As suggested in another thread, we should have a Ressies thread to track how our boys are coming along. Since we’re a couple of rounds too late, I’ve cut and pasted some match reports about our listed players.

Rnd 1 vs Sandringham said:
Round 1 of the VFL got underway over the weekend, with the Scorpions playing an away game against Sandringham on Sunday.
Charlie Gardiner
was proving a strong lead up option, while Goddard and Jones were making the most of first ball use out of the middle, and strong rebound football from the backline. Particularly James Gwilt.
Some very strong defensive efforts from stand in skipper, James Wall, and a tireless game from Andrew McQualter in the midfield kept the Scorpions with a sniff.
Charlie Gardiner
was still causing headaches for the opposition; Andrew McQualter kept his efforts up for the whole game with a Best on Ground performance.

Final Scores:

Rnd 2 vs Frankston said:
Round 2 saw the first game under lights at Casey Fields.
A better effort by Casey in the second term saw the team kick four majors, Matthew Ferguson and Alex Silvagni were controlling the backline well, which allowed Clinton Jones to work hard through the midfield to gain plenty of possesion.
While Michael Rix was working tirelessly in the ruck allowing Ben McEvoy to drift forward and take a couple of strong pack marks. Robert Eddy was playing an unselfish role on Frankstons goal sneak Justin Berry. This meant the Scorpions were able to slam 6 goals.

Matthew Ferguson was named Best on Ground, and continues to gain confidence with game time.

Rnd 3 vs Box Hill said:
The Scorpions made in 2 from 2 at home this year, with another strong display under lights, this time against Box Hill.
It was the Scorpions who were able to go into quarter time with their noses in front. Andrew McQualter was standing up in the midfield for the Scorpions.

The second quarter saw some free flowing football from both sides; Shane Birss was getting plenty of the footy, whether in the middle of the ground, or out on a wing.
It was the third quarter that Casey really took control of the game. Andrew McQualter and Shane Birss were still dominant in the midfield, and was able to sneak forward to pinch a couple of goals.

David Armitage was strong over the footy, and laid some bone crunching tackles, his confidence and ball winning ability around the packs at clearances seems to get better every week.

Once again it was Andrew McQualter all over the ground, Michael Rix's work rate was second to none, rucking for most of the evening allowing Ben McEvoy to be used up forward as well.

Casey Scorpions: 2.1. 13 - 8.6. 54 - 13.10. 88 - 18.14.122
Box Hill Hawks 1.6. 12 - 6.7. 43 - 7.11. 53 - 13.11. 89

Rnd 4 vs Bendigo said:
Casey won their third straight game on the weekend, and in perfect conditions for footy proved too strong when they travelled to Bendigo to take on the Bombers at Queen Elizabeth Oval. The Scorpions now move to third on the ladder, and the team is starting to look like a strong finals threat.

Andrew McQualter
had started the game in exceptional style, playing in the middle he was winning the footy with ease around the ground, delivering well to the forwards and working hard both ways, including a couple of good goals up front. Shane Birss was also in amongst the action.

The second quarter saw a tussle from both sides. Jarryd Allen was pushing hard whether at Centre Half Forward, or in the Goal Square, and Robert Eddy was doing his best to limit Jason Johnson's influence on the game. Ben McEvoy had his work cut out when Michael Rix withdrew late from the game, the young kid didn't dissapoint showing signs of what he is capable of, he was well assisted by Alex Silvagni, who not only was playing down back, but providing a chop out for McEvoy when required, adding some more grunt and and run through our midfield.

Once again it was Andrew McQualter causing headaches for the opposition and at the half time break.

Jarryd Allen was still providing plently, Jack Steven in particular impressed, when despite being the target of oposition players, eventually had the last laugh when he didn't let it distract his own game and drilled 3 majors for the day.

Matt Ferguson was displaying his trademark style of play, taking no short steps in running back with the footy to take regular grabs on the last line of defence. He proved his versatility when swung forward late in the term, only to take a hanger in the Goal Square and kick truly.

The hard work for the day was seeing the reward now, with Jarryd Allen kicking his 6th goal for the afternoon and the game was all but won when James Gwilt kicked a 70m bouncing goal to cap off a good performance from the team.

Andrew McQualter was Best On Ground for the second weekend in a row, and is enjoying his best start to the season while providing strong on field leadership and working hard all game every game. Jarryd Allen was not too far behind putting in his best effort for the club with 6 goals from both Full Forward and up the ground.

Casey 6.0. 36 - 9.4. 58 - 14.10. 94 - 20.13. 133
Bendigo 3.2. 20 - 6.3. 39 - 11.6. 72 - 14. 8. 92

Goal Kickers:

Best Players
: A. McQualter, J. Allen, M. Ferguson, A. Silvagni, J. Steven, R. Creed

Rnd 5 vs Tasmania said:
The Scorpions traveled to Tasmania last week to take on the Devils at Bellerive Oval on ANZAC day. The young Scorpions were unable to get over the line and went down by 19 points in what was no doubt a valuable experience for the playing list.

Andrew McQualter, after two consecutive Best on Ground performances was being watched closely by his Devils opponents and this quarter the Scorpions struggled to hit their targets going forward while adjusting to the Devils play. Robert Eddy was still pushing himself to the limit in the middle of the ground.

Raphael Clarke was having his best game for the season and played predominantly at centre half forward and in the guts, breaking away from his traditional half back flank. Aaron Fiora started finding his trademark run and shots at goal finding plenty of the ball across half forward, but missed on three occasions leading into three quarter time.

Ben McEvoy again impressed being the sole ruckman in the side, and having rucking duties for most of the day. He is showing maturity well beyond his age and is a big future prospect for St. Kilda. Mathew Ferguson again showed his versatility and was swung forward on occasions finishing with two goals. Raphael Clarke won the Best on Ground ANZAC day medal for the Scorpions side, as selected by the coaching panel and will no doubt be pushing for St. Kilda selection.

Tasmania 4.2 9.3 13.8 17.9-111 Casey Scorpions 6.1 7.5 10.10 13.14-92

No Problem guys :thumbsu::)

Yep some very encouraging signs indeed.
Andrew McQualter looks to turning the corner after being demoted to the rookie list.
McEvoy is getting better with each game.
Allen with 11 goals for the season is just the type we need to provide another target up forward. If Gehrig continues his form.

And surprisingly Gwilt is doing alright having featured in the best players twice, may be the unlikely replacement for Goose.

Should be exciting to see these guys get a call up, certainly pushing for selection.

Presumably there's not a bye for the VFL this week is there? If Casey's playing I reckon they're will be a few players going at it hammer and tongs, knowing that there's an extra spot or two up for grabs!

The only problem being the 5 day turnaround time between Casey on Sunday arvo and the Saints on Friday night

With the short turnaround, we may get an idea who may play. Surely those up for a spot will only play half a game.

Wow:eek:

Ferguson is stamping his claim for inclusion it seems.

Has played mostly in defence, but has moved forward a few times to catch the opposition unawares.

And the commentator who called Ackland a girl, thumbs up to you to. :thumbsu:

Haha even Carlton's reserves get dominated by us.

Is Allen playing? If he is it looks like Ferguson will be more likely of getting a call-up ahead of him.
