Byrnes had a very good game. He kicked goals, he tackled, he linked. Bag him if he has a bad one if you want, but give him a pat on the back if he has a good one. Its hard to give any positive regard to opinions that are always one eyed --even if they are from Cat supporters.
If Byrnes is displaced by a Prismall or a Varcoe or a Gamble so be it, but rest assured they will have earned their place and the team will be flying.
Look, I'm happy for anyone to be in the side that deserves it. Last year, until the VFL GF, no one from the two's put their hand up to take that spot away from Byrnes.
However, if you watch the GF again, see his disposal by hand. It is absolutely terrible, especially for someone who has been in an AFL program for as long has he has.
Then is his other issue, of having a great amount of speed, yet cannot seem to have the common sense to run away from the opposition. He seems to get caught a lot. This is mainly due to not having the ability to dispose by either right hand or foot. His off side skills are not up to standard.
You'd think he would work on that over the off season, however in the game yesterday there was a lot of times where he ran into trouble, was forced to tackle and his opposition went down the ground to kick a goal, i.e. Brad Green at one stage.
I'll admit that he deserved his spot last year, as no one was fit enough for a long period to show that they could take his spot, i.e. Prismall or Gamble.
Suggest those who think otherwise to watch a replay of the game yesterday, see how many times he turns the ball over to his direct opposition. Sure he kicked a 9 pointer, but there was so much wrong with his other skills that let him down a lot.
If common sense prevails, his time is limited.
