Sorry haven't read through all the earlier pages so I'm sure it's been discussed but I have to say I watched some highlights yesterday and would have thought say Rakine looked really impressive to me-some real x factor not unlike Rayner.
What are people's thoughts?
From what I saw Walsh looked a little bit like another Paddy Dow.

I’m no draft expert at all, so this is purely on limited viewing as a lover of the game, using some rudimentary talent identification skill picked up playing in some off-grid fantasy footy draft leagues.

Rankine just screams “player” to me. Will make it at AFL level, and then some. Mercurial talent with an eye for goal that is utterly instinctive. You can’t teach what he knows, but you can teach the rest (fitness, structures, etc)

My main hesitation would be that his natural skillset would be criminally under-utilised playing as part of our setup. And his abilities may not shine regardless, in the modern AFL world of rolling mauls and intense two-way running causing heavy congestion at all parts of the ground.

6 v 6 v 6 may help with that, so with an eye to the future, I believe we would be mad to pass up a chance to get him.

Things like attitude and dedication I can’t comment on in the slightest except through hearsay - so if the club does pass on him, I could only assume that these “non-physical/talent” factors would have come into play.

An off-season haul of Shiel, Setterfield, Liberatore, Rankine, McGovern - is absolutely mind-blowing to consider.

B: Plowman Weitering Simpson
HB: Docherty Marchbank Byrne
C: Fisher Shiel Setterfield
HF: Dow Curnow McGovern
F: Rankine McKay Murphy*
Foll: Kreuzer Cripps Liberatore

Int: SPS, O’Brien, JSOS**, Kennedy**

Em: Ed, Williamson, Lamb, Lang, Lobbe, Thomas, Garlett, Pickett, Wright, TDK, Schumacher, Cuningham, Kerr, Rowe/Jones, Goddard, Casboult/Phillips, Kerridge/Mullet, McDaid, any other 2018 recruits

*if he plays high half forward and can hit some form while avoiding the clinches, will be a huge asset

**might only be one of them due to pace, with a few talents waiting in the wings. I’m an unashamed fan of JSOS due to his footy brain, and he’s the type of player that makes those around him play better with smart disposal under pressure (no hospital hand passes come from him, he will find the right option) - he will truly shine when we are a better and more disciplined team. Kennedy is slow but needs to force his way in after a big preseason, and despite his running power and status within the group I think Ed’s spot is there for the taking based on the quality of incoming recruits proposed above, and the lack of quality of his disposal

(Just FYI regarding my rudimentary talent ID skills: I used to play in a fantasy footy draft league where you build a list and keep it over time, many years before DT and SC adopted the concept - youth was my policy from the beginning and using that philosophy I landed Cripps, Tom Mitchell, Treloar, Jesse Hogan among others before they had kicked a preseason ball in anger. So rudimentary is probably overstating it! I rated Burton as one of the best in his draft year and stand by it, was shocked he slipped to the Hawks’ pick. No idea why Worpel was allowed to land where he did either. Damn Dawks. )

Buckenara's annual stab at the Top 30 at this stage. I must say i really like it. Mine is quite similar so if i go down in a stack of flames this year, i've got Bucky for company.

My main differences are i've got Jones, O'Halloran, Collier-Dawkins and Caldwell a bit higher. And Thomas, West, Hately, Foley, English and Butters a bit lower.

Unless used for trading in players, I doubt SOS will package up our 2nd rounders for a 1st rounder, not in this draft

Yeah, i'm almost positive that if he doesn't have to use them to aquire players via trade, that he will keep them until draft night for added flexibility on the night. With the probability of using them as is.

I’ve done a 180 on this.

All year I’ve been in favor of bringing in another first round pick, by trading our two second rounders.

Now I’m thinking we’re better off trading pick one, as I have suggested, to the Suns and picking up WCE’s first round pick in the process.

Pick 2 - Walsh
WCE pick - Duursma
Pick 24 - O’Halloran / McHenry
Pick 25 - McHenry / Butters
Later pick - Jordan Clark

Would be very happy with something like that.

I think Clark is coming strong, will be a late 1st rounder at this stage

Heard people bag this top 30 but it is very solid.

Maybe, really like what (very) little I’ve seen of him.

24/25 maybe not out of the question. Love what McHenry and Butters bring, but might be too much taking both.

Yeah, Clark continues to progress since the carnival

I like McHenry, really rate him

Buckenara's player comparisons are strange.
Describes Walsh as an outside mid but compares him to Selwood.
Compares Smith with Kelly which makes little sense.

Feel sorry for Luke Foley as Buckenara has compared him to Rhys Mathieson. Not sure how that helps the kid get drafted!!!

On another note, interesting to see him use Zac Fisher as a player comparison. Obviously he has made an impression on Buckenara also.

That's a Bucken good looking list....

Ultimate goal is to get McGovern, draft Lukoscious and sign him for 5 years. Then when Lukoscious requests a trade home we just tell them he's contracted. Big Footy would have to be shut down.

Sign him for 10 years straight up ……. interweb will melts ...

I think he has Walsh and Smith mixed up, so Walsh is the Kelly comparison and Smith the Selwood.
Can’t understand the Tom Lynch GCS as a comparison to Lukosiuos and the King Twins.
The Rankin = JOM and Rozee = Gibbs, are strange ones too.

I was not really worried about his comparisons. He was solid in his ranking and the style of player.
