The feeling was more pity than anger before last year, but for a team that has been given so much to blatantly exploit the system again like Carlton did last year...that was the breaking point for me.

It doesn't bother me that much, because the damage this does to a club's culture will never be supplemented by draft picks, but don't go around bragging about it or drawing attention to yourselves.

It is embarrassing. Keep quiet about it and just get on with trying to win games.

Again, who's bragging? Any mention of drafting/picks in this thread has been in response to opposition supporters laying the boot in over Carlton operating legally within the current system.

Others clubs have done exactly the same - they just haven't been anywhere near as bad as us over a sustained period, so haven't had as many picks. Its really not that hard to understand.

PS re: the culture comment, do you really think we would have been telling individuals to go out there and not try? I can accept we've rested players and played below strength teams, as other clubs have, but if you think thats going to impact on players motivations and ability to win games this year and going forward you're kidding yourself - have a look at the last quarter on Sunday night.

I can understand people hating Carlton but I'm not sure why they should be singled out for this.

Hawthorn's 'raping' of the draft was as obvious as any team especially with the experienced players they off-loaded. Richmond look like drinking from the well in a Carltonesque fashion but nobody's having a go at them.

Western Bulldogs, St Kilda & Collingwood are all teams that have have had a rise on the back of a couple of seasons with early or priority picks.

Its probably because people know that Carlton win premierships. Bulldogs, St Kilda & Collingwood don't. Carlton will make the most of their draft picks, and this scares opposition fans. Teams like St Kilda just piss away their time in the sun.

I am not saying it wasnt a good plan for you that worked but when you have in the past pulled up stumps half way through a year and given up on it, are you really in a position to have a go at other clubs?

obviously Manton meant that the young group might not be ready for finals and could be overwhelmed hence setting them back in terms of their confidence. Leave it to a Port supporter to totally mispresent the comments. I guess even their mods have no principles.

the entire football world believes what they want to believe. if they looked at it rationally they would know there is no evidence of Carlton tanking besides one disgruntled assistant coach going on television for the purpose of inflating the footy show's ratings. Hell yes, with relegation. Winning side from VFL, SANFL, QAFL and WAFL play off against the bottom 4 AFL

Your team pulls up stumps during games,your stupid coach should be more concerned about how your club is considered the biggest chokers in football, than worrying about the oppositions team list.
Carlton used the system that was put in place by the AFL, it appears to be working for them.
Lots of other teams like Collingwood have used the same system to get draft picks, and the cats have benefited with the father son rule.
If it works , then good luck to them i say.

Apart from the fact we had a caretaker coach at that time who was trying to get the job on a full time basis on a mandate of changing the club. Watts only played five games in 04 anyway and didn't play after round 17 if I remember correctly.

If Port can't make the finals in say a months time and you start putting guys like Cornes in for operations when they could still actually get out and play what's the difference? It's smart play but if you are going to do it don't slag of at other clubs.

The stupid thing about this is that we have only won 5 games this year and are not even the top 8. Pull yourselves together people.

So its OK to have top draft picks in your side when you are on the bottom of the ladder, but if you win a couple of games it becomes a major issue. Nobody seemed to mind when your teams were handing out 100 point thumpings against us.

Funny how Carltank supporters are actually proud they have so many No. 1 draft picks running around for them. It's not a badge of honour that your team has been pathetic for so long. We were penalised for cheating an integral component of the AFL's equalisation policy... the salary cap. Another integral component of the equalisation policy is draft order reflecting ladder position.

Don't forget; on field and off, Carlton have come back from the brink.

If you want to argue against us being awarded top picks, then argue against the implementation of the cap in the first place and the whole concept of us cheating. You wanted the Blues to play by the new rules and now that we are you whinge about it.

He was merely stating how strong the Carlton list is (with their 3 top 10 players and hoard of #1's), how great the resources they have are, that they stop at nothing to achieve, and were going to he hard to beat. What you say is true,But i would rather of made it back to the top with out the draft picks .It is hard to be happy when you have the picks Carlton and other have had.That is why Geelong should be so proud of their great team.

It's the other way around. Carlton cheated more than anyone else and got hit harder than anyone else. Carlton tanked on a larger scale than anyone else and they are more derided for it. Now you and your mates try and broaden the definition of tanking and capture more clubs in the classification. There aren’t 2 black or white pieces of paper. There is Carlton's black and a few other light greys and maybe a true grey with Hawthorn's list management and game plans. That would still be at least a level down on not trying to win games for at least half a year.

Carlton cheated and we got our right whack, which in part led to 6 years of abysmal performances, which in turn led to alot of draft picks.

Look, concentrate and I'm sure you can all grasp this: Other teams weren't able to take as much advantage of the draft because they simply weren't as bad as us - the system actually does what it's designed to do, unbelievable concept I know! Carlton 'tanked on a larger scale' as you put it because, guess what, they were a bottom 4 team for longer than anyone else, and had the opportunity to.

If you think for a second any team in Carlton's position would have played it any differently you're delusional. I realise most other supporters would love to see us languish at the bottom forever and good luck to 'em, but don't bring up this crap about Carlton (and only Carlton) somehow being the only club to tank for draft picks when we start turning it around.
