Welsh, Bickley & probably Massie) against the Power, I gather it would be something like:

B: Hart, Bassett, Smart
HB: John****, McGregor, Torney
C: Stenglein, Riccuito, Ladhams
HF: Edwards, Stevens, Burton
F: Burns, Carey, Bode
R: Biglands, Goodwin, McLeod
I: Clarke, Rutten, Reilly, Doughty, Gallagher, Mattner

Bock played CHB. He has been used as a tall defender in nearly every scratch match so far.

IMO Reilly has been the most impressive of the 3 so far. Having said that, I think Doughty will get the opening nod on the wing because of experience. Reilly and Gags will both be in the 24, but probably starting on the interchange, with Gags being part of the on-ball rotations. He has played all trials so far as an on-baller.

Nothing wrong with the 24 that you put up and there will still be a few who are stiff to miss out!!

You beat me to it Kane. I have just been trying to work out our line ups for the Eagles and Norwood matches.

These line ups may also apply if we play the Power B's during the pre season:

CROWS A’S

B: Hart, Rutten, John****
HB: Smart, McGregor, Torney
C: Burton, Ricciuto, Stenglien
HF: Bode, Stevens, Edwards
F: Burns, Carey, Bassett

R: Biglands, McLeod, Goodwin

I: Clarke, Gallagher, Reilly, Doughty, Massie, Perrie

CROWS 2’S

B: Bock, Smith, Crowell
HB: Massie, Parker, Shirley
C: Mattner, Nelson, Bratton
HF: Ladhams, Perrie, ??
F: ??, Jericho, ??

R: Marsh, Schuback, Porplyzia

Good to hear Carey will be FF. I hope he kicks a few goals at the Coopers Hill end!

I can see that some players will play both sides for some amount of time on Friday night at The Parade.

Can't see too many of our best playing the Eagles. Could they give Bickley a run against the Eagles?

I reckon we will call in some ring ins from the SANFL U 18's. Any idea who they could be? Some rookies that didnt make the list perhaps?

Can anyone recommend any juniors that the Crows should invite to play against the Eagles that we should look at recruiting for next year ie David Kellett?

There'll be some fullbacks wishing it wasnt so (Re: Carey)
The strength of Carey to stand there and out muscle his opponent to mark thebomb will be an asset too.

Plus its a good confidence vote for Stevo who maybe, had visions of being banished down back with the arrival of Carey.

Did any body read the article in the tiser about Ronnie yesterday?
Seems like hes burning up the gym well after his team mates have gone home. I think the quote said something like
"doing more than we expected ";)
Onyaron!
