Gerard Healy is on that new 'look of the game' panel which bodes well.

So that is Blighty, Lethal Leigh, Healy and Mike Sheahan so far.
Hmmm, there is hope for Kerr the game might open up in 18 months and the full forward gets a go in footy again.

This has been most shit season of football to watch across the board.

I am actually getting optimistic these guys will do the right things to fix it.

This kinda lack of knowledge annoys the hell out of me.

Yes the Pies have done very well with their GWS recruits.

But this consistent anti-Carlton bias is ridiculous.

Let's take a look at the list:
Plowman- best 22
Marchbank- best 22
Pickett- best 22
Kennedy- probably best 22 when healthy

Phillips and Lamb have been decent depth players.

Whiley and Jaksch were BEFORE SOS came back to the club.

Palmer a salary dump to get Plow etc.

Sick of this.

Also Gerard Healy is on that new 'look of the game' panel which bodes well.
Yep. SOS has obviously tried to build our depth without giving up too much.

Marchbank was the only player we used a decent draft pick on.

I am sure he will soon start to target better players in exchange for draft picks..but the media aren't interested in this or what we didn't give up for our players and what Collingwood did give up for theirs..

Cripps not in AFL’s mid season all Australian team or Tom morris’ mid season all Australia team. Taking the piss surely
It's alright, he'll take the Brownlow instead and laugh at the media who think he isn't in the best handful of midfielders in the comp this season.

I come back to what I've always said.

Who gives a shit what the media think? They're paid to think the way they do, and if they didn't sneer the way they do they'd be unemployed.
I mean, this is the "Carlton in the media" thread, so what should we do if not discuss our representation in the media?

Ignore the thread? Only discuss media that has done a fair assessment? Discuss the role of viewers in keeping the current Afl media standard so low. Plenty of options instead of just keeping them employed, giving them site traffic and driving ad revenue.

I'm coming to the conclusion that I must be something of a censor, because I've been interpreted as trying to shut down discussion in two different threads today about two different arguments!

I have zero issue with discussing what the media is saying about us; I do have an issue with the 'them against us' attitude that envelops us because the media refuses to kiss our arse when we're 1-10. We, as a supporter group, and the rest of the AFL public, respond to negative stories about Carlton; when there is nothing productive to publish, it's been their go-to article/discussion piece this year. Individuals have formed careers from trolling Carlton supporters.

Take the good with the bad, don't rely on what the media is saying about us to form opinions on how you see the club, and seek out statistical analysis rather than subjective rubbish.

The problem is though, we have prob 8 of our starting 22 out of the side, but there is no mention of this, the continual "kick em while their down" agenda from the media has an effect on supporters who start to "give up" on our rebuild etc, i know we'll be back up there sooner than later but the way we are treated as a running joke, with no consideration of circumstances in the media is BS.

Yep.

It's like the "umpires hate us" obsessions when we actually have had the 3rd best freekick differential this century.

Persecution rants, in football, are pretty boring.

I don't read or watch anything footy and i won't until those arrogant tossa journos open their eyes and see where we are at .The best place to read positve stuff about us is mostly here on BF .

Well ... you're ****ed then Dave lol!

and only seek out positive subjective rubbish.
I'm rather curious as to how you've come to that conclusion, given that I've literally spelt out what criteria I expect to use when judging whether a source is worthwhile or not.

Statistics, not rhetoric. If someone builds a case using evidence interpreted from statistics across the year for us being shit, I'm all for it; if someone discusses how shit we are because we lost to Melbourne by 109 points, I'm going to nod and ignore.

The trick is to read everything, but not take the subjective stuff personally. Media exists not for the readers, but for those looking to sell stuff to the readers; ergo, they write things that make us read, rather than the things we ought to know.

Read the last post, as to my attitude towards the media in general. Take the evidenced claims as asserted; take the not backed up with a nod or a shake, whether either point agrees with you or not.
