Autopsy Cats lose to GWS by 4 points

As Toby Green said after the game this was a flip of the coin result. We had our chances and blew them. Last week we prevailed.

Can’t wait for Henry, Kolo and Stewart to come back. And dare I say it, Stanley

if both Stewy and Henry are out again next week I wouldnt be against Kolo coming in. Need at least one player that is solid one on one as that deepest defender. Thought Bews looked good and should stay in regardless who is back next week.

Kolo didn't even play VFL due to injury.

His ruckwork was what I was most concerned with. That alone cost two direct goals.

He’s struggling but I feel you have to just keep playing him to 50 games. We literally have nobody else. At least he can say he was playing on a AA caliber player.
Thought Taylor was way off his usually best tonight. Half decent player would of beaten him. That out on the full tap killed me. Soon as he did it you knew that was going in no matter what. I swear every MF from the away sides that take a shot from that pocket always kick that goal from that exact spot.

Stanley is a must if he is fit IMO, even if it jusy means that Neale isnt rucking at all

Close failed to straight line the ball on multiple occasions today - it wasn't just in the 2nd half.

Close always fails to straight line the ball every week in one way or another - he's a slight dude; I understand the instinct for self-preservation, but sometimes it looks worse than others. He's just not a contested type player, not really.
Miers used to be similar but has mastered time and space to allow him to be effective in the contest.

Thought Close more or less played his role this week, same as last week.

Duncan will get torched on the bigger ground at AO (if he isn't sub).
You're taking the piss yeah?
It's a slightly oversized KP.

170m long v 167m
115m wide v 123m

Overall 15355 sq.m vs 16133 sq.m
In terms of playing space he's going from the smallest regular venue to the 3rd smallest. Having just played a good first game back on the 2nd largest regularly used MCG (behind Launceston).

thought Gyran was horrible in contested situations tonight, could be because of the concussion and didnt wanna get knocked again. 100% backing him in to be better next week.

I think as a young player Cos is cooked. For his long term development needs to go back to the VFL for a while.with our injuries though we won’t do it and we will see sub standard efforts kill us and maybe kill the kids confidence and development

I admire and covet a tall player that can run all day, do the unrewarded running and affects contest after contest.

We've got one in O'Sullivan, but there's unrewarded running and then there's unadvised running. He's been brilliant this year, but yes, starting to flag a bit.

I remember my untimely death on top of that "Rohan is a better option than Henry" Hill.

Please avenge my death
I've been attacked for saying Ohenry is not only slow but refuses to run and tackle. He lopes along. Opposition backmen don't respect him. Rohan gave us a lot more and backmen were wary of his closing speed.

My Tilly:.... we're not making up the numbers at all, that's negative thinking in the extreme and I sure hope the players don't feel that way. With the Giants they were brave but we still lost a game we should have won (it happens) and are still a shot at the flag regardless of what some Geelong BigFooty doomsayers may say. Get our first ruck back with either Reece Stanley in shorter term, then hopefully Toby Conway in latter part, then get our four main backman back in Jack Henry, Kolo, Lawson Humphries and Tom Stewart who can also play as a contested mid if necessary.

And fortunately, it also appears Tanner Bruhn will be back whom we've also missed badly and who will make a significant difference when he returns if certain rumblings are true. That's six players that will make a 'huge difference to our side' when they're up and running in the second half of year in which overall we have a very soft draw. Losing a couple of close games with so many important and crucial players missing from our best side has overall been more than a OK performance with the Crows, Hawks and Magpie contests 'all top away wins'. So sure, we need a bit of luck on our side but then again so does every other side and as it stands we've still got plenty to look forward to and are still a real shot at the 2025 flag.... and GO CATS !!!

PS - By all reports the Geelong medical team think they've finally got on top of Jack Martin's injury woes and he still may remain a wild card for us come finals because he has unquestionable X factor and would be extremely handy to our forward line.... here's hoping anyway 🙏🙏🙏👍

Fair post.
I wish I had your optimism.
Still feel like we blew a golden opportunity last season.

This year we are worse off. We have beaten Collingwood, Adelaide & Hawthorn. Three potential finalists.
And we have also lost to GWS, Carlton & Brisbane. Again, Three potential finalists.

Huge fortnight coming up. Go 2-0 and today's loss is all but forgotten. 1-1 and it does set us up well in the second half.
Lose both, top four is virtually out of the question.

played out of position at the moment with the injuries. He isnt ready to be a key defender yet.
looks much better when he has the rest of the backline in supporting him and Henry letting him play as
a 3rd interceptor rather than being stuck on a key forward.

The easiest of all was Danger, did a great job to get the intercept but he should have put the jets on and ran into an open goal instead of the pass being at the heels. That should have been a certain goal and game would have been well and truly over. But yeah, between those three opportunities we well and truly stuffed things up and handed GWS a win. It's a game we should have won but there's still much to look forward too.
9 out of 10 times he runs in and has that shot. Now he might only execute the skill 50-60% of the time but that was better than the dink chip 10m to a stumbling player.

Mannagh was the opposite. From 55m under pressure you hit it up to 15m out.

Oh well. Skills win matches. GWS made better decisions in their forward half.

Absolutely appalling. I am no longer defending the guy.
I knew he's a long way off it but I figured he would help us with 10-15 touches today but he gave us 2 disposals. Need to give Stevens a run now.
Today was the day I've moved from worried but hope he comes good to the he's a bust camp.

When you get a guy inside the top 10 and the excuses are he's small and needs 3 years to bulk up just so we can see if he'll make it... Then that's a top 10 pick bust.

That's someone you take after 40 and see if they're a slow burn.

One of the most frustrating losses to be at. Heart rate at 135 by the end. Hearing Krock talk about some of the stats post game on the drive home gave some perspective. A game we ought to have won and actually did a lot right in. No shame in losing to GWS but we do have ourselves to blame for that one

We’ve beaten Pies & Hawks this year already and strangely enough I’d back us against either of them in finals, problem is we lose to many games like tonight against teams we should beat, whereas pies and hawks will bank those as wins.

Just so frustrating.
Put us in the bracket of finals that'll play Pies or Hawks and you'd be quietly confident.
Giants and Blues and you'd contemplate not even buying a ticket as we'd be straight out.

Port will be gunning for us too. It's going to be their grand final as it was for Carlton a couple weeks ago.
Must win because I think the Dogs are ready to pounce. Lose three in a row is likely.
It'll be one big ****wits party in Adelaide next weekend as they cheer on a thug threatening opponents as if he's a persecuted martyr. Will be an utterly feral crowd.
